Red Deer Hunting in Otago Tussock Country (We Couldn't Believe What We Found!)

  • We spent 3 days hunting some Otago high country looking for red deer. The aim for the trip was some venison for the freezer but as always we were after a red stag for the wall. Watch along as we camp in some epic country, spot plenty of animals and even lay eyes on a few surprise animals!

    Epic. Lived in Dunedin 20+ years and only just decided to get into hunting. This vid makes me even more excited to do so. Awesome vid, great stuff

      Very popular spot. Good idea locking it i say.

      More for what we left in it than the truck itself! Never know who might be out and about, Chris had a window smashed in at a trailhead once before!

      @@southislandriflewalkers5545 Always been a % of scumbags out there doin' it, and whether there are more getting around or the % has gone up (suspect the latter) or both, precautions are needed more than ever. In huts etc as well, the attitude of many seems to be less cooperative & honest than past times, social media activism etc doesn't help.

      It's a leupold vx freedom- in it's defense it's had a bloody hard life getting dragged through the shit! Comes with a good warranty as well, just got it back all fixed. Fair enough though mate, we weren't impressed!

    Just watched it again an enjoyed it just as much as the first time
    But i gota ask, what the guts with the loose plastic bag on the end of the barrel? .... not just to keep shit out instead of insulation tape is it, or is there some cunning reason and dual purpose lol
    Looks like ya first aid kit needs a surgical needle an some thread Smiley lol

      The bags just to keep shit out, because of the muzzle break the tape doesn't quite cover it

    So many pests there. Needs more huntrs in there to get the numbers down, or get a chopper cull operation going.

    so you take the backstraps last?

    • @southislandriflewalkers5545
      @southislandriflewalkers5545  2 роки тому

      Yeah I've found it easier and means you can get the whole backstrap without having to cut under the legs. Works well when the terrain lets you!

    • @TaralgaBushAdventure
      @TaralgaBushAdventure 2 роки тому

      I'm usually by myself, so need to use the legs folded to keep the torso upright for the backstrap first, otherwise with no legs she rolls over. But I do understand about having the legs off would get a longer access.
