James Blunt's father Charles, himself a kidney donor, was diagnosed with stage four chronic kidney disease. Blunt wrote "Monsters" to "express his feelings about his father and his illness, He said of the song and video: "Monsters is a eulogy to my father - except he's still alive and kicking. He received a kidney that saved his life.
I lost my mother 4 days ago.... i honestly need to hear this song. My father rests in our family graveyard in Whiteriver, Arizona... Apache. My mother's last wish was to go back and be with her husband. This really hits hard since I had to help my father pass as his hospice nurse.... all those things don't matter; he was my father and I loved him. Caretaker of my mother for the last 10 years for nothing, I learned so much about her that I didn't know before... I believe all of us are worth it and helping us see some light is honestly the real treasures of this world.
All the best from the UK. Been there with family members now as ive got older. We take them with us as we carry on...we carry them but if you let it,it can be a lighter weight. ..a weight that is actually carrying us.The guilt of care home ,the guilt of what else you should have done or should have been ...stop that .We measure things differently to how things are actually measured. Its all good.
May all your memories comfort you. It hurts to lose our parents. I know mine are dancing as dad's sweet tenor voice sings to mom. So I remain here with my kids and grands without them. Life is a circle game. As always. Sorry for your loss.
Whenever Father or Son was deployed they would say the phrase "I''m not your...etc to keep from getting too emotional. I heard this sond 4 days after my Mother's death. What a kick in the heart.
I'm at an age where things are shifting. I'm 10 years older than my husband. He's an OTR truck driver and I am disabled. Our 32 year old son has sacrificed so much to stay home and take care of me while his dad is on the road. Women reject him for "failure to launch." He's limited in job choices because he wants to work remotely because I fall frequently. Yet, he remains cheerful and does his best to never let us see the burden he's accepted. Thank you, son.
i just finished 10 years of taking care of my mother and it was absolutely the best experience of my life. don't lose hope, value every day you see together, very day is another chance for fresh memories and those can never be bought. I hope the best for your family.
You are blessed to have a son like you do. What a man! He will eventually find a woman worthy of him. After all, his future wife should realize that he will take her the way he takes care of you. I am a man BTW.
I took care of my dad for the last 14 years. I lost him in April. Tell your son that he’ll find someone. I’ve been married four years to an amazing woman.
His father was his commanding officer, the last time they went in deployment he father said to him your not my son I'm not your father we're just two men saying goodbye. That's why that line is in the song
James Blunt is an amazing singer & at the time of the video he was told his father was to die due to failure of his kidney. Fotunatly he got a donor after the video which must a been a massive relief for his father & ofcourse himself & the family. Brilliant song written by him showing his heartfelt feelings.💝💝
Great review. James Blunt refused autotune to fix the crying issues. He wanted it to be as is for his father who he didn't think was going to find a kidney donor. A distant cousin from Australia saw the video and checked compatibility and was a match and his father was able to get a transplant for his stage 4 kidney disease. He had donated a kidney himself years ago so this was a blessing. As fate would have it, the cousin had the same name as Charles Blount. Who is stil alive today. Heart felt song rhat applies to fathers, mothers and anyone acting as a parent. Love James Blunt as a. Singer songwriter of life. Would love to see a review of lesser done songs like Tears and Rain, No Bravery, If Time is All I have . Really any of the amazing James Blunt songs. Can't go wrong with any really.
Both father and son were in the British military (James served in Kosovo), and when one would deploy his dad would say "You're not my son. I'm not your father. We're just two grown men saying goodbye" to help them keep a stiff upper lip and go do what they needed to. He and his dad are close. He also gave the proceeds of this to an organization that helps veterans, I believe. Check out "No Bravery"-- it has excerpts from his video diary as an officer. Deep song.
Good for you, mate, for not continually pausing it and thus destroying the groove of the track. You allow us to listen along with you and feel our own thoughts about what we are listening to, then we can listen to what you have to say about it and see if you were thinking tha same as we were. Far too many reactors think they are far more important than the track they are going to listen to with us, and pause it to death whilst making inane and irrelevant comments that mean nothing to the track itself! You just showed your class, mate. Thank you, and good luck with your channel. I wish you rainbows.
@@OLDMANHUDA 2 songs he wrote while serving in Kosovo… No Bravery and Carry You Home.. both hit you in the heart and of course there is the …The Girl Who Never Was…another tear jerker
His dad was dying of kidney disease at the time of this video. Thankfully, he found a match & had a transplant & is still with us. Beautiful tribute to his father & I am so glad he still has him. Now I need to recommend some country music that will make you laugh, instead of cry. Toby Keith has a ton of hilarious songs/videos, like 'As good as I once was', 'How do you like me now?', 'I wanna talk about me', 'Trailerhood' or 'I love this bar, to name just a few. He has a fun duet/video with Willie Nelson too, called 'Beer for my horses' & it's like TV episode of a cop show. He makes the best videos =, so always look for them. i promise you will laugh out loud, while hearing good music.
I think we as people who love to watch reactors, like to connect sometimes, & showing vulnerability with us, does that......thank you for being real & raw with us Thanks!
James Blunt is a British singer. He wrote this song for his dad who had stage 4 kidney disease at the time. His father is the gentleman with him at the end of the video. Because of this video, his dad received a kidney from a donor and is now doing fine.
Years ago, (after desert storm, NAVHOSP 29Palms) I worked with a retried HMC going into Kidney failure. He was a great guy. I took a second and signed my License to be an Organ Donor. Still an organ donor. everything seems to work ok so they can have it all if I get killed on the road. The liver has some mileage though. Heart is good, kidneys fine. Eyes a bit blurry but usable. Consider being an organ donor so this song does not become one family's reality.
Discovered this song myself not long ago, it kicked me in the nuts thought about my dad the whole time he died back in 93. I dont show emotion to others i cried.
These other songs of james blunt hit hard too: "Carry you home", "The girl that never was", "Dark Thoughts". More uplifting but no less meaningful "The greatest" and "Someone singing along". I would recommend watching the official videos, they are the best!
Actually, his father had kidney disease and was on the transplant list. He made this song because his father was dying and they couldn't find a kidney. After the video was released, there were several private offers for donation and a match was found. He saved his father's life with this song.
@@ninjakitty4228true. It was not cancer. The story is found on Wikipedia. It also informs that James’s father was a kidney donor himself, so he only had one kidney, which made his situation extra critical.
I understand his sister wrote this song when their dad was near death so they made this to raise funds to donate , but they were lucky they found a donor and the money raised was given to charity
So I assume you haven’t reacted to Iam Tongi singing Monsters in his American Idol audition? He later sings a duet with James Blunt singing Monsters. Please react to both of those too if you haven’t already. Thanks.

This song....I feel it.
Great reaction!
you're truly blessed
I have heard this song many times, crying everytime, if you don't cry you don't have a heart ♥️
Just cause someone doesn't cry to it don't mean they don't have a heart. It's an emotional song for sure though
Everyone expresses emotions differently, not everyone interprets music the same way you do
Love your reaction great song and thank God his father indeed relieved a match and survived.
A very true and emotional song❤❤❤
Ive never heard this till today and damn. Hits the soul
I'm 60 and every song of his makes me cry. Beautiful and sad at once. Great reaction about your relationship with your son. Best to you.
It’s hauntingly beautiful. Great reaction. ❤
Another heartfelt song of his (and a little newer) is Girl That Never Was.
I had my hand resting on my mother's chest as she took her last breath... this song hits hard, every time.
