I carry Pedialyte powder packs, and after two bottles of water, I add it to replace the minerals I have lost. I also give it to my dog, vet oked! It come flavored with fruits and berrys and unflavored. It’s very low in sugar unlike the sports drinks and since it a powder it light weight so I can take it birding . I’m susceptible to heat exhaustion so it’s a big help

Hey Chris, since Fern is brachycephalic, have you ever tried an evaporative cooling vest for her on hot outings? My old landlord lives out in Nevada and swears by them when he takes his dog (a good mutt) out prospecting in the arid heat. I've no idea if it would be effective, but if it is, based on reviews, it might help her or you (they make human versions) if you start to feel overheated. Anyway, give Fern a big scratch behind the ears from us here (okay, gadzee can have one too).

You will still get blisters but When you're doing rapid strikes with the pick try separating your hands a bit it allows more control of the handle movement and tends to not let the handle do as much pull on the hands reducing the chances of getting bad blisters such as that. And best thing to do when you get something like that is make a pin hole in it as soon as it starts to blister so it will drain rather then keep filling with fluid stretching the skin more and more making a overall bigger wound instead the skin can fuse back together and your body will use turn that top dead layer into extra protection otherwise known as chalice your body's natural armor

I once went mountain biking in North Wales during one of the hottest UK summers I can remember, on the trails built between the trees of the Coed-y-Brennin forest (an old gold mining hotspot) with no fresh air or much airflow of any kind and drank my way through 9ltrs of water...but, still felt thirsty!
Heat does crazy things to the body for sure, but, you gotta make sure you don't dilute your blood without replacing electrolytes too...something I don't think I had fully appreciated at the time as i had literally zonked all energy from my muscles!
    Stay safe my man!

I absolutely love your enthusiasm. I loathe some of those nonsense shows (e.g. the ever repetitive partial episodes that are milked by 'Aussie Gold & Opal Hunters') where they have a crew pull out a massive dose of gold and they take like two minutes to weigh out what they've got, even though they clearly already know, and then at the end they moan about how little they have because it's only 75 ounces or some such bollocks, it is wonderful to see people like you guys get enthusiastic over what you find. And yeah, I get that you're a hobbiest but it's insulting to the viewer of those shows when you can clearly see how the crap has been edited.
In other words, good for you. Thanks for sharing what you do and in an honest way.

Nice one Chris, I was going to ask a long time ago if you have ever followed the gold to its source. Also I watch a few prospectors, Dan Hurd, mbmm, mbmm does a lot of sampling then refines the gold to get an accurate idea of gold per tonne, to weigh your bucket of sample ore then processed gold would be interesting to watch. Great content keep it up 👍

Great sample, but with the current situation with the government and the mines department they won't issue a TMA/ lease, even for a small scale operation.
Over the past twelve months we had to hand back our mines, shaft mine wouldn't renewal the lease, alluvial mine now Greene's won't let any clearing of ground, which they gave us the full go ahead a few years ago.
Check the prospecting regs on how deep you can dig ( a foot I think ?) If this is the case, you dig the first foot, Mick the second, Gaz the third and Fren the next then start all over again. Good luck and keep digging.👍⛏️🥃

High-grade pieces can null themselves out!
Like multi nuggets in the same hole you get a weaker signal then if you just had one of them nuggets.
Try using a piece of plywood and throw in the high-grade pieces on top of it with it 8 inches off the ground no metal of course you could use a piece of plastic it’s a whole New World you’re not ground balancing all the mineralization out.
This is a big deal for chasing the kind of gold you want to chase!
Gold will lead you to gold but if you can’t hear it only pick up a piece here in there.
I have absolutely killed it we’re mini mini people have been over the ground time and time again !
This technique is for high graders not regular detecting nuggets
