    Thanks,, for sharing! I really appreciate that you were able to break it down and keep it simple without over-explaining where one's eyes start to glaze over! Great job and if you do not mind I would like to share this with those that my team is needing to connect into their freq. during a disaster or S.A.R. by using your direct video it will give you all of the credit you deserve! This will fry your radio. Many have tried this. It doesn't work very well and forces the transmit to stay on

      Good!
      Another relatively easier way is using Zello in handphone and walkie talkie.
      Both end using extension mic/ear piece and VOX, mic to ear at opposite end device, it is easier to set VOX levels, delay and holding time.
      It will be even better using some of the China made walkie talkies which has receive tail suppressions like commercial radios, that is, end of transmissions are clean cut silence !

    Clever tutorial. One suggestion would be to add a battery eliminator to the TYT radio so that it can run 24/7 off of mains power rather than shutting off when the battery is exhausted.

    • @radiosification

      Yeah, that could be done. This tutorial didn't take into account things like that but someone could definitely add that to their setup. Thanks for the comment.

    Hi, excellent video. I'll be setting this up in Australia. We have UHF CB 476.425-477.4125 80 channels 12.5kc seperation. We also have repeaters (16 channels). Power is 5w. I actually own a repeater GRF08 and will set up Zello for some black spots and local Rural Fire Service can use the phones through the repeater. Will also link another repeater VMD2 to cover wide area.
    One thing I notice about this method is that the impedance from the radio ext speaker and into the laptop mic input is critical in getting it working, you must have been lucky with your impedance match. Cheers

    • @radiosification

    Very good. Here's a couple of improvements though.
    1. Never plug a radio directly into your computer. You risk burning out the internal soundcard. Instead, use a USB soundcard. These are very cheap to buy, and if you overload it, just plug in a new one, rather than have to open up your computer to replace the internal card, which is undoubtedly more expensive, as well as time consuming.
    2. It is possible to buy a lead that has different size plugs at either end, making the adapter obsolete. The lead is no more expensive than the adapter.
    3. Many laptops (particularly older ones) are very noisy. Putting distance between the connected radio and the computer may help, although the noise may run up and down the cables. It might be necessary to replace the cables with Bluetooth links.

    Hi there 👋 Great tutorial! I use Zello and two-way radios separately, both for different purposes. I want to do this but I don't know when I would need to do it. Could you give me a scenario when I would need a crosslink between Zello and my two-way radios?
    Thanks

    • @radiosification
      @radiosification  3 роки тому +1

      I just did this for fun. Businesses who use professional setups for crosslinks usually have an existing radio system and want to connect some new users cheaply or temporarily. Instead of buying or renting a whole bunch of radios and having to get them programmed for their radio system they can use a crosslink and just get people to install a radio over IP app like zello.

    • @radiosification
      @radiosification  5 років тому +1

      It is the same as you would get from these radios without the crosslink. The range for all radios depends on a huge number of factors such as terrain, frequency, antennas, weather. It can vary from about 1 metre through a lead wall (maybe even less, who knows) to probably 5000 km or more with complete line of sight such as in space.

    I love where you are going with this. It is exactly something that I need for my business. And all the apps out there suck. I need a true cross over from a smartphone to a basic analog 2-way radio. Your set up is cool. But cost me a computer. A radio. And the Zello app must be on all the time draining our phone batteries. Wondering if there is a better way of cutting out the middle man. Which would be the dedicated computer & radio. Need a direct push to talk hand held radio to smartphone connection using RF or BlueTooth to communication. Wifi could work, but if the power goes out, what's the point. Might as well use tin cans and strings or pigeons for messages.

    • @sugard-x
      @sugard-x 2 місяці тому

      Nope. The desktop app is meant to be a physical workstation version of the app on the phone. I'm not sure what you did to get where you are, but all this setup is doing is relaying the audio input and output between the Zello desktop app on a computer and a physical radio. As far as the Zello desktop app is concerned, you're using external speakers and an external microphone plugged into the computer, (although obviously you're actually relaying the audio over cables to/from a physical radio).

      This is not a reliable setup for serious applications. It is for fun only. If you want to have a crosslink for a proper radio system then you should not use VOX. Instead, you can find hardware which makes the radio transmit. Contact a business who is selling this type of solution.

    It could just be me, but do you have custom alerts set for Zello on your cell phone? The talk permit chirp sounds higher and the roger beep sounds more like a TETRA-one, instead of the standard Apollo 11-ish one. Also like the other Sepura sounds it uses. I'd love to know where you got them :)

    • @radiosification
      @radiosification  7 років тому +1

      Hah yes you are right. The ones on the phone are made to sound like motorola tetra radios, and the ones on the computer are made to sound like sepura tetra radios. I made them myself with audacity, just by finding recordings of the tones online and seeing which frequencies they are at.

    • @MoViesDProductions
      @MoViesDProductions 7 років тому +1

      radiosification Ah, cool. Could you give me some hints as to how to go about detecting the frequencies of a sound? I've tried generating my own sounds in Audacity before, but even the Motorola TETRA "beep" didn't come out quite the way I hoped it would. Wouldn't mind if you published the files somewhere, either, but I totally get it if you want to keep them for yourself :)

    • @radiosification
      @radiosification  7 років тому +1

      I usually use a program called spectrum lab to see the frequencies. Try using fade in and fade out to get them sounding right on the beginning and end of tones, otherwise you get a click sound at the start and end of the tone which doesn't sound quite right. You have to make the fade in and out quite fast.
      I'll create a video on how to do it in a few months and publish the sounds with that, after checking that they are all accurate.

      Yes. you need cables with connectors that fit to your hytera. Maybe you need to do those audio cables. Find the connectors on some special shop that sells Hytera connectors.. or buy external mic for hytera and slaughter that for your project. 73 de santa

    • @sugard-x
      @sugard-x 2 місяці тому

      The distance is not affected by the setup. Zello is cellular-based, so anywhere with a data connection you can use it. The physical radio's distance limits are whatever your existing physical radio network already supports. All this setup does is bridge the two.

    • @sugard-x
      @sugard-x 2 місяці тому

      Zello is internet/cellular-based. (Internet for the desktop app, cellular for the mobile app). As long as you have a data connection, the Zello portion will operate. As for the physical radio, the distance depends on your physical radio network. The one connected to the computer is helping bridge the connection between networks. As long as your other physical radios can operate with the one connected to the computer, that portion of it will work, even with the Zello portion through the bridge.

      There is a chance that those are analog radios but used xpr radios (you still get the same tpt with analog on xpr radios unless if you disable in cps). Companies upgrading fleet of radios with pre-existing license sometimes don’t update the license, meaning they are stuck on analog even with digital capable radios.

    This is cool, I am working on EComm in the South USA during hurricane season here and this used with FRS radios and simplex repeaters may give the general public at large more flexible comms options, No license radio persons can link in to a command center which can link out over the internet to mobile phone users. You DO NOT need cell service to use Zello either you can run it off a WiFi connection so any smartphone should be able to use this even if it is not activated on cell networks.

    have you tried to do a cross link from cellphone running Zello and using data to a two-way radio? Basically replacing the need for a computer in order to make things more portable. Instead of plugging the audio cables into a computer, you would plug them into a mobile phone.

      This video is showing a crosslink between zello and a radio. I wouldn't use this for work, as I couldn't see it working reliably enough for that kind of purpose. It's just meant for fun and chatting to other people who have this as an interest.
      If you just want to use zello just on phones though it should work pretty much fine. Zello uses data though so you have to make sure everyone has a data plan for their phones.
