She knows alphabets in ASL from the book she bought but can't make a full sentences using ASL. But thankfully our family and even our neighborhood can read her lips well so we can still communicate. But look at you! You are so empowered! You are not backed down by YOUR own disabilities, leaving full sentence comments on youtube regardless of your mental....difficulties. You did such a good job.
      Now dont bark at me, here's a treat, a cookie. Good girl.

      krist0pher I have type one diabetes and I can do everything a normal person can do except produce insulin and yet I still am considered to have a disability by amusement parks and airlines. If I want I can apply to get a pass to skip lines and board the plane before everyone else. If diabetes is considered a disability without me being offended, I don’t understand what the problem with being deaf being considered a disability. My uncle is deaf and he takes advantage of it and has gotten upgrades on flights because of it.

    • @awesomelyathena7147
      @awesomelyathena7147 4 роки тому +75

      It has evolved over time, just like spoken language has! Flip the question and ask, “Who chose the words for us to speak in English, ‘I’m good. How are you?’” Same question can be asked for Spanish, French, German, etc. All these languages evolved naturally! As for the origins of American Sign Language in particular a lot of it if from LSF (French Sign Language), and Martha’s Vineyard (an island where an overwhelming amount of the population was deaf, and everybody communicated in sign). The two sort of merged together, and over time Americans have modified signs to make them their own!

    • @NotMykl
      @NotMykl 4 роки тому +9

      Different countries have different signs American Sign Language, British Sign Language, Spoken Sign Language, French Sign, Spanish Sign, Military Sign and etc. Jessica Kelgren-Fozard has a video on the differences between American and British SL.
      You could always Google the origins of sign language.

    • @conniewilliamson973
      @conniewilliamson973 4 роки тому +41

      What a lot of people don't know is that sign language (at least ASL) is not a literal translation of English. It's a separate language with its own grammar, which is part of what makes it so interesting and beautiful.
