    RIP, Lance Reddick, the concierge from the John Wick movies passed away Friday morning at age 60.
    When they premiered the movie, John Wick 4, in London, the director said that "this movie is for our friend and brother Lance Reddick. We love you, we miss you, man." The audience got up and applauded. I saw a video on Twitter.

    The dog wasn't just a pet it was supposed to represent John having a normal life, but when they killed the dog, they took away his one chance of happiness.
    Back in the early 2000's the character was written to be much older and that actors Harrison Ford, Clint Eastwood and Paul Newman were considered for the part, until Keanu Reeves was cast as the titular assassin.

    With regards to Daisy: Apparently the actor who played the thug who 'killed' her was so upset by the scene that he spent literally hours after they finished filming that bit, just sitting and holding/playing with her and bawling his eyes out. He ended up adopting her and apparently she's now much loved by him and his family and super spoiled.
    So, a sorta-kinda happy ending to the whole thing.
    Also, the dog in the end, if you pause the movie at just the right time, you can see that he's going to be euthanized the next day, so John literally saved his life...kind of a fitting parallel.

      I read that. I sobbed my head off when I lost each of my dogs(first one on my birthday 2009). Was damn near crying so hard I brought myself to coughing and near throwing up when my second had to be put to sleep. When I got my 3rd I brought her home, sleeping in my lap while I pet her and cried. She's a good puppy.

  • @Maratonkata
    @Maratonkata Рік тому +6

    Fun Fact:
    When John goes to the Club to kill the kid and starts with the bodyguard outside, He says, "You've lost weight" and Francis Replied "Over 60 pounds". This was actually a test AND a code between the two. John was testing him to see if he would help him (which is why he lets him go and tells him to take the night off) and Francis replies Over 60 pounds (or 27 kilograms), a code for nearly 27 security guys/henchman protecting the boy. This is also being used in the military forces around to world too. VERY cool way to again show us how much of a badass and how respected John Wick is. Also thee one thing I like about Keanu Reaves is the amount of effort he puts into a role. You can find videos of his training sessions for these movies where he spends countless time at a gun range training with all sorts of guns to the point where he knows how each gun he handles will behave IRL and will actually handle them accordingly for things like checking to ensure the weapons are not jammed. You will see him handle a pistol in the second John Wick movie where he will kinda toss the gun in his hand a little to press down on the chamber because the pistol he is using at that time is known for having bullets getting jammed and is checking the chamber to make sure it is clear enough to fire. Keanu also went through 4 months of training, 5 days a week, 8 hours a day to bring his character to life. He also went through Judo, Japanese Ju-Jutsu, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. So Keanu is that accurate and deadly in real life. You can find a few videos of his trainings with a company known as Taran Tactical. Keanu also had help from former Navy SEAL and CIA Contractor Shawn Ryan.

      Believe he said 27 kilograms & you're correct "that was code for there's 27 people waiting for you inside" & the person setting the film up for US audiences did a conversion 27 Kg/60Lb. Thinking Americans who've been seeing images of Kg's of drugs on TV since 1980's & Miami Vice won't know what a kilogram is.

    It's funny that you point out that the same guys keep showing up because they did this movie on such a small budget that they would have John shoot someone, they'd lay there for a second and then (out of frame) they'd crawl over so he could kill them again.

  • @Crazyivan777

    He was never Willem DaFoe. He was Willem DaFriend. :)
    On a more serious note - When John's fighting Viggo at the end, and he tosses his gun, Viggo says "No more guns!" to request he throw away the pistol. John's response is "No more bullets" indicating that he's just tossing it because he's out of ammo.

  • @thirst4wisdom
    @thirst4wisdom Рік тому +3

    This movie is very accurate. The shot counts match the rounds available for each gun being used before needing a mag change. In the beginning of the movie, Wick is wearing his watch normal, but when doing business he flips it upside down. This is a military tactic to prevent reflection being seen off the case/glass and so he can see his watch while holding his guns.There are many other details but these were cool to me.

    The series breaks most of Hollywood's "rules", and has become a very successful series because of it .
    1 the first film didn't spend half the films runtime developing the backstory and triggering events
    2 Other than a few rules The Continental is pretty much unexplained. A few people that rank higher up have appeared, but without names or history. (Disclaimer : I haven't seen 4 yet)
    3 The rest of the films end with cliffhangers.

    It wasn't luck that John found the animal clinic/shelter. As he and the new dog are walking away, you can see that that is the same riverside walkway where Helen collapsed the first time; John had been there before.

    I remember my wife surprised me with a trip to the movies and we watched this freakin loved it we've been John Wick fans since. Keanu trained for months for this role the director had him trained in Judo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and weapons training for the 2nd movie Tran tactical trained him for the weapons and he became a legit firearms shooter

    The John Wick series is something to binge watch one after the other because they are told in serial form. JW2 picks up where JW leaves off, then JW3 picks up right after JW2. JW4 being released this Friday picks up after the events of JW3.
    No spoiler, but you should watch the videos of Keanu Reeves gun training at the Taran Tactical school. Keanu and one of his JW3 costars trained in 3-Gun discipline (pistol, rifle, shotgun). He also does most of his own stunts including driving, the falls though from the balcony and some other stuff to come were done by stuntmen.

    The gold coins are Krugerrands. Minted in South Africa in the mid 60's they were illegal in many countries due to sanctions against S Africa because of apartheid. They are around 90% gold, and are worth about $2000 each currently, more when the Wick movies started due to gold prices fluctuating. So "dinner for 12" was around $24,000. Minimum.

    An ancient order called Assa-sins used to accept only gold as payment ( weight in gold) for their services such as espionage, murder, or counter-intelligence. It adds to the believability of the movie since there is precedence in real history. Some even argue that this is the origin of the Beggars Guild in China's past as well as the Ninja of Japan.

    I think the best way to describe the gold coins is that instead of them having an intrinsic monetary value, they are more like them being worth 1 favor. Whatever it is. Regardless of if it's ordering a drink at a bar or disposing of a body.

    You caught on quick and noticed things that most miss.
    That’s one of the best parts about the saga, attention to detail like that world would be; mixing in the coolest stunt work with weapons and cinematic fight scenes (like the one handed hammer slide).
    RIP Lance Reddick. We will miss your on-screen presence.

    That beginning of his wife dying, stealing his car and then once people seem them kill the dog EVERYONE is all in. John Wick could have been Hitler but once they killed the puppy it was KILL THEM ALL!!!! Still the most epic line, well he stole John Wick's car and killed his dog and the plain response of Oh.
    Lance Riddick died at 60 before John Wick 4 came out. Michael Nyqvist, Viggo, died at 57, 3 years of John Wick came out. Great character actors. They will be missed.

    When John Wick asked Francis (Kevin Nash WWE) if lost weight, and he responded 20 kilograms or about 60 lbs. He told him how many guards were in the club in taking care of Josef, that's why he gave Francis the night off. You both need to follow this rabbit hole, just hang on.
