The thing about deris is that all helloween songs are absolutelly high for him. If you get his solo carreer you will listen him singing in very lower keys. Nontheless he sings like this in helloween for more than 25 years and his voice is still there. Then he goes on tour with Michael kiske and sing the higher parts of the vocals. He is a master. A guy who was told that he wasnt good enough for 25 years and When You look back at what he’s done you get impressed.
I saw them when they visited Sweden Rock and Deris sounded terrible, really terrible. I don't know what happened. Kai and Kiske sounded good though.

When they started the reunited tour, Kiske was so sick that they had to use playback vocals. Thats how it is when you are 35 years performing on stage, noone can evade that.
I saw the "Deris Helloween" many times during a 15 years timespan and Andi always was on point.
In my opinion, he is much more versatile than Kiske. And he can overpower Kiske anytime. Kai` voice didnt aged that well, compared to Kiske and Andi. He can still sing several parts or songs, but he is not able anymore to perform a whole 60+ minutes show.
Dont get me wrong. In all the "Kiske vs. Deris" discussions, we always have to keep in mind that we talk about 2 vocalists 99.9% of classic/power/speed metal bands would kill for to have one of them.
The thing with Andy is that he dosesn't keep fit and in good shape. He smokes and drinks and all together strongly affects vocal condition. But still love him, after 25 years in helloween he is the main composer and the voice of the band.
I've always preferred Deris over Kiske. Kiske was actually quite generic in his time. Deris is unique and his style is much more dramatic and suited to metal.
@@denizenofclownworld4853 My introduction to Helloween was during the early years of Deris. Then I went back and experienced the best of the Kiske era. I frankly didn't like Kiske at that time (I absolutely appreciate Kiske's brilliance now, though.). Still, though, Deris is Helloween for me.
Other than Blind Guardian (and Gamma Ray), listening to the 94, 96, and 98 (Better than Raw introduced me to power metal) albums got me through my high school years.
Helloween is unique. Three great singers from three different eras: Hansen, Kiske and Deris playing together in 2019. The best heavy metal band ever!

Oh you don't want an actual person who knows keys hear Kiske's out-of-key falsetto. You will be disappointed is all. He wasn't good live.
No. Helloween is good after 1994. Kiske is awesome now but at that time they were all amateurs, both singing and composing.

@@mattvideoeditor they had a problem inside the band at that time. Chameleon album just a little "masterpiece" that they have. Some of songs in that album is nice to listen, such as I Don't Wanna Cry No More, Windmill, etc..

Besides to be a good singer, Andi is a great human beign. Humble, great frontman, nice, etc. He is a perfect gentleman 💙.

For me, Andi is actually one of the best singers out there. He does quite a lot of darker vocal work as well. The best is his upbeat and fast songs. His voice is just perfect for that kind of music

You should check out "Child in Time" from Deep Purple. The vocals in it helped spawn the vocal stylings of both Bruce Dickenson and Rob Halford, who then influenced a HUGE amount of other rock and metal vocalists.
Such a good song.
It would be interesting to compare early era Ian Gillan with himself after he broke his voice during his tour with Black Sabbath (1983). Ian basically had to re-learn singing in a completely different manner in order to not damage his cords even further.

Andi Deris is my favorite vocalist for Helloween. I used to pick Michael Kiske but Deris just has more variety of styles and more material. Master of the Rings and Time of the Oath are best albums with him singing.
Thank you. I can never pick between the two but I’m tired of people preaching about Keeper but sleeping on both albums you just mentioned.
The Dark Ride was also another album that I loved Andis voice

@@richgoetz7525 I'm not sure it's far better - if better at all. Halford does some insane things there vocally, no doubt, but he also sounds a bit shaky at times. To me personally there's something about the energy (and the SOUND) of the SB performance that makes it a favorite of mine - it just blows me away every time. But they're both great really.

Helloween was my favourite childhood band. This is a huge nostalgia hit for me. You made me really happy.

Helloween - Keeper of the seven Keys!! One of their best Songs with another singer. The band had/ has 2 singers and I LOVE both but this singer is by far my favorite! He is Michael Kiske. You Need to listen to him. He is the best singer I know… Keep it up and have a great day!

Andi Deris is amazing, he recovered the band after their downfall in a single year, AND his songwriting skills came to reshape Helloween for good, they kept getting better with each next record. HOWEVER, if you want hear his earlier vocal works, check out PINK CREAM 69, their first three albums. Tracks like Signs of Danger, Take Those Tears or One Step into Paradise have plenty of operatic 80s screaming in them.
I love how much power metal you do! Andy Deris has such an amazing voice I feel like he has a really sinister way of singing that fits with the lyrics of Helloween so well.

Andi Deris is one of the few singers that can do multiple styles from cheesy power ballads to epic, speed and thrashy metal songs. Apart from that, he literally saved Helloween when he joined the band, and that is his greatest accomplishment as a musician.

Andi Deris is a great underrated singer... I know... There was a time when his voice used to be not that good but he have probably trained a lot in the last years and he came back stronger than ever!

A song from my favorite Helloween album and it had to be the ballad... Before the War or Kings Will Be Kings would've been a dream come true.
Not gonna lie, excited to see a react to Helloween, bit of a bummer that it's to this song in particular, because I think there are more vocally interesting tracks from any of the singers that have fronted the band (well, okay, mostly from Kiske and Deris). But hey, I'll take what I can get :D
Apropos of nothing, but I think it's very cool that during their Pumpkins United tour (with all three singers that have been part of the band), they did most of the ballads with both Deris and Kiske on the microphone. Really interesting to hear how the two of them approach the songs and how they either lean in or take a step back depending on who is supposed to be the "protagonist" of the song.

@TheMetalGuy852 you just called this channel's owner, actual Vocal Coach, tone-deaf. While I heard nothign but abuse and rudeness to random people from Kiske fans, it's not a surprise. In reality, Michael Kiske never learned to sing in-tune. At all. I don't think he understands the concept of keys, at all. AND he used falsetto for higher notes instead of natural voice. But fanboys have their nostalgia googles and aggressively attack anyone who listens to Helloween from last 25 years.
You may want to try the latest official live version of the song Helloween... Sung by both singers, the original singer, Michael Kiske, and him, Mr Derris.
BTW, you might enjoy Michael Kiske & Amanda Somerville with Silence or If I had A Wish.

I always loved how playful Andi is. His voice is a bit peculiar in my opinion, but he really makes the best out of it. One of my favourite singers in metal for that reason.

I can see you trully loved his tone! I can remember so clearly the first time I heard him too! You shoud check “Why?”, to me he sounds beautiful in this song!
Part of what makes Deris's voice unique is his accent. Its not as much there with Kiske or even Kai (which had a naturally higher voice). I'm somewhat unique I think in that I preferred Kai (being that I am a big fan of his other band, Gamma Ray). But Kiske and Deris were both great but VERY different.
Speaking of Gamma Ray, though it was Kai Hansen's band, he didn't start off singing in the band, their original singer was someone who you are very familiar with....Ralf Scheepers.

In my little opinion Andi Deris is the perfect vocal in the heavy metal history, Dio, Dickinson, Halford, Tate, this guys are gods and have total respect and unique stats on history, but Deris are for me the titan, power, unusual voice in metal stile, diferent tone in low and high notes, strange peformance on stage! That's all for me.
Helloween is the first band I introduce someone that is not into metal, because it is very melodic.

Finally, I love Andi Deris. For some strange reason all reactions about Helloween go back to the Kiske era when the band had a very amateur and experimental sound. After 1994 they went very professional and the whole productions became strong and solid.

Unfortunately that was kind of a disappointing performance from Andi (plus, I feel like Eagle Fly Free, while clearly a Helloween anthem, is one of the Keepers era songs he was always not very comfortable singing).
