After all these years, this video still makes me cry. This song is an example of country telling a story that will hit you hard and stay with you. The last line always gives me chills, how He was there with her when her mom and dad died.
Until the other day I hadn’t heard this song since before I was a wife and mom. It hit me like a freight train when I re-listened to it and I can’t seem to shake it. This was both of my parents life, to a degree, and I’m so thankful that they made a conscious effect to make a change so that my siblings and I didn’t live this way. And I can’t even fathom inflicting this on my children. My heart goes out to these babies. 💔
This is a bittersweet song from John Michael Montgomery, and I like it alot, but he's also got some happier songs you should check out - Life's A Dance, Sold, I Swear, just to name a few. He's a great guy, too. I was lucky enough to meet him in Nashville, Tennessee, back in the summer of 1991 or 1993, when Life's A Dance first came out.
John Michael Montgomery was a hit-maker in the 90s and he has a lot of great songs! My favorites of his are No Man’s Land, Friends, Be My Baby Tonight, I Swear, Life’s a Dance, I Can Love You Like That, How Was I To Know, Rope the Moon, The Little Girl, Hold On To Me, I Love The Way You Love Me, If You’ve Got Love, Long As I Live, and Oh How She Shines.
Both of you are good people. Taking in lonely or lost children and giving them love, I admire very much. I never heard this song, but it grabbed my heart.
What a song and reaction. The fact that you two brought foster kids in your home and showed them the love of parents is something special, to share the love with those kids that you didnt get from your own parents, thats a testament to the power of the Lord working n your heart. Brought a tear of joy to my eyes knowing people like you guys are out there. I can tell you are good people who love Jesus and care. I don't know you two personally but you seem to have good souls. May God bless you and your family and may you live a happy life together.
I remember the first time I really listened to the lyrics of this song. I was out walking for exercise and was listening to a local country radio station, when they played this song. I grew up with a dysfunctional family.. although not as bad as depicted in this song... but all the same.. this song brought me to my proverbial knees. I literally stopped walking and stood there on a sidewalk in the middle of town and cried. To this day.. I can't listen to this song without crying and feeling grateful for the presence of our lord through the many difficult times of my life while growing up and for all of the blessings received by my family since.
I just wanted to say thank y'all, your reaction was real loving. I have watched fifty -sixty reactions and y'all are the first ones to acknowledge God was with her. I will be a subscriber forever! Thanks again.
Love a good country storytelling song, this one was hard but had a good ending…sad but it happens everyday! I love that y’all fostered children, so many need amazing beautiful people like u to show them love and family!!! Just beautiful Shawn & Mel ❤️
One of the many reasons why it's so important to teach you children kindness. You never know what other children are going through. Not all children go home to love - or have the nicer material things. Or have parents that care.. just be kind
i hadn't heard this song in years but this time i started crying. when i was around 4 years old my parents split up and i can remember hiding behind our couch when they would fight. i've been having some bad mental health problems this week and as many times as i have heard this song this is the first time that those memories came back with it. even more than that the thing that gets me every time is that the Lord himself came to protect this child. God that tears me to pieces.
Wow. Just listened to this song for the first time with you. I have a lovely daughter and 3 wonderful grandsons. Oh with a great grandson on the way and I’m only 64 lol. Children need to be loved and cherished.
Wow y’all blow me away 🙏 I grew up in a group home from the age of 2 till I was 18 , I would of luved for someone to adopt or to be my foster mom and dad BLESS YOU BOTH 🙏🙏🙏🙏❤❤❤❤ I know the kids you had in your home Will remember the love you gave them , THANK YOU 🥹🥹🥹🥹
Songs that tell stories are so impactful. I listened to a lot of rock but my wife introduced me to the country story telling songs. There are so many. Keep up the good work.
I love your reaction to this and the other videos you react to!!! ❤ Thanks for being real and honest with your feelings! Abuse is horrible especially to children.
Wow! That was powerful.... And bless you both for doing what you do for the kids. That's the perfect job for you guys. You both so full of love, and you have enough to share with kids that are not so blessed to have wonderful oarents like you two. ❤
Man these reactions hit different than listening to the music alone.I've heard this song many times and not ever.cried to it before.seeing your faces put me over the edge.
When this song first came out, I literally had tears in my eyes every time I heard it. No other song has ever had that affect on me. Something about the picture the lyrics paint hit its mark on my soul.
😭💭 This song gets me every time lol. John Michael's farm is about 6 miles from my house and his ex wife lives 2 neighborhoods over from me. My daughter and his daughter, Taylor were in the same grade throughout school and they really are some very nice people❤
this is a beautiful song and story. your reactions when you found out her parents died were so good. the whole reaction was good but that was the moment i was waiting for.
My grandparents fostered over 300 children over the years. Many of them I remember playing with in her huge yard every day, all summer. I remember seeing the scars and the being best friend to someone who needed a friend so badly. Even though sometimes it was only for one summer, they left a lifelong impression in my life. I remember many of their names to this day and wish we could reconnect as adults now. Sometimes God puts us where we need to be, I believe that is what happened here. ❤❤❤
I couldn't finish your video, I was crying too hard. This song always does that. Another one I can barely make it through is Craig Morgan's Almost Home.
@@ShawnandMel4Life A good wife is hard to find. ~ Proverbs 31:10 Shawn, don't ever change. Keep on loving your wife. ~ Ephesians 5: 25, 28 Both of you stay "glorious" ~ Proverbs 19:11
Another great production y'all. Much appreciated. This is a sad story but has a happy ending and describes a miracle of Our Lord's intervention in our world. An Angel of God appeared in the guise of our Savior to protect an innocent child and increase our faith. It is heartbreaking that any child suffers abuse and neglect however. Your assertions that your child had both love but also the benefit of a mother AND a father to provide "balance." Well said. It is a very great blessing to have been a child so raised but, perhaps, even greater still a blessing to be a parent able to provide for children in this way. Imagine how courageous and generous must be those foster and adoptive parents...like y'all! God bless you!! Now, where else can you listen to song of such power and value? Well, y'all know. You've learned as I hoped y'all would. Again, God bless for sharing your hearts; your life and love; and your learning with us all.
I just want to let both of you know that I love you because both of you are 2 of the most amazing people that I have ever had the privilege of ever knowing in my life time and I just wanted to say thank you for that !!!
Shawn and Mel was truly being honest about it could have been them or us but it’s happening right now with tons of kids, even though it’s the 21st Century. DFACS can’t keep them all from being hurt. I am not a foster dad to any kids but for the people that do, thanks!
I have loved this song for 30 years and it never fails to get me crying, but I gotta say it hits different once you are saved and have a relationship with Jesus yourself. 💗
My brother and i were abused physically and mentally . My dad was in the navy and was gone and mom was an alchoholic. When we grew up we swore to break the many generational curse and no he has 3 sons and i have 2 daughters. It is possible to break the curse. All in gods name!
John Michael Montgomery was the one that got me into Country Music back in the 90's and the Song: "SOLD, (The County Auction Incident)". Please check it out, it has a Great video too 👊💛👍
I love this song 😭😭😭 When I was 12 I used to run away from home. Back then pedophiles weren't a thing most kids knew about. It was the early 90's. A man drove by me in the night and asked me if I wanted a ride. I talked to him about how I didn't want to live with my dad anymore. He told me that he and his wife were looking for a new daughter. They had other kids. He said that if his wife approved of me, they would make me a part of their family. I was like really?? Wow okay. He made it sound fun and said we would make movies and take pictures together. I thought it sounded exciting. So he dropped me off by a store and asked me to wait behind it so he could bring his wife to see me. As I waited there I felt this strange feeling come over me. I suddenly became anxious and I heard "Get out of here. Run!". I didn't even bother to wonder who it was or where it came from. It was so real and loud within me that I knew I had to run. So I ran until I got to a friend's house. I have never forgotten that moment. I'm 43 now. I know for a fact that it was the Lord 🙏🙏❤️❤️
It was abundantly clear from the very start of the video how upbeat yall were that yall had never heard or knew what this song was all about or what yall were getting into with this one. To me this is far and away the toughest saddest Country or for that matter any Song of any kind that I have ever listened to.
Makes me cry every time!
After all these years, this video still makes me cry. This song is an example of country telling a story that will hit you hard and stay with you. The last line always gives me chills, how He was there with her when her mom and dad died.
He is always there
Back when country was good.
Until the other day I hadn’t heard this song since before I was a wife and mom. It hit me like a freight train when I re-listened to it and I can’t seem to shake it. We live in a world where much misery occurs. In spite of that, there is still hope and the ending of this song reminds me of the hope.
Amen Mark
