What causes the engine to stall after changing a belt on a brand new RZR 1000? only while throwing it in gear it cranks up fine in neutral and idles but soon as you pull it in gear it stalls
Clayton, what did you end up doing to correct your ATV Clutch issue? I'm having this issue with my 2018 Sportsman 850 SP. I've replaced my primary clutch with a Mother Cluther clutch for my machine, but this hasn't corrected the problem that doesn't allow me to shift gears while the engine is running and slight creeping while at idle and in gear.
@mhumke8995 Sorry, it's been too long. I don't remember the exact issue. Seems to me, if I pulled on the belt (while engine off) one of the clutches would give allowing the belt to not make contact. Thus, not spin. Maybe a cleaning was all that was needed? Just don't remember.
I have a question on my 4 seater Polaris 900 , I believe my son drove it on low gear on high speeds and well the belt was making noise so I replaced it but now the new one looks like it’s smoking or burning inside, I heard of breaking it in so I started with 10 miles per hour, is the the smoking burning normal when breaking in or do I need to inspect my clutch?
Did you clean and inspect the sheaves before replacing the belt? Smoking/burning isn't normal, I would definitely go through some of the inspections in this video and find out if something is causing the belt to slip. The exception to this is you might be able to smell the belt a little during break in, but definitely shouldn't smoke. It really depends on how well the clutches were cleaned when replacing the belt and the condition of the clutches. Also check the air inlets and outlets for debris. -Charles
Nice video. Very informative. I spray mine out at least once a year with air to get the dust out. Mostly Moab riding. I asked someone when I first got my rzr about lube but was told that was bad because it attracts dust more in the clutch. How about dry spray lube that has PTEE in it. I've used it and my clutch and belt still look good from a 2012 rzr900xp. Any thoughts on this or any other recommendations?
I have a 2004 sportsman 600 when I try to come to a stop it screams and won't allow me to take it out of gear .but when I turn it of I can take it out of gear what could be my problem
I have a 1997 Polaris Xplorer 500. It no longer will go in forward or reverse. Both the primary and secondary clutches appear to be opening and closing as the engine RPM is increased or decreased. The question I have is, with the ATV shut off, should there be resistance on the secondary clutch when I turn it by hand? It does not make a difference whichever position I have the shifting lever in. I am new to ATV repair but feel that the shaft on the secondary clutch should be engaged with the drive on the transmission. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I have a 1985 Honda 350fl odyssey. When i drive it it wants to click. I don’t know what it is that’s clicking. It seems to be something in the transmission. I can’t figure it out. Any tips would be very appreciated.
Found your video looking for information on the polaris sportsman 455 desiel. Any idears why the gear selector would be getting very stiff and struggling to select both hi forward and reverse?
It’s the secondary clutch! It’s eather bad or out of alignment! Check your grooves where the belt sits sometimes it gets chipped and make everything bad! Check your motor mounts but before you buy a new clutch buy a new gear shifter to see if that’s the problem!
Question: You're saying to stay in low gear between 7-10 MPH, but the RZR manual says to use low for speeds under 35 MPH. Why do you recommend the 7-10 MPH? Thank you.
It’d be awesome is someone made a video on how to align these clutches... I got a sportsman 1000 that’s really hard to shift when running, belt seems to be riding the inside of the primary and there’s a gap on the outside of the primary but the secondary sits on splines so I can’t just add a washer,,,, any help would be appreciated
@Alfred Farrell there is a very detailed write up on aligning sportsman XP clutches on Polaris ATV Forum. It discusses a Sportsman XP550 but the procedure will be the same for yours. Hard shifting can also be caused by a one way bearing going bad or a primary clutch not moving freely or fully retracting.

While inspecting the sheeves, just how bad do the scratches have to be? While removing the old shreaded belt I accidently made some small scrathes. Will this hurt the new belt? I would hate to have to replace it. Obviously. Thx in advance

Hello, I have a polaris RZR XP 1000 (2014), I'm having problems heating this CVT when I use it severely for more than half an hour, the belt gets too hot and I realized that it loses its useful life ... the problem also occurs when I walk in the range of 30km without stopping, in the range of 90 to 100km / h, it also heats up the belt a lot! Would you have any option to change the air more to cool the CVT? I've already researched the internet, but I didn't find any option for this problem ... I thought about adding a fan cooler, only stronger, to force the CVT air circulation

Otherwise u gotta pick ur own spring and all that and if ur like most of us u dont know what kit to choose. It helps tremendously man its like riding a different machine after u install the kit. top speed changes, it engages as soon as u hit throttle and it doesnt generate any heat after u install the kit. its crazy. better fuel economy too.
question, I noticed mine as well as my friends Sportsman while taking off fwd or reverse, you hear a loud clunk. Its not coming from the engine. Sounds clutchy or drivetrainish. Does this sound familiar? Its annoying as hell. BTW, we both have new machines. Def no wear and tear condition. My buddies is much louder than mine.
The "clunk" you hear is the roller spider assembly in the secondary clutch when it is going from the forward side of the helix to the reverse notch and this sound is normal on the TEAM Tied clutch. OEM this notch is quite large which is a cause for a very aggressive enginge braking (EBS) engagement. Most aftermarket go with a less aggressive notch that has a smoother transition into engine braking and will reduce the "clunk" sound.

Graphite dust, i use it in my ar when I'm gonna be in dusty or sandy conditions. Same with troops deployed overseas.
