This was actually a test AND a code between the two. John was testing him to see if he would help him (which is why he lets him go and tells him to take the night off) and Francis replies Over 60 pounds (or 27 kilograms), a code for nearly 27 security guys/henchman protecting the boy. This is also being used in the military forces around to world too. VERY cool way to again show us how much of a badass and how respected John Wick is. Also thee one thing I like about Keanu Reaves is the amount of effort he puts into a role. You can find videos of his training sessions for these movies where he spends countless time at a gun range training with all sorts of guns to the point where he knows how each gun he handles will behave IRL and will actually handle them accordingly for things like checking to ensure the weapons are not jammed. You will see him handle a pistol in the second John Wick movie where he will kinda toss the gun in his hand a little to press down on the chamber because the pistol he is using at that time is known for having bullets getting jammed and is checking the chamber to make sure it is clear enough to fire. Keanu also went through 4 months of training, 5 days a week, 8 hours a day to bring his character to life. He also went through Judo, Japanese Ju-Jutsu, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. So Keanu is that accurate and deadly in real life. You can find a few videos of his trainings with a company known as Taran Tactical. Keanu also had help from former Navy SEAL and CIA Contractor Shawn Ryan.
The best line in the whole movie to me is “you will do nothing, because you can do nothing” it’s so direct and sinister, perfectly telling Vigos son EXACTLY who John is.

About Perkins getting killed, the Continental has a strict policy on killing on hotel grounds. That hotel is essentially the neutral location for the assassins so no killing is allowed there. Anyone who does, well you see the result.

That knife at the end probably went straight through Vigo’s subclavian artery. Being one of the major arteries, it would explain why he didn’t last long. With its location, it’s not something you can easily tourniquet, and if you can’t stop the bleeding, you have about 2-20 minutes to live.
A bullet proof vest is to just to try to make an attack not lethal; getting shot with a bullet proof vest still breaks ribs and put people on bed rest. *Retired Army here
This is the most powerfull start of a movie ever. There was never such a good excuse for over the top violence. The original John Wick is a stroke of genius.
I think one of the best details in the fight scene at John's house is the bullet casings hitting the floor. Other than the sound of the shots, the clink of the casings as they hit the floor shows the accuracy and stealth nature of Wick dispatching the crew tasked to end him.

I think the reason there was no theatrics when John kills Viggo's son is because John just views it as something that had to be done. I don't think he has any emotion when it comes to that side of him, so when that switch got flipped, he was basically just putting in his 8 hours of work. Killing Viggo's son was just like us clocking out for the day.

He agreed to it the moment he heard that the contract was open, which meant that there were multiple assassins going to try and kill John, so he agreed to give him a bit more protection in case John ended up in a tight spot (and as we see later in the movie he actually did lol)
During the club chase scene John wasn't missing, he was playing a game. Before the kid even took off John had a clean shot, but took the gun off of him and shot the guy underneath while keeping eye contact. If John outright killed him in the bathhouse the kid would just die, not suffer for what he did. John purposefully aims inches in front of him to scare him and cause more pain than just a shot in the chest/head. It may also be the reason he didnt give a speech before the final shot. Normally its to rub in your victory and enjoy the satisfaction, but the entire chase was Johns revenge and satisfaction. The people at the rave didn't react because of Johns timing. Yes you can see the people dropping, but since John timed his shots to the bass of the music no one heard/interpreted the gunshots as actual threats. "I go out on my own (terms)" meaning youre not gonna get to torture me to death for your satisfaction, I'm instead gonna fight back and kill as many as i can before you take me out. In case it never clicked, your advice to kill her in the hall would've got John killed as well. The reason she got shot in the end is she killed that man on hotel grounds, which is the "business" they were talking about. Thats why they made a stink about it when he checked in, because performing hitman duties while staying at the hotel breaks the rules and gets you killed. The last blow John takes is very smart, and he doesn't bleed out because he wouldn't. John aimed the knife in the exact location where his injury was, the same injury that the doctor told him was in a "lucky" spot because it had no veins or organs nearby that could be hurt. Yes that clipboard was marked to put the dog down and John rescued him. I dont know if you live in the US, but sadly because of terrible pet owners pitbulls have been labeled as aggressive dogs and normally dont get adopted. When animal shelters get full and need to get more capacity, they put down animals that they believe will never be adopted (either too old or too aggressive). The worst part of it all is that since its a stereotype for pitbulls, most are labeled aggressive without ever lashing out and are put to sleep for no reason.
So many great details in the movie, like during the bathhouse fight, John is in blue light, while the hetchmen is in red light, when they start sparring, it becomes purple to build up tense. Also, Viggo does through a journey of becoming increasingly drunk, going from nice high end alcohols, not taking up the drink Marcus made, to cheaper beer to weed, perfect. I also would say Marcus was a real homie for looking after John.
Going off of your question about "how would you be if you were the son of a gang leader?", you are right that how you grow up would likely influence how you would end up. The only pathway that would be hard to go down would be the moral path. If a son of a gang leader wanted to be an honest and decent person, the others in the gang might not let that happen so easily.

had Viggo just told his son about John (who he is, what he used to do, what he looks like, who his wife is, what his car looks like, etc), Iosef would still be alive. He's blaming his bad parenting on everyone else.

I think the reason there was no theatrics when John kills Viggo's son is because John just views it as something that had to be done. I don't think he has any emotion when it comes to that side of him, so when that switch got flipped, he was basically just putting in his 8 hours of work. Killing Viggo's son was just like us clocking out for the day.

He agreed to it the moment he heard that the contract was open, which meant that there were multiple assassins going to try and kill John, so he agreed to give him a bit more protection in case John ended up in a tight spot (and as we see later in the movie he actually did lol)

During the club chase scene John wasn't missing, he was playing a game. Before the kid even took off John had a clean shot, but took the gun off of him and shot the guy underneath while keeping eye contact. If John outright killed him in the bathhouse the kid would just die, not suffer for what he did. John purposefully aims inches in front of him to scare him and cause more pain than just a shot in the chest/head. It may also be the reason he didnt give a speech before the final shot. Normally its to rub in your victory and enjoy the satisfaction, but the entire chase was Johns revenge and satisfaction.
The people at the rave didn't react because of Johns timing. Yes you can see the people dropping, but since John timed his shots to the bass of the music no one heard/interpreted the gunshots as actual threats.
"I go out on my own (terms)" meaning youre not gonna get to torture me to death for your satisfaction, I'm instead gonna fight back and kill as many as i can before you take me out.
In case it never clicked, your advice to kill her in the hall would've got John killed as well. The reason she got shot in the end is she killed that man on hotel grounds, which is the "business" they were talking about. Thats why they made a stink about it when he checked in, because performing hitman duties while staying at the hotel breaks the rules and gets you killed.
The last blow John takes is very smart, and he doesn't bleed out because he wouldn't. John aimed the knife in the exact location where his injury was, the same injury that the doctor told him was in a "lucky" spot because it had no veins or organs nearby that could be hurt.
Yes that clipboard was marked to put the dog down and John rescued him. I dont know if you live in the US, but sadly because of terrible pet owners pitbulls have been labeled as aggressive dogs and normally dont get adopted. When animal shelters get full and need to get more capacity, they put down animals that they believe will never be adopted (either too old or too aggressive). The worst part of it all is that since its a stereotype for pitbulls, most are labeled aggressive without ever lashing out and are put to sleep for no reason.

and the Gun that Don was curious about is specifically a KS-G bullpup action shotgun.
So many great details in the movie, like during the bathhouse fight, John is in blue light, while the hetchmen is in red light, when they start sparring, it becomes purple to build up tense.
Also, Viggo does through a journey of becoming increasingly drunk, going from nice high end alcohols, not taking up the drink Marcus made, to cheaper beer to weed, perfect.
I also would say Marcus was a real homie for looking after John.
Going off of your question about "how would you be if you were the son of a gang leader?", you are right that how you grow up would likely influence how you would end up. The only pathway that would be hard to go down would be the moral path. If a son of a gang leader wanted to be an honest and decent person, the others in the gang might not let that happen so easily.
also john nearly never misses shots except the bathhouse club ones on iosef, its believed he either guided him or miscalculated the warping of the glass inbetween

yeah as it's established pretty well, but there's an entire network of the underworld and organizations, in this series you never know who's gonna be the next hitman or gangster to appear on your doorstep, that taxi driver, that mailman, that random mother walking down the street, that guy with a dog walking at 7am each morning, you never quite know who's gonna know who, and I love it lmao
