Bachmann products are right up there with brass for details. When I was into trains was in the 70s -80s. Then life took over 2 kids ,dog and a cat. My job turned into 12 hours days forever. I had no time to unwind. Now Im retired, with a income also single and want very much to get back into trains. This time all good trains, days of the dollar boxcar kits are done. Ever heard of atomic trains going to the sub base first one ever a guy threw himself in front of the trains and lost both legs. The heaviest rail cars ever made Armour plate all sides cover over 8 tons. Lots of things protect these cars including satillites. When I was into trains athern, proto, bachmann, only brass had the details. Like tyco is now toys or toy like. Bachmann a complete turn around from the quality they were. Im going for smoothest running trains I can do. Bachmans EZ App is really cool thing. Run whole layout from your phone or bluetooth device. Even controls up to 60 trains. This is simply amazing to me sounds in trains what a concept. How do you stay into trains as a hobby there isnt any hobby stores anymore. I dont have one within 40 miles of my house.
Please note that you can no longer purchase the sound module item#404956 for the Bachmann Climax logging steam engine. I was finally able to get in touch by E-Mail with the actual manufacture of the plug and play sound system and they informed me that Bachmann owns exclusive manufacturing rites to item#404956. They told me that Bachmann didn't manufacture enough of the sound systems to cover the amount of the Climax train engines they were producing!! Yet Bachmann still advertises through all their adds that the sound system is still available, "BAD BUSINESS PRACTICE"!!!! I purchased mine just a couple of months back from Train World and I love the detail the engine has. However, had I known that you could no longer purchase the sound system I wouldn't have made the purchase. I do like your Utube chanel very much though and love the detailed information that you provide. Thanks & God bless, Dan Hervey.
Hello James. I have a suggestion for your videos to make them a little more interesting in my eyes and I'm sure many more. This is specially talking about your reviews. I'm not sure if you have addressed this before, but I would much rather watch your reviews if they had some scenes of the train running. When I say running, I'm talking about the train just running along the track at a decent speed, doesn't have to be flying, but just not a crawl like you do sometimes, or the back and forth. One UA-camr that does this brilliantly is InterCity82. This is just my two cents about how to improve your reviews to make them more enjoyable. If you don't want to listen, no problem. Just thought I'd point this out and let you decide if you like the suggestion or not. Thanks.
first train I ever built/assembled was one of these tank trains. It was pewter boiler drilled and tapped your own hole and upgrade the drive wheels. The little train that could hauled steep hillsides here. Shays and several others like that 3 tucks articulated. Thats a fun model make a logging camp and 2-3 trains of logs up and down the mountains.
Nice little engine. I'm starting to build a new logging layout. I already have 80 ton shay which also very unique but has problems with cheep plastic gears. I have to upgrade them to metal. I don't know for sure but I will bet you the same problem will happen with this one. I prefer the Blackstone models that have all metal gears but are a bit more pricey. Thanks
It would be great if someone made an n-scale climax! Yeah it would probably cost a lot since the build might be a little (ok a lot) more difficult to assemble
alexander1485 That's probably why he let the Steam Release keep going. He was probably answering his text or notification. Yet I still don't know why he played it again...
@@joshualeboeuf2926 - I think the Northern Nevada Railroad Museum still has " throttle time ", where you can operate steam & diesel locomotives. Sometimes excursion trains will offer a " cab ride " to a rider for an extra fee.
+jlwii2000 Be careful about pushing that engine around on the track. You can easily strip the gears doing that because they are so small. I have had it happen on both shays and climax's from Bachmann. Don't learn the hard way. When moving it take the time to pick it up and not to slide it.
No Bachmann China owned makes them look good ,but the drive mechanism is just like any other China's imitation of real quality Junk. You can get USA gears for them that will outlast the loco. Why did not Bachmann make them that way. Not worth 100 dollars without sound for a paper weight when the gears split and strip! Junk Buyer beware they look good ,but they are fools gold!
Didn't know this existed! Thanks for this review. I gotta get one.

Larry Monske I can relate to your hobby shop situation, I typically buy newer stuff at train shows or online
You could try ordering from Walther's. Walther's still makes the big catalogs, but they also have an on-line catalog.
I swear, I keep hearing that phone vibrate and I keep looking at mine! Damn you! Kidding, another great review as always.
Terrific sound on the little gem! I enjoy the delicacy of these little steam engines!
Thank you for taking the time for this excellent review.
James, The PFM Climax had the operating piston rod-a real break through in the late 50s/ early 60s.Great review of a unique locomotive.
Very nice loco. Always liked the logging and mining steamers.

Can you please do a review on the Bachmann 0-6-0 T Porter saddle tank?

+jlwii2000 Does your #844 run on 18" curves? I'm looking at buying one but only have 18" and 22" curves on my layout

What happened to the runby's at the end?
James , simply SWEET : )
Will this locomotive work with analoug operation?
Could you find me the module sound for it. Thanks
is he getting a lot of text messages? cause i hear buzzing

Wonderful,but how many dolares?
That train reminds me of Ferdinand from Thomas and friends.
I think that bag of "real coal" is supposed to be a bag of powder that keeps moisture out of the box.
I loved that train!
+Norfolk Southern Fan train engine*
+alexander1485 locomotive
the people who rode this train shakely walked off at the station while smoking.
I believe that haha. Sounds fun though. I'd still love to ride a steam loco at least once in my life

I just picked one up, It's so small I feel it's out of scale with the rest of my locomotives.
I love model trains
