    I haven't ever taken the starter out of my 940 but I recall that the solution to the top bolt was to join number of extensions together so the ratchet handle is back near the back of end of the gear box. It's long but it's still effective at loosening a bolt.

      I heard about that on a forum, might give it a shot next time

    I have to give it to you. After two days and my bottom bolt not moving I have given up. Luckily my starter still sounds OK for now

    I've been burned on used parts and gotten lucky on used parts! You never know how long it'll hold up! I'd say let it be until it fails.
    Have you considered taking it apart and cleaning it up and replacing the solenoid on your old starter? I don't know if they make rebuild kits for them, but I would be amazed if someone didn't!

    • @Involvod
      @Involvod  2 роки тому +2

      It cost me €10 so I can't be surprised 😀 I didn't think about rebuilding either, if it needed a tap to get going meaning it needed a clean/new bushes I would have, but it will be a bit more than that, but now you've suggested it I think I'll take the old one apart and see what's up with it, why not! Thanks dude

      @@Involvod go check out Coldwarmotors channel, he deals with mostly 50's American cars but the starter rebuild would be very similar.

    Oooh turning up in the Skandix box..... 🔔🔔🔔🔔 What a cheeky bugger! Did he say in the listing that he'd replaced it? Hopefully it's alright while you get the car sorted out 👍

      😂 No, just that it worked, which is true 😃 Exactly that, good enough for now is good enough for me, a new one is €120 so I'll be glad to save that expense for now

    The notchy drive in that Starter motor is not good should be smooth with pressure if its notchy there's a chance the drive will slip as the surface drops into the worn roller surface.
    Those Bosch starters are well known for the plastic gear track to wear and the internal bushes on the 3 gears inside and that causes a screeching noise

    Next time maybe a good idea to test the 'new' starter before installing it. Use some jumper cables and hook those up to 12V . bridge the solenoid to the red 12V+ cable. That way you can see and hear it work outside of the car.
    Also, make SURE you clean ALL connections of corrosion and don't forget the ground strap between block and body/battery.
    It makes a LOT of sense because a 1200 Watt starter motor pulls 100(!)Amps at 12V. Any resistance in a connection will become a problem. If the starter motor is even stronger, like 2400Watt, the Amps will be even higher (200!Amps) at 12V.

    Earlier this year I removed the starter on my 140 to clean it up and give it a fresh coat of black paint as its quiet prominent in the engine bay. Easy job say me, I'll have it out, cleaned, painted and back in before lunch.... hours later and I'm still on my back under the car battling to get a grip on the back back of the top bolt... it almost broke me and brought me to tears but perseverance and a modified bendy ring spanner won in the end. Of course dropping the transmission like you did might have been easier, i will keep it in mind for next time.

      Fair play to you mate I know that feeling, these cars give us a false sense of security that jobs will be easy 😅 After doing this I jumped online and saw that most struggle with the top bolt, so it's not just us!
