Two years later and pretty much the average screen size is 6.5". I was recently looking for a phone for my mother-in-law, I'm in charge of getting that stuff for her, and I couldn't find anything under 6", except the iPhone 13 mini at 5.4", which is too pricey for what I needed. Especially for someone who doesn't even use text messaging, doesn't take pictures, does not even check her voice mail. Besides the iPhone mini, I found a couple of crappy/unknown Chinese phones with bad reviews. But that' it. So my mother-in-law got stuck with a 6.5" that she finds too big. As for me, I'm still happy with my HTC 10 with a 5.2" screen. And I'll be keeping it as long as the battery holds a charge. The way things are going, by the time I need to replace it I'll be lucky to find anything under 7".
Why didn't you buy her an older android with a new battery? Or better yet, a feature phone? If she doesn't need any smart features, there's absolutely no point in buying her a smartphone, you're just looking in the wrong market entirely.
@@alexwr I know that there's no point in getting her a smartphone. But that's what she wanted to try. And it's her money, I wasn't paying for it. As for an older android, she didn't want a used phone. She also didn't want another flip phone, which is what I was replacing after she broke it. My gf suggested the Jitterbug to her but she shot it down because it was "an old person's phone". Trust me, I wanted to get her another simple flip phone, but she just didn't want it. She has been hinting that she made a mistake and is reconsidering a flip phone once again.
@@BigNews2021 I've been using one since 2020 and so has my dad. I'm 31 he's 59. We both love that model and you can find new old stock of the 2020 model for $130 sometimes
This is why I won't buy a new phone. I've been using the same phone for four years now. It's getting old and slowing down but the newer phones are just too damn big. They're heavy, hard too hold and I can barely fit them in my pockets.
I always prefered smaller phones. First I used Galaxy S2, than iPhone 5s, which I used it for like 4 years until 2019, and then the Galaxy s10e. I didn't really choose my phone only by myself because I'm young, but still.
I agree 🙌 after the iPhone 5S I even used the original iPhone SE for some time because I just got used to that phone and size. Unfortunately now there are fewer and fewer good options on the market if you're looking for a smaller device, but who knows, maybe one day that will change again. 🙂
As someone whom has owned mostly smaller smartphones, including the one I currently have, I DON'T LIKE these pocket busting behemoths! I have small hands, and like not having to go through some serious finger gymnastics just to slide to another page or pluck out a function at the top! On a smaller phone, even with the keyboard being single finger hit or swiped with the opposite hand, I can still securely hold the handset totally witin the other hand... Cannot do that with these big monsters - out of your hands, and on the floor it all goes!
Currently I use s10e. My plan is to use it 2 to 2.5 years. I prefer android to iOS, but if there will be no alternative to s10e I will switch to iPhone. I will never buy phone larger than 6".
To me, the Pixel 5 is about the biggest I like a phone to be. 6" screen, edge to edge, comfortable enough to hold in the hand with a "big enough" screen for modern media consumption. An ideal phone size/screen size device is the iPhone 13 Mini. 5.3" screen edge to edge, and the physical size of the phone is actually smaller than the SE.
unihertz seems to make some decent smaller phones but I haven't yet decided if i will buy one but i think i probably will especially after i saw that they started selling replacement parts. 🙂
The last good phones were the iPhone 5 series (5,5s,5c,SE 2016) after that it just went downhill. Phones are stupidly big you can't get anything reasonably priced under 6.5 inches and all that because of excessive content consumption which is a problem in itself. Apple lost its way after Jobs and now, since even Jony Ive left, there's no one there who cares about making the best and most sensible product. When it comes to Android it's the same. There are some "compact" options but only in the flagship market. The last cheaper small Android was pixel 4a and that's it. I seriously consider leaving smartphones all together nowadays. It was great while it lasted...
I watched this on Dec 2022, I broke the screen of my Samsung A40 and I was looking for a new phone, but I couldn't find anything smaller than 6.4". The A40 is 5.9" and before that I had the S3 mini which was even smaller. I remember thinking that A40 was bigger and inconvenient than the S3 mini but I got used to it. But no, enough is enough, I found the original part and battery for A40 and I will keep it until they start becoming smaller again (hopefully).
I currently have a Oneplus 6t. I'm happy with it, but it's the absolute max size I wanna have. So, there is no option for me. The Galaxy S21 is the same size, but not as good as the S21 ultra. So not an option for me.

@Anonymous Leopard I did, although now I use a galaxy S10. Also used the Oneplus 9 Pro for some time. Sort of got used to the size and weight, but then I got the S10 and it really fits me perfectly
I'm not going away from my heavily underclocked galaxy s7. I may even downgrade to a galaxy s5, underclock it and use a new battery, as i can replace them. Android is now very light and there are custom roms that can handle 2 app multitasking with 2gb of ram.
I like the size of the pixel 4a at 5.8". I really dislike the massive size of modern phones
