Do you think climbers who leave others behind to save themselves should be celebrated or condemned?

I’m not sure about the word ‘celebrated’ being used here, but that’s a decision only the individual climber can make in the heat of the moment…and that moment doesn’t last long. You’re already gambling your life to begin with and to intentionally put in place other variables to save a climber, now you’ve compounded your chances of NEVER leaving the mountain. No sense in stacking any more dead bodies like cord wood than absolutely necessary. These climbers make the conscious decision to prep the best they can to climb Everest or any other mountain…you better be ready best you can to handle hurdles when things go south…you get one shot. Self preservation usually kicks in to high gear when you’re in an environment like Everest I’m sure, ‘cause second chances don’t come knocking too often on that mountain.

I don’t think they should be judged either way! We don’t really know how we would react until we were in that situation! Easy for us to judge sitting at home warm and comfortable.

If they aren’t being paid to lead a group. No it’s not their responsibility to make sure someone gets off the mountain. The unspoken rule is self preservation.

So only 800 (2%) of the 40,000 climbers make it past base camp and 456 (57% ) make it to the summit with 5 (1%) not making it back, That's like a little over 1% success rate of 40,000 climbers that complete their dream... Really make me realize how hard it really is. I'll pass...

I can’t let this pronunciation go. It’s the western cwm pronounced “coom”, not the western “CWM”.

Thank you! I thought it was coom, that's the way I've always read it, I thought maybe I'd messed up the pronunciation. Funny how little things can pick at you.

If there's a more selfless climber than Dan Mazur, who has gone to the rescue of so many other climbers, I've yet to hear of him.
Going to the aid of Lincoln Hall meant that Mazur and his clients had to give up their summit attempt just a couple of hours short of the top, after several weeks of intense effort just to get there.
Mazur deserves recognition for his services to high altitude climbing. Much respect from this Aussie.

I do not think it is brave to climb to the top of the mountain and lose your life it is brave to stay away and prolong your life with
    many years.

Ok so it’s NOT just me… I thought it was a re upload or re edit you see often but I believe you’re right.. this could even be a straight up ripoff! What a shame! I’d rather support independent human ran channels on Mt. Everest which there are plenty of!
