The best cameras are on the biggest phones, yet I won't buy a phone if I can't use it with one hand. Smaller phones from years back, I still consider better. I think they can't fit bigger upgrades into the same size phones each year, so keep going up. If consumers see basically no hardware differences between last year's phone and current, they're unlikely to upgrade. If you don't play super intense games and need the best camera, there's basically no reason to upgrade over the past years with marginal differences in experience. Sure the specs have vastly improved over time, but the actual experience difference is marginal. I've finally convinced myself to maybe try iPhone, and I'm torn between iPhone 15 Pro (6.12") or iPhone 13 Mini (5.42"). Right now I have a Samsung Galaxy S23 (6.1"); I can reach the top one-handed, have big hands, but it's uncomfortable.
That whole screenshot problem you have is literally just a skill issue. I (a 6.1 inch 14 pro user) and my friend (a 6.7 inch pro max user) literally laughed at this because we literally have never had this issue happen.
Precisely why i downgraded from a Pixel 7a to one of the Iphone SE's that came out in the last few years. The pain i would get in my hand has now mostly gone away with the SE. Apple were one of the last few phone makers producing an actual compact smartphone. But i hear if the leaks and rumours are true they'll be abandoning the small size with the next SE to the same size as the 7a, which'll really suck for those of us with these problems. And i hear there won't be another numbered Iphone Mini like the 12 or 13 Mini either. Sucks even more. Reviewers seem to really like the Mini range. Especially the 13. Apparently it's because the smaller phones aren't selling as well. That and being able to fit more and newer tech in a bigger body.
I used to have a XR and I can confirm I had the screenshot issue all the time. I kind of forgot about it because I never do it with my 13 Mini. Sometimes I do miss the larger screen of the XR (plus, I'm one of those weirdo people who actually prefers LCD over OLED) but I don't miss the overall size and all the accidental screenshots, haha.
I think they want to find a balance between portability and physical space for internal components. People want better battery life while iPhone mini barely survives through a day.
