My guess would be that the previous owner lit the car on fire because of the blown engine to get insurance money, and then threw away the keyes so they wouldnt find out about the siezed engine 🤷

"that is awful, nahui" is the highest declaration of sadness I've heard in a while.
I know how frustrating this might be when you bet on the car that turns out completely dead. But at least you have garage, plenty of equipment and few lads who don't mind to help you to rebuild that. I mean, it's dead, how could it be worse? Experiment with that, use it to learn something new.
Surely you're the one who's capable to overcome that!

Yes, I have to agree with other posters, I think the fire was an insurance claim to total the car as the engine was blow. But you live and learn, you can be proud of what you have achieved, being a young guy and not having done this before, but what is bad for you unfortunately is interesting viewing for us, so keep your chin up and I’m sure you will smash the engine rebuilding too. 🌟⭐️💫

You're gonna hate me because well I live in Canada and I bought my 2008 335XI which wasn't running but the engine was still good with 185,000 Miles on it. It wasn't running but it was turning over. I bought it off of the guy for $1500. It came with a whole extra winter set of tires which were basically new and once I diagnosed the problem with the car it needed a High pressure Fuel Pump. and a wheel bearing on the front drivers side. Plus lots of maintenance. I sure hope you can figure out the engine trouble! Thank you for the great videos !!

The amount of courage it takes to jump in to a project like this is damned impressive. Don’t ever lose that. I can tell you from working on cars here in the US for 25 years, don’t ever buy a 100k mile European car from here. By the time they hit that mileage, the car is on its third or fourth owner, most Americans do little to no maintenance on their cars and if they do, it’s at the cheapest place possible. I can’t tell you how many VW and Audis I’ve had to rebuild or condemn because of inferior oil/filters being used, cheap spark plugs, low octane fuel being used where high octane is required. Worst part is, they take these cars to aftermarket repair shops, not BMW dealers. Technicians in these shops HATE European cars and do the bare minimum just to get the thing out the door as quick as possible, if they don’t flat out refuse to work on it. But, keep up the good work, and I hope it goes well!

I garantue the engine spun the bearings and them the owner made a small fire for insurance fraud.
But yeah, rebuild the engine. Block might be still OK, and rest of the parts are not difficult to source. Should be quite a few 335i in Lt now from US auctions, getting a crank from those shouldnt be an issue.

I love the videos bro! Ive seen some people free really badly seized engines by putting a mix of penetrating oil, fuel injector cleaner, and sea foam and then letting it sit overnight then try freeing it by hand before taking the mix out of the engine and cranking it over. Hope to see this car be revived 👍

Nice bit of work there! Arthur Tussik would definitely approve! With regards to the damage, man i dunno, theres not much of anything that could catch fire on the left side, if it was the right side it would be a lot more believable, sounds like an insurance job after spinning a bearing, could not possibly just lock up from sitting around... either way, best of luck with this! Im sure you will have a cracking car at the end 😎

Is that a N55 or N54? Those motors are always in some state of being blown and are usually cheap because of that. Different places different prices. I am super impressed with your work especially since you don't have a huge amount of tools and no lift. BTW you need a 86mm 16 flute to take off those oil filter caps.

I find it wierd how the battery and its cable are not burnt at all. The battery is the only high fire risk part in that area, so if it didn't start the fire, what did? Unfortunately, I think the seized engine might be the answer...

    You cannot trust people!Never!
That is why the big guns like Matt Armstrong, Sreten and so on always try to start a wreck to check for engine health before they put a single cent into projects.
I know it's not always possible but they god damn try!
When you're already at that stage you might as well put a 335ì in it.
I know they are more pricey but that would suit that car great, much more than a 4 cylinder..
Anyway, looking forward to seeing this come together..
