Awww John Mellencamp will always be special to me because my grandma just LOVED him. I loved the days when she would turn her usual TV programs off and just blast all her favorite music all day. She had good taste in music especially for her age! She even loved AC/DC! When she passed, our family decided to all wear band tshirts because she was all about her music.
I grew up all over, but my hometown will always be Ida Grove, Iowa. "The town with all the castles." Google it and see how cute it is. It still has only one stop light. There's more diversity there these days, but back when I was in grade school and even high school, my brothers and I were the only Native American kids there, there was one white couple that adopted some black kids, one white couple that adopted 2 asian kids and the rest was all white! Of course, all us minorities were instant friends. Even though I grew up in this small town, I was fortunate that my parents moved around a lot and raised us around so many different people. Different races, sexual orientations, rich, poor, young, old, etc. I'll always be a small town Iowan no matter where I end up. I'll always have that humbleness. 🥰

I live in a small town in Missouri. Population about 4,000 . I have lived in smaller communities growing up. My daddy drove logging trucks so we lived in a lot of tiny villages. He worked in huge uranium open pit mines and we lived in trailer parks 50 miles from town. There were 7 kids in my sixth grade class!! Eighth grade thru high school had to ride the bus 50 miles to town and 50 miles home every day. If a blizzard happened they would have to stay with someone in town until they could clear the road ( only 12 miles were paved). I’m 71 and I have a lot of small town stories 👵🏼☮️💜

Much love friend.... your channel has become one of the ones I watch every night after work.... I am a 44 year old woman from a small town in Indiana.... Was a lot smaller when I was growing up and partied in many cornfields and hid from the cops in cornfields growing up hahhaha. A couple years ago I bought my first house across the cornfield from where my parents live to be close to them since my mom had brain cancer. There is NOTHING, NOTHING, NOTHING BETTER than living in a community where everyone knows each other to some extent. I grew up in Brownsburg, IN and moved back to my roots and I know I am blessed...... My 2 boys are grown and gone and it's just me now but I am sooooo blessed to have my little house and land. Sorry..... I was hitting my bowl while typing hahahahhahaa. Side note for anyone who may see this..... I am very pro marijuana but when I had my kids and they started learning about drugs in elementary school I stopped and said I wouldn't smoke again until my kids were grown..... they are grown now and damn it's good to indulge again :)

John Mellencamp specialized in "heartland rock" He was also known as John "Cougar" Mellencamp, which is what I grew up calling him. The nickname was a marketing Strategy mainly because they said his last name wasn't "Cool" enough. 🙄But once he became established, he kept using his last name "John "Cougar" Mellencamp and eventually people just called him by his real name. lol 😆 The things people go through, aye.

Denton Texas ain't no small town no more (3 universities kinda eliminated that small town claim) But you want to know what I loved most about it? The Town square... Old skool as fuck and all four corners were exactly 90° angles with a courthouse in the middle. Bars restaurants record stores comic books tap houses specialty shops you name it is in the Denton Town square and I miss that... St Louis ain't got fuck compared.
Denton also has one of the most beautiful courthouses! My hometown too.. My Daddy is buried at Roselawn with many kinfolks so I go up several times a year. Gotta go get a Black cow at Mr. Frosty's! 🤣👍❤️
