Vampire Weekend live at Down the Rabbit Hole 2019 playing Bob Dylan's Jokerman. No copyright infringement intended. All rights reserved to original owner.
I don’t really know anything about Vampire Weekend and had never actually heard a single note until 10 minutes and some change prior to typing this comment. I admittedly don’t know much more now, but I am thoroughly impressed by what little I do know. It’s top shelf classy move to cover Dylan, but it’s exponentially more so when you do it with a tremendous depth of respect for the source material and an unmistakably genuine display of adoration for said material. What more do I need to know? Musicians who realize that there is no such thing as “mastery” in the craft, only echelons of proficiency and endless possibilities for creative endeavor, exploration and expression are the ones I immediately gravitate toward. Lastly, of all the Dylan songs, to choose Jokerman really says something (that something is different for everyone I’m sure, but Dylan fans often place Jokerman near or at the top of their lists of Bob’s masterpieces). I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment that Jokerman is a masterpiece, I would be a fool to think otherwise! There are single lines that make other artists’ entire catalogues look as if they were scribbled in crayon on brightly colored construction paper. The thing that gets me is they keep rolling, one after another and I’ll be damned if every last one hits like an unseen pint glass in the ear hole. I know I’m rambling and I apologize. Fucking A though, new fan here me thinks.
Covers of Jokerman live or die based on capturing the RHYTHM of DYLAN lyrics. The ability to capture that rhythm, in turn, depends on fantastic rhythmic-backing (strumming, bass, drums, et. al). On the record we have Sly & Robbie (Jamaican master drum/bass duo). Bravo! Ezra’s done a commendable. Good job.
@@FlaschDJyour comment makes the most sense! This song in particular is so rhythmically specific, that a certain cadence needs to be achieved in order to make it work as a cover. VW really gets the track and they make it their own in such a remarkable way. I'm going absolutely nuts waiting for the new album haha
holy shit ,literally this came right out of left field,no pun intended, the best cover in 30 yrs of loving this amazing song....kudos to these guys ...canada just took notice
Did not know a thing about this band. Truly loved it right up until the free-form-psychedelic-jazz bit. But still great cover of a superb song. In these lyrics you can see why Dylan won the Nobel prize in literature.
I like this better than the original. Cant say why particularly. Rythm is better perhaps. I saw them in miami and this cover was one of my favorite songs performed.
It's funny, I've been listening to lots of Bob and Beatles recently as my daughter is really getting into that period of music. I've tried listening to a lot of beatles covers and hate nearly all of them (I don't mind Bowie's Across the Universe but that's basically it). With Dylan there are so many good covers I can barely keep count. In some cases (obviously Hendrix's All along the watchtower but also The Byrds' version of my back pages which totally rules) they are actually better than the originals. I wonder why that is... anyway, this is another one to add to the list, especially love the motorik/krautrock style instrumental break in the middle!
@@olinmyhre i often dont like what bob is doing live to his own songs but the Album Version of jokerman is great. The vampire Version not so much. 🤷♂️ezra has a great voice. But the style of the Band and his voice just dont suite the Song. Tried to listen to it one more time. Had to stop.☹️

Most boring comment *ever* !!!

Fabulous cover. This is a hard song to sing and he nailed it. That band is tight.
good ear friend....
Totally!
Spark one up and enjoy this nearly perfect cover of 80s Dylan
very impressed by ezra’s lyric recall lol
It’s an all-timer track. If you know it, it’s part of your soul.
He’s Bob head
I love Ezra, but I'm guessing he uses a teleprompter here.

Wow, Ezra's vocals never fail to grab me.
Can’t believe they actually did this
An epic rendition.👍
A great cover of an almighty song
I wanna see Wilco cover this cover!
Love this. Caetano Veloso does a great version too.
a versão de Caetano é linda também!
This is impressive, wow. They’re great musicians

What a great cover and homage to the source material! My Dylan mentor who left us way too early would have appreciated this!

Brilliant song.By numbers cover.

Given that Dylan is always reworking his songs I think he’d love this.
His version on Letterman is dire.
Couldn't disagree more about the letterman version, as I find it to be sublime.
good job boys

keeping one step ahead of the persecutor within
I love Vampire weekend and this is good but far of the amazing cover by Caetano Veloso and of course from Dylan’s original one
Bob would aprove
I agree.
Great

Well done guys🤔

Bach?
I think it’s a riff from flower moon.
que bestia
I bet half the audience doesn’t know this song. Good cover tho
Only half?
@@alejandronunez7014 knew the song! didn't know Vampire Weekend, but I like this!!!!!!
Maybe 85%.
I would guess 95 percent of the audience didn't know this song.
Netherlands, so 50% is a good guess
I feel like this song is better sang weirdly like the original. This seemed too soft. VW is one of my favourite bands.
It’s a nice cover. They didn’t bring much new to the table. Pretty straight forward. Great song to cover though.
A soft version far from Caetano’s amazing cover but this song always impress me anyway
Better live version than when Dylan does it!
I agree. Dylan could never pull this off live
They all want to be Bob. Don't ever forget who the master is 😁
You have got to be kidding...check out this live performance ua-cam.com/video/nP85Uc6H79U/v-deo.html

disagree - it's about the hypocrisy that follows him
Somebody teach this dude the chords because he spends the entirety of the song holding the guitar like a stooge
