This is my son and my favorite song. Him 3 years old , me recently divorced, feeling low, he wanted to hear this song over and over and wanted this newly single father to dance with him over and over. Lol. He's 23 now but we still talk about it. Brings tears to my eyes. Thank you.
If that fiddle/violin note after the pause doesn't send chills up and down your spine, you're not human. This song is pure gold. Absolutely my very favorite Mellencamp song. Completely universal, just the truth of the human experience.
Please check his song Rain on the Scarecrow! It's about the plight of family farmers. He is one of the founders of Farm Aid, which is an annual concert series that raises money for small family farms.
Another great reaction! I love that you always appreciate the old music. I grew up in the 70s and 80s and we had some of the greatest music. Definitely check out Rain On The Scarecrow
Check out some Farm Aid performances going back to 1985. So many great artists and performances. Holding your lighter up goes back to the mid 70’s at least. I don’t remember a lot from those days but I recall all the concerts I went to and we all had lighters, whether we smoked or not. I’m not sure when it started or why. Other than venues were dark and everyone had lighters.
We were doing the lighters at the concerts from at least when I was going in the mid 70s! So cool to see this music moves you bro, I’ll mos-def be back for your musical journey! Keep it eclectic man! 👊🎉🍻

i think the "lighter" thing was from asking to an encore after they would shut the lights off the fans would re-light the stadium with lighters.

John Mellencamp.. legendary
Mellencamp has so many great songs. Saw him live, and he and the band were tight as hell.
I was there! Old Market Square Arena is gone now, but man, the memories of concerts and basketball games there will never fade.

Steve Earl, "Copperhead Road". You would LOVE it!
Great one Michael!! And Sceez, the "shaker" things the backup singer is holding are called maracas.

Fantastic artist, great song.
This is my favorite Mellencamp song, by far.
Mellencamp is like a nice warm bowl of Mac and cheese.
I was in juvie detention when this came out. Locked up! But I loved this song for sure. It helped me feel peace, during some rough times. ^_^
I really enjoyed your reaction
The shaker things are called moraccas.
