Hi man. Would you be able to do a video to show us how to calculate or how to know what the torque limit of the connecting rods are in our engines. I'm in Sweden and to forge the engine is very expensive, it is acutely more expensive than replacing the engine almost 3 times if a disaster happens. The thing is that nobody really knows how much power the connecting rods can handle in my Mitsubishi Colt Ralliart it comes stock with 150bhp but I have tuned it to 270hp and about 30% more torque. I can pushing it more but like i said, I dont know how much the rods can handle and I don't want to break the engine and still have fun. Is there any way of knowing this. There is no such info/data in any document from Mitsubishi. I know you work mainly with VW but it would be a very interesting video. Thanks

Some hours later on our way home, my brother was driving.... FLASH! xD We all forgot about the newly build speed camera. ^^
"Officer, I saw you on the way in and you looked bored, so I thought I'd give you a chance to hit that gas pedal and wind it up for a minute. I know you guys gotta love that torque." - got me out of a 15-over ticket last year. ...either that or it was the reckless driver call he got while standing at my window - ya' think?
I've gotten out of an 81 in a 65 ticket before for that exact reason. I wasn't even on the throttle for the entire mile before I saw him. Gotta love them old Taurus sedans lol And I allowed a local cop to play with his brand new V8 Durango police unit by doing 56 in a 45. of course they also know me and my car well enough they don't tend to give me too much trouble.
The reason for the noticeable throttle closure is due to the supercharger itself. Before supercharger, when you let off the throttle, you only had the stock motor and accessories continuing to pull on the motor with no fuel being added. Superchargers are, as you know, run off the motor so now you have a much harder negative draw on the motor when the fuel is cut off. You are still going from 1% fuel to zero, but instead of having a "negative 140hp draw" when the fule stops, there is a negative "160hp" draw. I know I am making up these numbers, but this point is still the same. I'm glad you are enjoying the ups and the downs!
The throttle issues you've described from 6:15 onward illustrates a great example of why tuning is important with upgrades like this. I've had the opportunity to learn the workings of torque based engine management in my Audi (ME7.5) and its a complex system especially how the drivers torque request is placed through several tables to ultimately be met by the engine. You are right it's not a linear 1:1 and there's a lot more to throttle that calibration engineers have to deal with. I can at attest to OEM applications with torque based engine management that beyond drivers wish (torque requested) that there are situations where the ECU is trying to manage the air flow into the engine to meet additional parameters calibrated to maintain optimal engine torque at low and high speed that have to be tweaked especially in your application. I really would enjoy to learn about what Mazda has implemented in their engine management because if it's a Bosch based ECU this is a very fixable issue you describe it just takes time.
@@kevink2315 Without a datalog I could only speculate. My immediate thought is sudden release of torque due to clutch disengagement and throttle responding slowly to change in torque demand. Some vehicles in my example VW/Audi have a switch to tell the ECU when disengagement is happening and prevent the REVs from dropping quickly and furthering driver comfort while shifting. This implementation has a failure mode though where if the switch were faulty you can get observe rev hangs in light to moderate gear changes. I'd suggest he datalog with variables related to engine rpm, engine load actual & desired, throttle position, throttle plate angle, and if there are any variables available to log clutch coupling (if applicable).
@@stevenbryant4718 one to one ratio ; as in for percent drivers throttle position is 1 increment percent throttle valve position. If you were to look at this in regard to a 2D table it would be a slope of 1/1 (one over one).

Thanks

I floored the car from 2nd to 3rd at 3k and there was an entire group of cops right around the corner, the car was pulling real hard 😂 in 5 secs i was surrounded by cops. they asked what the hell i was doing and i tried to explain the best i could and they "kinda" understood, one of them knew my dad, so i guess that was what saved my ass.

Well we aren't in the Dark ages, and our understanding of physiology and medicines have come a long way, Unfortunately a lot of "data" in medicine is built on the aggregation of many examples of anecdotal evidence.

And I allowed a local cop to play with his brand new V8 Durango police unit by doing 56 in a 45. of course they also know me and my car well enough they don't tend to give me too much trouble.

lol indeed, he opened the flood gates
"(This nice young man must be running late for choir practice.) You've been warned nerd, on your way."
congratulations, your MX5 now has enough power to break the speed limit!
That cop was super cool though for not ticketing you. That was hilarious 😂
I really would enjoy to learn about what Mazda has implemented in their engine management because if it's a Bosch based ECU this is a very fixable issue you describe it just takes time.
linear = 1:1? When did that happen?
Any idea why the ecu would blip the throttle for the 1st-2nd shift a low load & rpm ? I only do that with down shifts.
