Another tip: leg extension for efficient pedalling. This is important because if you have your seat too low and try to pedal a lot, you will damage your knees. Of course, this is irrelevant if you only ever use the throttle, but if you live in very hilly areas and use your bike for commutes, you will need to get better range out of the battery than what throttle-only riding can provide. Plus, bicycles are meant to be pedalled. It just feels good. Here's how you set your seatpost hight correctly. Position your bike next to a wall so you can sit on the saddle while stationary. Next, place the HEEL of your foot on the pedal. Make sure the pedal is at its lowest point in its rotation. Now adjust the seat height so that your leg is almost straight, with only a slight bend at the knee. Doing this with your HEEL on the pedal is important. This is because when you are pedalling normally, it's actually the MIDDLE to FRONT portion of your foot that's on the pedal. And in this position, there will be a slight bend at your knees when your pedal stroke is at its lowest point. And that's what you want. Don't worry about having a high seatpost being supposedly dangerous when coming to a stop. As you are about to stop, you should stand up on the pedals and slide your body forward so that you are positioned between the seat and the handlebars. In one smooth motion, you swing your foot out and step down onto the ground. A motorcyclist at a stop shouldn't look like a bicyclist at a stop: the former is sitting, while the latter is standing. The only people who need the seat low (to be able to touch the ground with their feet while sitting on the saddle) are folks who, for whatever reason, have mobility issues.
First, THANK YOU!!! This is one of the best tutorials I've yet seen. I got a lectric step-thru 2.0 for Christmas, and have been reading the manual, watching the tutorials, but yours addressed ALL my questions. I was very badly injured several years ago (hit by a car while jogging), and I've tried to use a regular bike, but the pain in my hip, lumbar spine, etc. (I feel like a broken model kit), made it impossible. The step-thru feels liberating rather than daunting now that I've seen this tutorial. I think I'll wait a bit before I update the speed profile, though. Thank you doesn't go far enough.
Good tips. I would add to start off with short rides until you get the seat and handlebars adjusted to your comfort spot. I watched several of your videos before buying my Lectric XP 2.0. I have about 35 miles on it now and enjoy it more each time I ride it.
These were excellent tips Chris.I take advantage of all the features on my Lectric. I’m always switching between gears and pas settings from 0-5 depending on the situation. I keep my chain and derailleur cleaned, oiled and adjusted about every 300 miles just to keep it running and shifting smooth.
We generally ride our dirt/gravel rural Kansas roads in PAS 2 and gear 6/7. My wife and I are both at 800+ miles on our bikes. I have cleaned/"oiled" them once-have never had to adjust anything...and our road conditions are rough and challenging in many regards.
One suggestion I have for new E bike riders is to take it to a place like a large school parking lot (on weekends) and get comfortable just riding back and forth making gentle turns and using PA 1 or 2 only with and without throttle. E bikes like 3.0 are heavier that what regular bike riders are used to and the smaller tires and different seating position take some getting used to. I would suggest 2 - 4 short rides less than 30 minutes over the course of a week or two to develop a feel for how to handle the bike in different situations. If you are in a safe area (not on a street) practice doing slaloms (zig zags back and forth) this will help you brain learn the feel of the bike. This is why I recommending up to a two week “learning person”. A E bike can be a fantastic benefit for older riders that cannot ride conventional bikes as well and for them the step through is the best choice - don’t be put off thinking they look like “girls bikes”. If you are able to test ride both types you’ll see why.
The only saftey thing I would like to say is that if you have the step through the pedal is about an inch lower and if you turn with that side down you will scrap and crash, ive done it 3 times. Wish they would have put shorter cranks on to compensate. Lift that leg up on whatever side you turn to and you wont crash and burn.
This is correct - when you shift gears while stopped you are putting extra strain on the cable and derailleur. Then you are crunching your cassette when pedaling begins. I literally cringed when I saw the section of the video where the host pushed the shifter down to 3, then started pedaling. That crunching sound is damaging the cassette. This is a concern with electric bikes because the motors can prematurely wear down the teeth on the cassette in normal operation. This "Tip" only exacerbates that problem.
Great videos Chris, I think another safety tip to remind people of is do not take a corner with the pedal in the bottom position.IE: never turn right with the right pedal in the lowest position of rotation in case the pedal clips the ground and flips you off your bike. Same thing applies when turning left.
great job explaining everything. great video. thanks again by the way, i ordered a 11-34 sprocket for my 2.0 XP. can't wait to get that installed. should help with the hills and pedal assist
Never change gears without pedaling. If you change the gears while sitting still, as soon as the bike starts to move, the gear will jump and strain it...
Great video, we ride our Lectric bikes in P09 at setting 0(throttle active from standstill) and P10 at 1(pedal assist inactive and throttle active) exclusively. This seems to give us the best control over our speed and pedal resistance in different situations and conditions. We have some friends eagerly awaiting the delivery of their Lectric bikes, I will definitely be sharing this video with them.

I'm a new Lectric rider, and I turned P9 to 1 (throttle disabled) because I kept turning the handle by mistake, like when I was just adjusting my grip. Suddenly the bike just moves and I'd feel like I was on a bucking bronco. LOL. The PAS levels are fine for me. I don't have much trouble starting the bike at all; I start it like I'd start my regular bike. But the tip about using it when needing to cross the street quickly ... hmm that sounds useful.
Good video Chris. Just to give you a suggestion. If you go back and review your video you hear the chain grinding as it is changing gears on the derailer. What you are doing is called dryshifting. Shifting without the bike being in motion. When shifting have the bike moving, shift and ease up on the pedal pressure. Your shifts will be smoother and will reduce wear on gears and derailer. Good luck
Also, avoid using the pedals while doing a U-turn. When you press on the pedals while attempting to do a U-turn, power is sent to the drive motor giving the bike excess acceleration, and can really throw the rider to an unbalanced situation resulting in a fall. Speaking from experience. Thanks for the helmet I saved myself from a head injury.

Pretty much the same ideas for the Lite except you cant unlock and there are no gears. In my XP Lite review video i show how easy it is to ride without power.
Why do you start in gear 3? I would never attempt to take of in a 5-speed vehicle in 3rd gear. Just like in the car, starting in anything but 1st gear will cause you to work harder to get going.

We purchased this Vivi 27.5” electric bike and a Tentaquil 26” electric bike for our 13 and 14 year olds. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxUiL0GnyDjP32RJdd660sP8mZk4CRLTCJ The Vivi was much easier to put together. With the Vivi, there was a video link to assist with assembly which made the process easier to follow (we did put the handlebars on upside down, but it was a quick and easy fix). With the Tentaquil, the assembly was not as simple to follow, but after we messaged the company for an assembly video, it was easier and they did respond quickly. The other major differences were that the Vivi has a grip throttle on the right handle (like a motorcycle) and the Tentaquil has a push throttle that you use your thumb to activate. The monitors were also different, so if you’re looking for something specific in terms of changing the bikes functions, pay attention to what the monitor offers. We were really impressed with the overall quality and functionality of both bikes, but if you’re looking for more power and an easier assembly, definitely go with the Vivi!
Very good tips, wish you had done the video before I fell down on mine. But honestly, I fell only when I came to a stop, saddle was too high for my legs cause I wanted full leg extension. Big mistake on my part.
Lol that happened to me also. Came to a stop because my kid stopped in front of me.When I went to scooch off the seat i my shorts got stuck and I flopped right over into a bush. I was looking around embarrassed to see if anyone saw. I now keep my seat much lower. Plus it handles better with a lower center of gravity. I’m still have a lot of fun on my original xp

@@danimayb this is incorrect. Your legs are supposed to be at full extension for efficient pedalling. If they aren't, you will damage your knees. This doesn't apply if you don't pedal. But many riders do pedal to get better range. And afterall, it is a bicycle. They're meant for pedalling. Takes longer to get all the packing material off than to set up the bike and ride. Read the owners manual first to avoid mistakes and aggravation. After a couple short rides you can find the most comfortable position for handlebars and seat. Bike is heavy so throttle is great to help get bike rolling. You like you are tall is the bikes setting big enough for 6 ft tall person it looks like it is
Yeah Im six foot and fit fine, though I prefer to ride ebikes with 20x4 tires because they sit a little higher.
I wish you demonstrate one for XP Lite, I would appreciate it.
Pretty much the same ideas for the Lite except you cant unlock and there are no gears. In my XP Lite review video i show how easy it is to ride without power.
@@ChrisCrossed Many thanks!
Why do you start in gear 3? I would never attempt to take of in a 5-speed vehicle in 3rd gear. Just like in the car, starting in anything but 1st gear will cause you to work harder to get going.
Ebikes are heavy so a lower gear makes it easy for that initial launch. I just use the throttle though
It’s a ~60lb bike, not a 6000lb car. You could ride the bike exclusively in the highest gear including when getting started with no ill effects
Are you able to sit upright on that bike, I mean, like you can on a Dutch bike?
For the most part yes, you could add swept back handlebars for a more upright position if you need to.
What brand is your bike rack bag
Rock Bros amzn.to/3gNtFxD
Love mine but the battery is dead . And tore my hamstring and Need a step through.
Bummer:-(
Yo anyone know where that music from???🤔
It’s a file inside of iMovie
where did you get thoes handlebar grips
those are the old grips from the 2.0
@@ChrisCrossed i had a question then if i loosened the throttle and moved it back closer to the display could i put on a regular size grip on the throttle side
lol great video loved all the shots of your feet rofl
My gear shift is stuck on 7. What do I do?
Sounds like the derailiure is out of alignment. I would take it to a bike shop. Take the battery out before you bring to them.
I assume I need to charge the battery when I first get it.....
They usually come about 50% charged out of the box
How long did it take to get
Not long 8-10 days
@@360woodierc But don't you knees hurt after a while?
@@pedrofernandez8729 Your leg should be almost fully extended. You should be able to touch the ground easily. This is true on any bike. ua-cam.com/video/qKPNGGCyw7k/v-deo.html
@@pedrofernandez8729 no not at all. It’s an ebike
With that said, there is no reason that having a high seatpost should be dangerous when coming to a stop.
Not one video shows someone unbox it turn it on and just a ride simple settings they all make it seem complicated I'm waiting for my bike
Most ebike newbies need all the deets. Just unbox, charge and ride.
Nothing to it-almost literally.
Takes longer to get all the packing material off than to set up the bike and ride. Read the owners manual first to avoid mistakes and aggravation. After a couple short rides you can find the most comfortable position for handlebars and seat. Bike is heavy so throttle is great to help get bike rolling. Experiment with throttle assist levels and gearing, both have a major effect on ride comfort. I bought a 1.0 two years ago and just upgraded to a 3.0 .
I wish they had more gears to shift like 2 more haha
I find 7 to be enough
Beware, I ordered mine back on May 8th. Still hasn't even shipped. They got my money 💰 for over two month. After a half a dozen emails, they still can't give me a shipping date. Time or even were I am in line. Very upset with lectric right now. 😡
That’s unusual what’s the reason?
It's pretty common now that they're popular. Took 3 months for my 3.0. Customer service sucks too. Must say it's the best bike compared to others.
@@GrantGeeGrantyup it takes a while for people that Pre-Order the bikes but luckily I just ordered a 3.0 yesterday and it’s already getting ready to ship cuz I ordered while in stock..so can’t wait for it to get here..I got the comfort package with it along with cargo package and elite headlight and water bottle holder
WHAT'S IN THE BAG
the charger, some tools, etc
I just cried a bit when you shifted without pedaling. So sad.
Lol, just doing it for demonstration purposes.
@@ChrisCrossed But why would you demonstrate an incorrect technique? You should never shift without pedaling.
@@Anton4 just a mistake wasn’t intentional
@@Anton4 after unlocking speed to go max speed I noticed immediately on throttle only it does not accelerate past 17 mph or so. Do you know if that is as it should be?
Those sidewalk-free streets make me sad.
Typically the legs is where you’ll feel it.
This looks like a tutorial for old people who have never riden a bike in their life or maybe only occasionally in grade school.
Its an ebike 101 vid, lots of older ppl are the main riders of ebikes
Ummm, stop signs and other vehicle control signs are for bicycles, too. A bicycle IS a vehicle .

The latest in my saga it took months for the parts the repair guy wanted over $300 in repair and storage fees I told keep the bike If this is what getting service is. I made a $1000 mistake I admit it because that is what people with "a brain and some character do" I urge you not to make the same mistake

HERE`S THE LATEST DO NOT BUY THIS BIKE mine stopped function after 220 miles Dave from customer service say he wont send me the part until I can tell him what parts are needed Seems like that mean if you are not a bike mechanic you cannot get customer service so if you are a bike mechanic disregard this message I gave him the number at the bike shop lets see if he is going to sit on it until I call or do the right thing stay tuned ALL Sales ARE FINAL AND THIS IS YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE AS WE SAY IN LATIN CAVEAT EMPTOR (LET THE BUYER BEWARE)
Good grief. Buy a brain and some character. What the hell would you send if you were the company???
@@mkwy8782 I would say take it to a repair shop and send the me the bill if I were a company with "a brain and some character"
Best tip, don't buy one in the first place.
I found out they are not fully water resistant. Their are hidden holes underneath the bottom frame. Water can get inside the frame and under the inside of the seat post and water can get inside where the control box is.
The display is water resistant but yes there are a few hole for wires underneath.
@@ChrisCrossed that means water can get inside the frame.
Unless your riding through massive puddles its not a big deal, you can always cover up the hole with some waterproof tape if that worries you.
@@ChrisCrossed I don't have that bike anyway
