If you listen to the studio version, the high note he hits is an octave higher.... He is able to produce over tone when he hits high notes...he got better at singing live with time, but this was in his real early days
Please listen to Ripper Owens' live version in '98 of Diamonds and Rust. Quite possibly the greatest cover of all-time. Better than even Rob Halford's.
Just gotta say, major JP fan, but this is trash, don't get why fans refer to this as a great example of his voice. "Unleashed in the East", Victim of Changes...his best performance I have ever heard.
I think this live version is unfortunate compared to the studio version, since he sings the high part in a completely different key here and the song goes too slow for his singing. It's like he started out the high part in the original key but then thought "Damn, it's gonna be too loud in this setting if I continue with this".
Gillan gets a bad rep for his stint with the Sabs, but he had had vocal nodule surgery, and the doctor warned him not to sing at all until he'd fully recovered. He disobeyed doctor's orders and permanently wrecked his voice. I don't think David Coverdale ever dared to try to sing Child In Time.
Hi Beth, just a quick comment about his not quite perfect pitch at the beginning. So this recording was live on the "Old Grey Whistle Test" tv show from for 70's. Basically the band had sound issues during their stint on the show. The reason being they were used to playing a lot louder. Anyways, the environment for them at this point in their career was pretty alien to them and they've spoke about it many times so I imagine Rob Halford wasn't quite 100% comfortable during this. On the record he sings it perfectly and there was no autotune back then :) Great videos BTW keep up the good work.

Child in time by Deep Purple would be nice
Made in Japan version
That one should be mandatory for every vocal coach - it´s the reference voice performance.
Absolutely massive tune that one.
Rob Halford is definitely one of the finest singers in metal but I can't even begin to describe how GODLY that guitar solo is!
Every time I see Rob with hair it's priceless.
You absolutely have to watch Painkiller after this, you will be in for such a surprise.
I really enjoyed your reaction.
Love this Beth. I remember seeing Priest in the early 70's. Local to me too. Brilliant Band.
Rob is Great and so are quite a few other metal singers who will never get any mainstream recognition but who cares! Us metalheads will just enjoy them for our own selves !
The word to describe the beginning part is ethereal.
Beth: "I think there's more to come" Me, a hard-core Priest fan - "Buckle up, the ride has just begun!"
As a singer and a huge fan of Robert Halford, I love this! I have to say that I get so much joy (and also a lot of great advice) from your videos! Thank you and please don't stop!

Rob halford looking into the camera was awesome and singing high notes out of no where. One of the best heavy metal live songs IMO.
I think this live version is unfortunate compared to the studio version, since he sings the high part in a completely different key here and the song goes too slow for his singing. It's like he started out the high part in the original key but then thought "Damn, it's gonna be too loud in this setting if I continue with this".
I agree. The studio version is much better.
@@domingoreyes9801 The low notes give me shivers. Too bad he didn't hit them.
If you look though this is before the studio version .
So glad you did this one. A particular favorite of mine. Rob has always been the best there is.
Halford in his heyday could give Ian Gillian and Robert Plant a run for their money.
Heck he's STILL perfectly capable of doing so.
@@Dragonblaster1 sabs?
@@Kgio-2112 Black Sabbath
Halford is way better than plant and Gillian
Rock's_Not_Dead I disagree. At least one of us is wrong.
Love, love, love this track. It really takes you on a journey. Amazing.
On the record he sings it perfectly and there was no autotune back then :) Great videos BTW keep up the good work.
love her personality
Judas Priest - painkiller is a must!!
Thank you for allowing me to see one more person experience this song for the first time.
React to “Sinner” by Judas Priest that is one of their best tunes hands down 🤘
'Run of the mill' Judas Priest. Talk about vocals...wow!
Queensryche - Take Hold of the Flame (Live in Tokyo)!
She did it! Just saw that one. She loved Geoff Tate and was kinda blown away.

Ooops, sorry. Different youtube vox coach. Still...
well, she did it anyway
By far my favorite era of Priest. Those early records were amazing- Sin After Sin is my favorite Priest album; Simon Phillips on drums!
Back when Preist was more hippiefied lol. Great song, great reaction!
This is def one of their best albums. Love this track.
This is Rob singing in a straight jacket, not a leather one. Still a Rock God.
Diamonds and Rust
Oh yeah! I bought the Rocka Rolla album on the strength of the cover art, and love it. Such a pleasant era for Priest, before the heavy stuff came back. Love this band so much.
I'm a life long metal head and I LOVE seeing you enjoy this stuff :-)
They're all so young here! This was roughly when my dad first got into them.
It really fascinates me to see a woman so young and with so much musical training sharing the taste for music that is part of the soundtrack of my life and that of so many others like me. More in the case of music that is 40 or more years old. Keep up the good work!!!
Child in time by Deep Purple pls!
thanks!! one of my favorite Priest tunes!
Love watching you react to The Metal Gods Judas Priest with the Metal God himself Rob Halford.... Do more Priest... he is amazing.
So much passion in this girl.
Beth, the queen of reactions, we love you girl
I can remember watching this at the time wow time flies
Thanks for finally listening to this wonderful singer and man. But let’s make a clear statement now: you’ve just been slightly touching the entrance of his amazing universe. By the end of your thumb. So much yet to be discovered!
Thanks so much for the reaction. Rob is such a legend. Thanks for now doing my top 3 favourite lead singers - Bruce Dickinson, James Labrie and now Rob Halford! Cheers!🍺
I'm shocked you didn't do Victim of Changes or Painkiller
I'd also love to hear Stargazer by Rainbow, Cemetery Gates by Pantera, or really any King Diamond
Would love to hear her reaction to "Victim".
You just got a new subscriber for sure! Your appreciation of the bold and the meek is refreshing. I'm learning a lot from you too. Please keep them coming!
I'm gonna say it again, I would love to see you react to some Gojira. You would be amazed by Joe
Yep, that wa a masterpiece from Judas. !!
In those years all singers were trying to imitate Robert Plant. By the way, the review of Stairway to Heaven would be a blast.
They were all from the same roots .
Which is Blues , Soul screamers and stuff .. But with an european operatic heritage .
Robert plant was influential , but he took a lot from steve marriot .
As far Judas priest scream goes .. its more on Deep purple side ... With Vibrato .
Plant didnt that .
On Glenn hugheson Trapeze era espacially Jury , And medusa .. as well than the riffing its quite close to What kind of song Priest did in thoses first 2 albums ..
One of the best rock ballads EVER!!
Priest is still putting out bangers. Their newest album, Firepower, is one of the best albums they've ever put out.
amazing singing by rob and the video of course
I think Rob Halford on the first couple albums (which this clip is from) was still trying to develop his voice. I think it's like a kid learning to drive in a super car. Rob Halford and the whole band quickly realise who they are and then really begin to hone their sound.
