"25 or 6 to 4", from the amazing concert at Tanglewood in Lennox, MA, July 21, 1970. Terry's quintessential guitar solo captured for the generations to come.
I'm 65 , I'll be 66 in December and I'm a guitar player and I've talk about Terry Kath being the most underrated guitar player of all time !!! Still listening to him today. Shouting out from Tulsa Oklahoma !!!
Terry’s talent transcends what the highest musical ability looks like. He rarely looks down at his instrument while hitting every note with blazing precision. I am convinced that no matter how hard you work, or how much practice, very few musicians on earth will ever come close to this level of expertise, and do it with soul. This is a God given talent on display. There is no other explanation.
Rolling Stones Magazine put out there usual top 250 guitars players of all time. No Terry Kath, No Alex Lifesone. lol Come to think about it, I am not even sure they had Stevie in there list, but I was drunk while listening to it.,
@@annawarner1078 Terry was playing with a gun, a 9mm semi-auto pistol, at a party. Somebody warned him to be careful with the gun, and he ejected the magazine, pointed the gun at his head, and pulled the trigger. Unfortunately, as any one with any knowledge of guns will tell you, if a semi-auto has a round in the chamber, it can fire even with the magazine ejected. This gun had a round in the chamber, and Terry died instantly, only about a week before his 32nd birthday. A senseless, needless, tragic death, just as an overdose would have been. The thing is, I've read that he enjoyed target shooting, so one might think he would have followed the first, common-sense rule of gun safety: Every gun is loaded, always, and should be treated that way. However, as is painfully clear, intoxicants and guns are a very, very bad mix.
One of the greatest ever... Terry Kath...! When Jimi says he's a better guitarist than I am, that will get your attention....! Made me proud to be from Chicago and lived through this great era....... Great band..

They absolutely were. And these guys were talented musicians. Terry was just on fire during this entire show. It's a good thing this song ended when it did, as Danny Seraphine's arms had to be ready to fall off. I've probably watched this clip a hundred times.

The fact that his vocals are a 12 out of 10 and his guitar playing is a 13 out of 10 is so overpowered. This guy is the equivalent of like 5 people in one. Terry Kath was a real one.

The greatest solo of all time, and its never recognized in top 10, 20 or even 50 solos. What a shame but then again, hearing it and seeing it are two different things.

The baddest man ever to rock a strat. Terry was a monster playing the telecaster in his later years and by far was better than anyone else when he was in his pre prime years. Anyone who is a fan of Terry Kath knows and only imagines what he could have been
This is one of my favorite Chicago songs but not for the reason most people like it. Terry Kath is completely awesome in this but if it weren’t for the vocals in this it would have only been half a hit song. Peters vocals and his bass are imo what makes this one of Chicago’s and Robert Lamms masterpieces. Listen with headphones and see for yourself that Peter Cetera was one of the best bass players in rock music and he never gets the recognition he deserves for that and also his amazing vocals.
When watching the original Chicago, I notice how in tune and moving along everyone is except p cetera, he is stiff and doesnt blend, looks like he would break in half....just doesnt fit, imo
Chicago Fan I dunno. I wouldn’t be so dismissive, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Shit, my opinion is as valid as either of yours and frankly I don’t particularly like Chicago. 99% of it, to be honest, unlistenable lowest common denominator, capital S Soft Rock (in every bad sense possible). However, Chicago Transit Authority SMOKES. Peter Cetera represents everything I hate about a certain sound that permeated music for a while. Vapid. Insipid. Shallow enough to play to a sickeningly cut-out-of-plastic sappy, “radio friendly” music for people who grew up too fast and/are afraid of the real thing. Take out the heart and the dangerous parts and... you’ve got Chicago. But Terry Kath was a shit hot fucking guitarist. His wild and fiery playing on the (very) early Chicago records (especially CTA) is positively inspiring. The dissonant, atonal manipulated feedback of “Freeform Guitar” or his lead playing on “I’m a Man”, where his guitar is always veering dangerously close to becoming unmanageably out of control, but creates an absolutely thrilling, hold on to your seat excitement that stands in stark contrast to me to Peter Cetera leading the band through some of the most “safe” and boring adult contemporary music ever created. Nah. Fuck that. The Chicago I Love is all about Terry Kath playing like a bullet train off the rails. On fire. Full of Tyrannosaurus Rex’s.
