They did get the country list from the IOC. That's why territories that aren't countries (for example Samoa or HK) are there

Crackpot theory: the mr beast team decided to randomly play to both sides of the political spectrum because they decided that the worst case scenario is actually the internet pinning a political stance onto them. By playing to both sides it only creates confusion and memes and they get to make this video while ironically having the least political result
Make it so full of errors that nobody can take it seriously in the first place. And if nobody can take it seriously at all; no political statement on the current geopolitical state of affairs can be extrapolated easily without strenuous effort and excessive bullshit.

The two Tunisia's thing goes deeper, cause there's a state only recognised by Turkey which is in northern Cyprus and has a very similar flag to Tunisia. But also it's not exactly the same.
So it's very unclear whether Mr Beast has joined Erdawan in recognising the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus or if he's simply disbanded Cyprus and given it to Tunisia.
Much to consider.

And while much of the mr beast hate on twitter is crazy overblown (what's new), I would totally understand if like a Afghan person, for example, would be pretty pissed off by using the Taliban flag, or any of the other bonkers decisions.

I got called by the Mr. Beast team about being in this video because I was born in Taiwan. They didn’t give me many details but I didn’t get far in the process before they stopped contacting me. I assumed it was because I was a white guy and not Taiwanese which makes sense, but then they didn’t even include Taiwan at all 😂

For those wondering: the Tunisia flag Kind of looks like an inverted version of the flag of Northern Cyprus, which would explain why its placed on Cyprus

Because no matter what you believe it isn’t a country it is a state, as someone who study’s history (especially in middle eastern affairs) most of the media and population is uneducated on the topic and believe it is a Black and White discussion with one side being evil and one being great which is untrue . Most Israeli attacks you see on the news are being done defensively and they do tend to be overblown (though the IDF does overly exert force at times) but if you’ve ever gone to Israel there are bomb strikes every day so action must be taken. Also if it’s people thinking that the land belongs to Palestinians, Jews lived there 3000 years ago which is before almost anyone else and until they were kicked out by the Roman’s.

There is 500 milion square kilometres of land mass, with interesting countries and borders all over the place, and caring whether someone knows the states is caring about 2% of that whole land mass (and the US is probably the least interesting part of it too, the state names really don't matter to anyone outside the US). Im not trying to diminish people's interest in geopolitics but the point of the video is precisely showing that's not what it is about either. Most of the people who get upset about these flags aren't actually being affected by that. The 50 states thing isnt just a memory thing, it's about knowing the self before looking outward, knowing to walk before you run, and whatever other idiom. These people complaining on twitter all went to school, you learned things, you learned how to learn things, and yet you're creating problems online over issues that dont even concern you. The only reason this even is a problem at all is because it's Mr Beast therefore there are millions of eyes veered at the situation

ironically the map used to show the British Empire in 1921 at 9:20 is wrong :P It's missing modern day Kenya, Iraq, Palestine, Israel, Jordan, Bhutan, a part of modern day India called Sikkim, parts of various African countries, and part of Papa New Guinea and nearby islands. You seemed to include a pre-ww1 map, as most of the places I've named were transferred from either Germany or the Ottoman Empire after they surrendered.

So of course when the biggest channel in the world goes about bringing it up lazily or straight up ignorantly, people are going to discuss it. @@J-roll1 Look at Ukraine/Russia, look at north/south Korea, look at Isreal/Palestine, look at the Balkins, etc. There’s a whole lot of war and tension going around the world for many reasons, but usually because or extremely exaggerated by border disputes. To resolve or prevent such conflicts, international understanding of what the accepted borders are plays a huge part. That understanding is shifted by what the common person thinks, ands that opinion can in turned be shifted by how people we talk to and the media we consume handle the topic.
I hope you then can see how a UA-cam channel with a reach of countless of millions of people talking about such topics a certain way can be damaging, if done lazily, intentionally provoking, or just based on ignorance.
Influencers have influence (who would have guessed) and therefore a responsibility on how they approach their content.
Edit: It’s basically the same concept as how sexuality, race, religion, culture can be talked about or depicted in problematic ways.

Either Mr. Beast had a separate competitor from Svalbard that lost the first challenge, or he thought a different country than Norway owns it... and I think it is the latter since he didn't put a flag on it, and the same happened to Greenland, and iirc, Denmark didn't fail the first challenge.
Also, later on, Mr. Beast put the Norwegian flag on Sweden... (I have heard people joke about Norway being the capital of Sweden, but I have never heard Sweden being the capital of Norway)
Whoever did the map graphics needs to take a few more looks at a map, and learn some geography.
Also, personally I dislike how he skipped over a lot of people/countries in the video and only showed a small portion of the contestants.

This entire controversy feels like a nothing burger. I don’t know why people are making so much drama from it. I don’t think MrBeast did anything wrong on purpose or had some malicious agenda.
Not every UA-camr wants to be involved in politics and it feels like people are looking very hard to find things to get mad about.
I’m sure MrBeast had his editors pull up the first map on Google and use it for the video like any normal person would and now people are blasting him for it. This feels more apparent since some of the flags are wrong. They may have just gone to Google images to find the first flag image and didn’t think much about it.

One of the contestants claimed that there weren't people from ALL countries, but only around 160-170. They also counted some teritories that are not recognised as countries by UN. I think that doing this right matters, because by being ignorant you say that this issue is not important, even though border disputes have caused many wars.
Umm actually the map you showed of the British empire at it's height is wrong. We actually committed more war crimes in Africa and joined up the territories.
I would fix it this way, Taiwan being Chinese Taipei as in sports, and then Hongkong - China, + Macao - China, and then Palestine would be solved by saying it’s Palestinian Teritory, and kosovo… Albania

honestly I think the editing in this video had too many mistakes to be passable. In many parts, areas that should not be eliminated are red (greenland being red when denmark is still in, svalbard being red when norway is still in) like come on at least make it accurate

Usually when these kinds of Dramas happen they are really stupid like when Mr Beast gave people eye surgery and people were offended (fucking stupid) this one is a bit different. I really don´t think it was done with bad intentions but basically because as a typical westerner and american in particular he probably doesn´t know geopolitcs and foreign cultures but in some countries these issues about borders and so on are really important. China for example does extreme sanctions towards countries that even hint at recognizing Taiwan and the Israeli / Palestine conflict is a very incindiary topic to name just 2. In doing such a video there was always going to be massive drama no matter the route they take and I find it hard to tell people in this particular case that their anger at ignorance is unjustified since depending on the individuals belief these things matter to a degree westerners can only very hardly emphasize to
I stopped watching the video after I heard the guy from Brazil speak english without any accent at all. Which lead me to believe the entire thing was fake. And by watching this, neither does the person representing Indonesia. Which makes the statement about flying all the people in to compete a lie.

About mr beast maps: In the video in which they compared different vacations "$1 vs $250000 vacation", at some point they show a map where an animated plane is flying from paris to switzerland or something like that.
Thing is: the animated plane on the map didn't go anywhere near switzerland, it landed in the balkans instead.
