Dalton, this is the one that I was talking about. I learned a lot and it was heartwarming to see her recover that famous guitar with the stickers all over it
This is one of my favorite Chicago songs but not for the reason most people like it. Terry Kath is completely awesome in this but if it weren’t for the vocals in this it would have only been half a hit song. Peters vocals and his bass are imo what makes this one of Chicago’s and Robert Lamms masterpieces. Listen with headphones and see for yourself that Peter Cetera was one of the best bass players in rock music and he never gets the recognition he deserves for that and also his amazing vocals.
When watching the original Chicago, I notice how in tune and moving along everyone is except p cetera, he is stiff and doesnt blend, looks like he would break in half....just doesnt fit, imo
Chicago Fan I dunno. I wouldn’t be so dismissive, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Shit, my opinion is as valid as either of yours and frankly I don’t particularly like Chicago. 99% of it, to be honest, unlistenable lowest common denominator, capital S Soft Rock (in every bad sense possible). However, Chicago Transit Authority SMOKES. Peter Cetera represents everything I hate about a certain sound that permeated music for a while. Vapid. Insipid. Shallow enough to play to a sickeningly cut-out-of-plastic sappy, “radio friendly” music for people who grew up too fast and/are afraid of the real thing. Take out the heart and the dangerous parts and... you’ve got Chicago. But Terry Kath was a shit hot fucking guitarist. His wild and fiery playing on the (very) early Chicago records (especially CTA) is positively inspiring. The dissonant, atonal manipulated feedback of “Freeform Guitar” or his lead playing on “I’m a Man”, where his guitar is always veering dangerously close to becoming unmanageably out of control, but creates an absolutely thrilling, hold on to your seat excitement that stands in stark contrast to me to Peter Cetera leading the band through some of the most “safe” and boring adult contemporary music ever created. Nah. Fuck that. The Chicago I Love is all about Terry Kath playing like a bullet train off the rails. On fire. Full of Tyrannosaurus Rex’s.
Jimi Hendrix saw Kath and said he was the greatest guitar player he had ever seen including Hendrix himself. And every time they take a poll of the top 100 he isnt even mentioned including many who have passed away over the years. Completely ignored, why? If they arent ignoring him on purpose then they are incompetent.
First time I saw this, I was in tears also. I had never saw a man and guitar become as one. Everytime it comes up on my phone I stop whatever I'm doing and listen and watch probably the greatest guitar player ever to hold one. PURE MAGIC. GOD BLESS TERRY.
AbsofrigginLUTEly!! I was given the C2 album as a 6th birthday gift by my cousin, who totally "got" me (she'd given me CTA for my 5th bday!). Terry rocked my entire fucking world at six years old! I started three years of piano just as 1969 began, to get some basis of theory, and got my first Epi three years later. Been jammin' ever since, and all thanks to Terry's genius and wizardry!! RIP, Terry!
My 31year old daughter loves classic rock. When she read the story of Terry's death she was just stunned. She was really moved with how tragic it was, and what a talented man he was. I agree totally. RIP Terry. You're in rock n roll heaven with a hell of a band now. Miss you! 😢🎸🕯💔

Entire band is zoned in
When watching the original Chicago, I notice how in tune and moving along everyone is except p cetera, he is stiff and doesnt blend, looks like he would break in half....just doesnt fit, imo
MARY LINCOLN you don’t see to be observant. He just wasn’t spastic like Terry or even Jimmy.
Terry was the opposite of spastic. He felt the music through his body..was one with it.
Holy crap, I’ve heard this song hundreds of times but not live and not on video! This is now one of my favorite guitar solos of all time lov it
The saddest loss in rock history! Rock on Terry wherever you may be-Jimi thought you were amazing (or words to that effect).
Your Jimi Hendrix died at 27, also Jim Morrison, and Kurt Cobain, and more recently Amy Winehouse.
Mad-king-of-fools Pariah-of-the-universe Thank you very much for the info. Interesting
He may have said that Billy Gibbons was his favorite player, but he truly loved Terry Kath
His death was beyond senseless!
The band were never the same after and then David foster ruined them
I return to this video all the time. I've never seen anyone play a guitar that well. The inventor of Fender would be saying, "my guitar can do that?"
Wow. I'm 66 and still seeing new stuff from him. Wow. Just WOW.
Terry and Jimi are jamming together in heaven forever
Hendrix, said after hearing Kath play in a club "he is the greatest guitar player"!
I agree with some of the Articles what Jimmy Hendrix said about him. Amazing!
Hendrix....dubbed him...better than himself!
IHMO, sorry Jimi, it's not even close.
A True Solo by Terry. He knew the band was behind him. Didn't need to look back! ..........
Come on when Jimi Hendrix names you guitarist of this Universe well, I rest my case! R.I.P. Always missed, never forgotten
Holy dogshit! I had no idea Terry Kath was so talented. My god, that solo is unbelievable. He doesn’t even look at his guitar. Wow!!!!
Wow ! He vibrates with every note. I really wish some of our young bloods would check this out. Truly an amazing talent. Peace
Wish fulfilled. This dude is incredible
too busy playing video games .. music is different after the internet came into play
No shit, right? Learn from a virtual genius!!!
Afrikaners flew the coup. Ons se dat julle niks kan doen nie
zulu's cant save the day
I literally cried tears of joy to this song
Cry sweet tears of joy
Touch the sky
First time I saw this, I was in tears also. I had never saw a man and guitar become as one. Everytime it comes up on my phone I stop whatever I'm doing and listen and watch probably the greatest guitar player ever to hold one. PURE MAGIC. GOD BLESS TERRY.
Thats why he is the guitarhero of all times. Terry we love you.
Terry is the reason I picked up a guitar!
Let's hear something, sometime!!! He is AWESOMETASTIC!!! Keep on trucking!!!
me too..
Me too. My dad had this album on reel to reel, this song made me want to play.
Miss you! 😢🎸🕯💔
The best of the best
I love how his band mates react when Terry starts in with his solo. You can see he blew them away too. Rock n Roll will never die. 💪🛐🩰🦢
On that Tour they played at Yale Bowl. I will never forget that concert, they were ALL on fire that night. We all thought our wonderful type of music would never end !
Ya know...I've heard the quote for years ...today I understand it.
When asked who he thought was the best guitarist Jimi said "Terry Kath is the best guitarist in the universe."
🌹🌹🌹
It's amazing that Jimi would praise another guitarist.
No matter how many times I watch Terry’s guitar riffs, I can never get enough ❤️
Agee,I have to watch this video every once in a while, just to remind me that we are mere mortals to this god of his instrument. Amazing is a understatement
It's cool to see his bandmates stare in awe when he's up there working. Greatness knows greatness.
Wow. That solo actually brought tears to my eyes. What an amazing guitarist. 👏
Terry at it´s best. What an energy - unbelivable
Thank you Jimi
I have never seen anything like this in my life! Terry Kath is blowing up that guitar! Damn. I've watched this a million times and it BLOWS me away every time. We miss you so much Terry. 💙💙💙
I just had a custom-made T shirt made. It says, " I may be old but at least I got to see Terry Kath."
My laptop melted just as Kath started his solo.
As of right now, I'm 1 minute in and am on my fourth computer because this song is pure fucking fire!
One of the greatest ever. Guitarest and Singer. RIP
The baddest man ever to rock a strat. Terry was a monster playing the telecaster in his later years and by far was better than anyone else when he was in his pre prime years. Anyone who is a fan of Terry Kath knows and only imagines what he could have been
yeah its kinda of sad the best ones left early...Jimi Zappa and Terry
Terry Kath was a f#!@ing beast on guitar!!
Back when bands were raw. No extravagant light shows or outlandish costumes, just great live music. Love the extended lead in whilst drummer got his kit sorted. Real musos. 😀👍🏻
I'm 74 listen to them in the 70s did not realize how good Terry was
Terry was like Tornado...what a beast! Man, that guy could bring it!
This man was one of Hendrix’s biggest influences, no secret why. Truly jaw dropping stuff
The first guitar shredder? 53 fucking years ago!
Why doesn't anyone respond with a yes or no. Am I right or wrong?
No reason, but I stand by my statement, Kath was the first shredder ever, until someone can prove it wrong. RIP Kath
He was recognized by Hendrix and that is enough.
Holy fuck that man can play guitarrrrr like no other bless that man's soul !
I just love the horns on this tune! The whole thing hangs together amazingly....guitar, vocals, bass, drums, horn section and keys...A unique rock arrangement in the masterclass.
I’m here after watching “We Have A Ghost.” So cool that Terry Kath is mentioned in the movie!
Is that a movie or a series on netflix? i would like to check it out.
Thanks
Best guitar solo ever!
One of best guitar solos ever
I absolutely agree I've lost count of the number of times I've watched it
Kath and Cetera harmonies are the best along with Kath's #1 guitar playing of all time. KATH IS BETTER THAN ANYONE.
