  • In this video, I take on the ambitious task of painting my burned BMW 335i. Watch as I meticulously prep the car, from sanding to priming, getting it ready for a fresh coat of paint. I dive into the painting process, aiming for a smooth, professional finish. However, things don't go as planned when I hit a snag with the clear coat application. Despite my best efforts, the final result isn't quite what I envisioned. Join me on this DIY journey filled with hard work, unexpected challenges, and valuable lessons learned along the way.

How far you’ve come. From the days of dropping oil pans on foreheads to respraying a fire damaged 335i. Got balls, lad. It’s been a pleasure watching you on your journey. I am curious to know roughly how much you’ve thrown into her. Keep going, we’ll keep watching.

IMHO the mistake is, too wet. It is correct to start with light coats. Basically a mist with the first one. Then you do more "wet" with each coat. When you remove the "runs" you basically start that spot again, but it is way easier to fill a spot if you missed it while spraying. Also your gun did sound like spitting, not spraying. Edit: didn't cringe, just beginner stuff, you will do better next time.

So exciting to see your very brave project going forward. I was sceptical at first, but you insisted and look what you have already. It must feel so good when the day comes that you can drive this beauty in a shining shape!

not sure how often you use bondo, but if its is often, you should invest in a Multi-Layered Disposable Paper Body Filler Mixing Board. very cheap and makes or work alot easier.

For a first attempt, that’s awesome. Way more patience than I have for body work. Wish I were over there, I’d have you fix the crap paint job on the bumper of the 2018 530i I just bought!😂

I am SO impressed with your incredible Tenacity!!! AWESOME WORK! AWESOME JOB! You are an inspiration to young men and even old men like me!! THANK YOU FOR THE GREAT CONTENT! I LOVE the 355I cars. The N54 engine is a pain and a wonder both! I have one running big power (For me anyway) At over 700 HP! The Torque is INSANE!! Mind you it's modded with 17T ebay turbo's (Been going strong for THREE YEARS NOW! Plus all the mods required to rub that type of power. I've had LOTS of maintenance as I bought the car with 180,000MILES on it and it had been neglected. But I love this thing and it's a keeper for life now!

Always let the clear cote dry before scraping the runs. I scraped my first attempt failure at clear coating when it was still too soft and it ripped the entire layer of clear down to base coat. Always wait, it won’t */run/* away from you any further😅😅😅

as a scale modeller, clear coats are a different animal to tame. Usually I spray a tack coat first, followed by a few lighter coats and finally a few wet coats

Respect for your work. If you don't make mistakes, you can't learn. I use a very similar spray gun (air gunsa az3 hte impact) and i used that clearcoat. If i'm not wrong that clear doesn't need thinner (see dilution chart on istructions). Only clear and hardnener 1:1 and no more runs. That spray gun need more pressure. Generally i work with a 1.4 nozzle with 2.5 bar pressure and all came out nice. I'm not professional painter, only an enthusiast like you

Love your enthusiasm!! The 3-series is the number 1 gangsta car here in Norway, so no wonder it was involved in an insurance scam! No offence, I have an E90 myself👍

I took on a similar job and found out how much work and the correct tools are needed. Check if your compressor has correct CFM for painting as that will have a negative impact on your clear coat. It looks like it came out too wet but otherwise not bad for your first time. Most likely you can get away with wet sanding and polishing most of that. It will be time consuming and a real mission though

Niekam iš pirmo karto nesigauna to lako gerai užpūst, o čia dar ir pusę mašinos iškart. Na bet nieko, visus reikiamus žaislus turi, šiek tiek treniruočių ir kantrybės ir viskas bus ok.

Would it not be better to repaint the entire car? Nonetheless i think you did a great job. In painting a car there will always be issues.
