He really was fun, and had a charming confidence and southern gentlemanliness about him while still being a bit cheeky. And he was pretty easy on the eyes.
Orson Bean becomes the 21st MG celebrity to score a head-to-head match! This was his first attempt. The other 20 are the regulars (Richard, Brett, Charles) plus (in alphabetical order): Morey Amsterdam, Jack Carter, Bert Convey, Bill Daily, Ann Elder, Fannie Flagg, Stu Gilliam, Carolyn Jones, Jack Klugman, Michael Landon, June Lockhart, Jo Ann Pflug, Madlyn Rhue, Loretta Switt, Richard Thomas, Bobby Van, and Betty White. *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 162, excluding the lost/missing episodes 31, 32, 33.
But he had something in his mouth in every show. Please tell me it's not chaw or snuff, and then he kisses the girls. That would be disgusting. But, I agree otherwise . . .
small error in the trivia question....Jack Klugman was already doing "The Odd Couple" when he first appeared on MG...it was "Quincy" that was the later series that he starred in....
Now I know it was Klugman's fault that Somers is on the show. I get so tired of the way she constantly tries to get the camera on her. When it's her turn to give her answer she always makes a big production out of it. When it's not her turn she still keeps talking.
It is not, although I can't cite earlier ones off the top of my toupee. Oh-wait-during Greg Morris' first appearance (later that "week", earlier this season) there was one, but I don't think it was the first-it's just one I remember clearly.
Me too. And there's another episode with a guy named Ronald that Fannie went crazy over. He was a nice looking man. And so is Donald. He looks like Kurt Russell.
was Don the first contestant to win the $5,000 Match Up twice? maybe the guy... I think Sue Yannick was the first person to win the $5,000 match up TWICE...
ROFL! Another fine episode! ;0) ROFL! Love ya Gene! ;0) ROFL! Love ya Charles! ;0) ROFL! Love ya Betty! ;0) Teddy Bear.. rug.. football?? Betty, Orson and Charles beat Richard! ;0) Notice that the technical problems never bother Gene to go and tape the show.. Gene just went with them and carry on.. ;0)
I get the impression that they didn't have a huge budget for the Match Game set. The Audience Match board did not exactly use state-of-the-art technology, did it? It wasn't even 1974-state-of-the-art. There was somebody inside that revolving wall pulling the covers out of each slot.
I am SOOOOOOO glad he didn't pick Saint Richard in the supermatch. I hate SO MUCH the Richard gets it wrong SO many times and yet most people still pick him KNOWING he would probably get it wrong. They'd rather pick him than win the game (figure THAT one out)! And Beverly looks a bit like Angela from Boy Meets World
God....... get OVER IT who cares how you HATE Richard the truth is he was the most popular on the show. And you hate the truth!!! Truth is people didnt like Brett cause she was as very annoying... just read the comments on this page about what people say about brett.
@@lynskyrd78 Even though I don"t care for Brett, Richard was not the most popular star on this show, that was Gene because he kept the show going & he more funnier that Brett or Ruchard
Richard's been successful 29.6% of the time. Orson Bean is now batting 1.000, but only because this was his first time being picked (only his 2nd week on the panel I think).
I remember watching the Exorcist as a little kid and honestly I didn’t find it scary in the least... But it seriously turned me off to guacamole for a LONG time 🤢
I love this guy, he made himself at home, kissing and hugging everyone
He really was fun, and had a charming confidence and southern gentlemanliness about him while still being a bit cheeky. And he was pretty easy on the eyes.

I wonder if DONALD ever got that Sports Promotion going !! He definitely has that 70's Sports Promoter look !!
Don is def. one my top 3 favorite contestants ever
I really like Donald. He brings a nice, gentlemanly, well-mannered fun to the gameplay.
Looks a little light in the loafers
But he had something in his mouth in every show. Please tell me it's not chaw or snuff, and then he kisses the girls. That would be disgusting. But, I agree otherwise . . .

That contestant was clever AND cute! 👏🏻😘😝
Lol, Orson sniffing the markers.
This dude seemed like a class act.
He was quite the diplomat. When asked who was the best kisser, he evaded answering.
Don won $11,000.00 in 1974 money ! Equivalent to: $57,500.00 in 2020 money value !
Legend has it he bought a Vega and a microwave, then drove to Vegas in his Vega and blew the rest on hookers and roulette
He was adorable- running around kissing and hugging the panelists!! 😂🎉😂
Wow he sure has won a lot of money! He's kinda cute I like his axint
This is the kissiest game I’ve ever seen! LOL
Could never be done today.
@@MensAsses33 Yeah... we usually suck them off
@@MensAsses33Of course it could.
Remember Richard on Family Feud?
Don is a wonderful contestant but he did get two pretty easy $5000 questions. Oil blank and Play the blank.
Don has class
Don is a hoot.
Very rare to have Orson to go head-to-head with a contestant and help him win $5K. RIP Orson and Godspeed.
That was his Orsons first attempt, actually
Teddy Bear is always a good answer. :)
and Gene's 'wait till you get your own theater' line was the match that lit the spark lol

that's right
@@byte01010101me : I agree - yes, it's his fault
LOL @ Brett for complaining about someone giving a long explanation for their answer!!! Pot...Kettle...Black.
You are spot on ‼️‼️‼️
Great episode 💕
!!! "Rain Barrel" Fabric Softener as part of the consolation prize...wow...
I've never heard of that brand.
First "Howard Cosell blank" question? I don't remember any before this episode.

Don reminds me of Beau Bridges. Anyone else?
Reminds me of a young Peter Cetera when he was with Chicago
Yes - a combo of Beau and Jeff with a touch of Lloyd
4:19 Lol! _"It's a well-known German sportscaster-Herr Piece."_
Big mouth Brett!!
Yes‼️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Irritated the crap out of me 😠
Panelists:
1. Orson Bean
2. Brett Somers
3. Charles Nelson Reilly
4. Ann Mobley
5. Richard Dawson
6. Betty White
This is a great group of panelists. Sure Brett is a bit talky… but all in all a respectable bunch.
21:37 Lol! Betty didn't hesitate to start taking it off.
(She's wearing a blazer over a turtleneck, but it's the thought that counts. 😉)
I've remembered Orson Bean and the Gaboon viper (that bites you in the gaboon) since 1974 (but i'd guess I heard the bit on Merv Griffin).
It's also a running joke with him on TTTT.
Don was lucky, he got the easy questions
I believe Orson got marker ink underneath his right nostril. Does anyone else see it, too?

What was the card they held over his head when he won? Just wondering..

geez - Brett talks too damn much
Yes she does & almost always has to have Gene repeat the questions 😠
7:45 " Klugman later found success in the Odd Couple."WTF?
OC began 3 yrs before MG. It would be wise to double check your research
How the hell did Brett have wreath?
It used to be standard practice to put a black wreath or a wreath with black ribbon on your house door(s) to indicate the family was in mourning.
Because it was the obvious answer!
Squeak when you squat
Are we sure Beverly wasn't in Mad Men. She got the Valentines Day flowers Peggy thought were hers when they weren't.
PING!
Orson gave me the willies
No one gives a flying hoot
And yet nobody cares about your opinion about Orson
Many of us love Orson.
if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all!
Man, I love Gene, but he has to chill. He's going too far with Mary Ann Mobley
As he did with ALL the pretty ladies 😳
Brett is always so negative!!
Gene Rayburn was so sleazy
