Thank you very much for the easy to follow tutorials and setup guidance for these excellent units. I now have these in my vehicles as opposed to Radio Tone portables that all the drivers were loosing and damaging. We also linked them through a Zello Gateway (Server running Zello Client) into an existing UHF commercial analogue frequency so we have complete backwards compatibility for our contractors who are using the UHF equipment. It's a great little channel you've got here and I am very glad to say you've gained another sub.
Thank you and 73's from Australia.
Hey Andrew thanks so much! The setup you have going sounds absolutely fantastic! I'd love to do something like that.
73 for now and thanks for joining me!
Hi, just like to say thanks. I had heard about these things but had never seen one and had never seen Zello. Your review here was just the thing to convince me to get a couple of these "radios" My Dad is an M0 and lives in a flat where he can't have an antenna. We have tried lots of things to get him back on air on VHF without success. Your clear, simple, no-nonesense review of this unit and the demo on Zello have proven extremely useful and shown me the way. Thanks for taking the effort to make these vids. ill look you up once the "radios" arrive. Cheers M6OXP
Cheers! Glad to help! Let me know how you get on!
What you have to understand Network Radio is not RF amateur radio, Have you tried DMR either using local repeaters or a hotspot ?
Hi There .... Hope you got you dad sorted .... Perhaps he’d enjoy talking to other amateurs via the Echolink App... Merry Christmas
Actually the people telling you these aren't radios are wrong. Definition of a radio is "the transmission and reception of electromagnetic waves of radio frequency, especially those carrying sound messages." Therefore it is a radio. It uses radio waves. A cb is a radio and a walkie talkie is a radio this too is a radio. Its wireless and push to talk.
Exactly! Cheers Mike!
Also if you think about a mobile phone is a radio. You’re just playing a telecoms provider to make phone calls, sms and internet data access.
I like you programs ...I was a radio planner at airwave.
Thank you so much for a very good documentation. Some documentations on UA-cam are simply shocking; your explanations are always excellent. I have signed up to your channel and enjoy your pleasant accent an the very good programs.
great vid mate, glad to see you better,
Cheers bud
*Technically* they ARE radios. They have mobile phone radios in them. :)
These things are kinda neat.. Hopefully one day someone will write an app for radios like these for hams to use on our Mototrbo DMR networks.
is there a specific sim card you need? or could i just buy one off of like tello for example
Thank you for all of your insight and reviews.
You are delightfully contributing to my gadget addiction :-)
Cheers Michael!
my inrico T298S it is a two way radio I can program repeaters and channels on 440 frequency love it
Great video, thanks Lewis. I'm wondering if a bluetooth headset would work well with this? That would be neat.
I don't see why not Robin :) Cheers
Interesting looking device and all noted about it not being a 'radio' ;-)
For what it's worth, my own personal opinion is that Amateur Radio has a number of blurred lines now with regards what has been traditionally known in the past as 'true' radio, and technologies like DMR, for example, which employs 'real' radio, along with assistance from the internet etc.
Again, for what it's worth, I feel that all these technologies are just a continuation and a logical progression in the hobby. I well remember critics of things like Packet Radio (lots more examples of other modes in the past too, I'm sure) back in the day that it 'wasn't proper radio' (whatever that was).
Again, new technologies being advanced in the hobby and I would argue, all part of the ethos that the hobby is about 'self training and learning' , and in that respect, if it looks like a radio and acts like a radio, then you could argue, that it is radio? ;-)
Thanks for the video
Mate, agree with everything you've said there. I think it depends what people see as 'radio'. To me it's chatting to my mates over a PTT device, for me, this fits the bill and I can eff and blind on there whereas I can't on 2 and 70 LOL.
Did I mention it's NOT a radio? haha
Cheers!
It's definitely a radio, it's a 1.9 or 2.4 GHz digital radio. No it's not on Amateur Radio frequencies, but it's still a digital radio.
I got the A18 android handheld radio with has network radio and full UHF radio built in. Works great some of these do have a radio built in but not dual band only UHF
Lewis a good video. Nicely explained. This is all new to me so very interested in future videos.
Thanks Fred, parts 2 and 3 already filmed, edited and uploaded. They'll be made public soon :)
I got my TM-7 yesterday (and the RadioTone RT4). Build quality of TM-7 is excellent. Audio is loud and clear. Text input is a pain. It's a hit and miss due to the very small characters. Not a big problem though since I just have to do it once during device and app setups. Mic is solid however, the clicking noise of the PTT switch is also being recorded when I'm transmitting.
Agree with your comments Richard!
had one about a week now .the tm7 also works on teamspeak 3 ,excellent radio
Great stuff :)
Is it coming with the gsm antenna?
Very Nice , can you please test Echolink in the TM-7.?
The sun is out! Not sure I ever seen it in your vids 😉
Just like everything else in America, we seem resistant to adopting new technologies... These (any Zello PTT) are hard to come by and generally about twice the price when you find them. I've been a long time user of Zello to keep in touch with my family when out of GMRS repeater range (still haven't pulled the trigger on my ham ticket). I use my Nexus and a Bluetooth PTT mic in my car. Very handy for instant contact. Nice to have a "voice version of IRC" too when out on the road.
I would love to see more devices like this and the RT3 here in the US for hobby use.
Haha yes there's a first time for everything! Cheers
Can you use Facebook or MS teams for calls over wifi?
great review bud... the tm-7 is on my wish list..
Cheers bud
what sort of data sim can you put in one of these?
What are the P1,P2... buttons doing? Not sure if you said that on the video!
Nothing unless you assign them in button mapping software
Very cool device. Thanks
Where did you purchase the Tm7 and is it easy to setup? Gm4zji Chris
Network-Radios and yes very easy Chris :)
Hi, interested in learning more about these radios. Are they compatable with the US ham bands as well?
Compatible with other devices, you can learn about the dispatching platform of Inrico
nice video with good explanation but I am currently using the Inrico T320 which works great and also ordered the LTE Portable Radio GH880 and I couldn't find a video of the LTE Portable Radio GH880 anywhere and thought I'd give it a try with DMR. either it's nothing or it's a nice walkie-talkie
I know this video is about 6 years old, but would it work on the mobile networks in the US?
Hi. Does anyone know how you get the PTT tone changed to a sepura tone? Thanks
Venerable Flores
I have an existing radio network using vhf and uhf bands. And I am planning to add this PoC LTE radio to my network. Can you suggest how can I integrate my analog radio network to that PoC LTE radios.
Who answers SOS call when you press that orange button ?
Hello. I got a TM-7 that screams when I recive a message. I use Zello as my POC app. And sometimes when I receive a message it puts out a loud high pitched noise. Do you know why that is?
Is your "RMComms" still active matey as cannot find it?
Yes mate
Am I correct in saying that with network radio mainly VOIP that it’s licensed free communication? If this is the case will the adoption of call signs and amateur radio etiquette be out of personal choice rather than the rule?
Exactly Graham, couldn't have said it better myself.
I tried though:
ua-cam.com/video/0orLSqP46hg/v-deo.html
Great video! Thanks!
Hi Bud, how do you program the LED indicator to show when transmitting and receiving. Thanks
Hi Jamie you can't, it's there for custom software packages.
Is there any custom software available to do this ?
Thank you for your clear tutorial. Answered the questions I had about them. One thing I would like to ask though. Why do they require the two sim cards? Many thanks. Stay safe 73's
You can choose to insert one card, and two cards will facilitate your work, just like two mobile cards
@@inrico5735 Great. Thank you for your reply. Much appreciated.
Hello we just got a tm-7plus . Can you add a USB camera to the unit?
I’ve never done it but I would think so
I have the anysecu mobile network radio what sim cards do I need
How do you switch PTT mic when changing talk apps?
PTT is a separate button that you can hold down to speak, and the application is on the screen, and you can touch the screen manually.
What sim cards do I need it takes 2 plus something called a tif card
Hi. Any instructions for adding a car adapter and power supply?
It comes with the blank leads so they just solder on
Hi there,IV just ordered one from moonraker.can you tell me what the + and - pin for using a plug in power suply.many thanks
Can this device be configured to automatically power on when power is applied? I would like for it to power up when the key in the car is turned on. Thanks! Great video!
Not that I'm aware of Clint. When I switch off the PSU and switch it back on the ON button has to be pressed on the device.
hi lewis , the network radios use sim data , how much do they use ? so what sort of gb of data use would you need ?? so just a SIM card with data
Hi Ian I just use a Tesco sim in mine, it uses so little data mate
Inrico tm-7 great review, I have a pre production model, and struggling to get it to accept my call sign in echolink , it also won't map SOS button. ...possibly due to it being pre production. Anyone else had these issues. Is there a UK reseller at a reasonable price. Thanks G1YPQ Karl
Hi Karl, can you give us more info on the preproduction model? Where did you get it from?
Ringway Manchester can we exchange details without it going on here
I did not think we would get to this.
To do radio activities with a cell phone, disguised as a transceiver.
Moreover with a 2013 hardware, no 4g, 5g incoming.
I have a more traditional view of the radio.
It is however an interesting device, better with more updated hardware and a larger display.
Sorry for my bad english.
Greetings.
No, I don't think this will kill the radio hobbies. Only add to them.
When I use the PTT I get a message saying I don't have an account but with the on screen circle it works fine. Inrico T310
If you did not own any network radios and you had to pick one to buy which model would you go for and why.
Mobile - senhaix n60
handheld - qingoo 7s+
Thinking of getting one for Echolink.
Lewis, can it be set up as a WiFi hotspot, so a laptop or tablet can be connected and use the 4G connection ?, that would be useful in the car.
Hey mate, to be honest I've not looked into that but the device is only 3G, not 4G.
these do have a place in comms just like any othe comms device yes some will hate them some will love them i aint tryed one and dont know if id buy one to see how good they are as iv got rid of most of my radio gear
Yeah some like them, some hate them.. Cheers
Can you talk to a person while they are on a regular cell phone?
I've been looking at these for awhile now, and (budget permitting) would love to get them (both the RT3/4, as well as the TM-7). However, unfortunately, they are currently only GSM for the mobile network. Where I live, it's CDMA only, so I would be limited to WiFi... not very useful for mobile use. So for now, I have to stick to the smart phone for Zello. As CDMA isn't used much outside of America, it's doubtful that a CDMA-capable version will be available anytime soon. Still hoping, though. Excellent video, by the way!
What about using a CDMA to wifi hotspot?
Martin (Gw0ouv} Thanks for the vid id heard on the ham bands about these devices lets call them a handy device for situations where you cant errect an antenna. I Live in a flat upstairs flat ive managed to get a endfed wire out here it runs through the trees behind my flat, however my interest in these devices is that quite often i find my noise level on hf gets me down does,nt it get us all down so these devices would give a little break from *hf noise fatigue* - be handy just has another means to chat ive been licenced since march 1991 ive had great times on hf and i rarely transmit these days but i do listen a lot in the early hours {insomnia} so maybe ill get one of these for my 62nd birthday on march 20th id use it via my internet at home here maybe go mobile but unlikly anyway its not radio its just a mobile network handset *radio it aint !! most amateurs will shy away as its not real radio but aye we all know that its just another device to chat to fellow amateurs when conditions are poor on hf well why not i say !
An interesting bit of kit Lewis, maybe one day someone will produce a hybrid mobile radio with VHF/UHF and 3G/4G connections, wouldn't that be nice.
Have you tried an external antenna to see if it gives a more solid connection ?, the available ones seem to be quite expensive, but it could be an interesting construction project.
I operate on Zello using a Cat S30 phone and the PC application on a laptop.
It will be interesting to see what the Emergency Services will be using for in car mobile kit, when the ESN comes into use, maybe something similar but more rugged.
Samsung have been awarded a contract to supply rugged smartphones for the hand held devices.
There's some out there mate that are hybrids. Stay tuned ;)
I've not tried an external antenna as the connector is not like ones I've seen before.
It'll definitely be interesting to see what the police use!
Is it true that the UK 3G network will be shut down in 2020 thus making the TH7 redundant for mobile use?
Only Australia has said this as far as I'm aware Alan
Do you have to have SIM cards to use this radio for Zello
No you dont, wifi will do it
Hi can I use my contract sim card EE network on the rt3 or do I have to get an other sim
Should be ok chris
Hi there, can you just use this with just Wii with no SIM?cheers Paul
Hi Paul, Wi-Fi alone should be fine. If not, get a cheap giffgaff sim for £1 and pop that in with no credit.
If we can use Zello on Android phone globally ,so what make this device different ?
TO AD A ZELLO CONTACK OR IMR ON MY TM-7 IT,S HARD WORK, CAN U HELP!
I've been doing some research. Is the r3 handheld be ok for my first radio. Any suggestions any one
Yeah RT3 is best to start
Just thought I better add it does look okay tho, but just a bit above my mess about budget, be good for ppl without radio equipment
Do I need a license to use a network radio & if I do were can I get one
No you don't
transmission method is different from traditional radio, but its still a radio
Exactly!
I have asked Verizon none of these phones are mobile devices will work on a Verizon network but they will hook up via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi so I can use this off of my mobile hotspot correct?
Yes you can
@@RingwayManchester I have T-mob and verizon, both have good signal, so I was thinking to get T-mob SIM card to use this INRICO, can I get a SIM card to have data on this inrico?? Or just with hotspot??
11:00 those teeth are actually called rosettes
Does anyone have a user manual online for this radio? I cannot get my bt keyboard to pair, it is asking for a pin or pairing code, and nothing is showing on the screen.
Look up the inrico tm7 users group on Facebook and join. You’ll be able to get some help in there. It’s my group
where the best place to buy in uk,,,and has anyone imported from china, alibaba or outside eu ,,,where from? and any problems.
Hi all dose any one no if you need the app open to use the PTT ZELLO ?
PTT will open the app automatically when pressed
Interesting, will have a look.
If the radio has capabilities for putting a antenna onto the connector coukd you use a external 4G antenna for poor coverage area’s
I got one today, when I turn it on, the screen shows "starting" for 5 seconds and goes off, I tried several times, it never stayed on.
No physical reset button. It just doesn't work.
Sorry to hear Carlos!
the seller told me to change my power supply, I did and has been working fine since then.......now I'm very happy with it, except for memory space for apps, just not enough.
Hi can anyone help every time i key the mic on my inrico Tm8 it goes straight to Zello :(
You need an older version of Zello
Ringway Manchester , yes was v3.53 on tm7 and v3.31 on my Sure F22 plus :)
Can someone please explain the big antenna ?
No antenna required, with a microphone
@@inrico5735 why not just use your phone ? Waste of money if u ask any free thinking sane person.
Very Informative Video
Thanks charles!
How much
Thanks for that,
Regards
License free ?
Yes john
Beware when you buy the TM7 that is the "Android unlocked" version, is the only one that will work with IRN system. The locked version is cheaper but will not work with IRN.
Can i use pakistan?
I'm interested in the handheld device of the radio not the car I don't have a car but I'm interested in the handheld and I'm also interested in trying to actually run the latest version of Android if you can find it for me let me know in the comments below thank you God bless
Thought that might be fun to play with until I seen the price
Compared to what people pay for amateur radios - £1200 and mobile phones hundreds to £1,000 id say £150 is cheap in comparison. Ive paid that and more for an antenna tuner unit so id say im suprised how cheap they are but then again from china isnt it so there you go.
Very cool for dedicated unlimited range all though if the internet ever went down this would be a paper weight as well
Exactly :)
Where can buy this push to talk phones please send me availability address
Hi, this is Frank from Inrico, we are the original manufacturer for TM-7PLUS , please contact me with my whatsapp +86 138 2311 3260
Such devices truly ARE radios.
They're NOTHING more than trancievers that just happens to have been SDR'd into a cell phone.
They're are real computers too which just happens to be running Android.
And by using software (that is not SDR'd) you can turn them into VoIP based walkie talkies.
That is what I call irony.
Is the microphone connection unstable? The design seems to be wrong. The space of the hole is too large. Rubber cover does not come close to the end.
No it seems fine! :)
You were lucky. There is a disadvantage that the rubber covering is not smooth and does not penetrate deeply. I will show you the solution soon.

Zello 7942 bb
So is a big Android Phone with a plug in external Microphone.
Essentially yes
If a much Cheaper SmartPhone can do Zello, I wonder why one would pay ~$550 for a Zello-specific device.
There are ~$100 microphones (for SmartPhones), if it's a mic., that one wants. (Why not just use Bluetooth?)
The tiny screen seems too small to read, without a magnifier.
OK, most smartphones don't accept an External Antenna, but 4G coverage is improving regularly.
Does on-screen PTT (sans mic.) have an internal mic.? If it does, I'd bet it takes in vehicular noise.
(Yaesu FTM-10 (S: Low Power; R: High Power) has a No-External-Mic option, but it also has a tiny
mic. inside the removable remote head, so car noise needn't go with user's voice on Transmit.
The FTM-10 is a dual-band transceiver w/ wideband receive+scan, as well as AM/FM broadcast -
if you can interface in a decent AM radio, eg, via a decent splitter... It was made for motorcycles
& also used in auto racing. It's Not a current model, but may be found on used markets, eg, Ham
Club Buy+Sell events, or eBay. Rugged enough for 4WD applications, but waterproofing may be
limited to the head, eg, in high power R version. Read spec's before choosing sub model.
Oh, it's Not a Network Radio.)
And to our Reviewer, I think the vendor who offers your viewers 10% Off seems to have pulled one off on you, as they win, but you do not share in the win. Look after your own interests, as well as making a fair + balanced Review, unless you're a wealthy guy, who doesn't need another income-stream. ;-)
If a vendor won't give you info on a product you're reviewing, unless you agree to review it cost-free, the maker will (or should). Hams, by the way, help each other by sharing big reports, mods & usage tips, eg, on eHam.net & other quality sites.
You don't need to be a Ham to use or contribute to it, & a review you put there stays there for all to access.
A friend suggests: Just use an SmartPhone, with easy-to read large-screen, running Zello.
We've got XiaoMi's Mi Max with 6.44" screen, & we're considering its first (of 2, so far) successors:
Au$ 215 (from AliExpress) for a "Mi Max 2" (same 6.44" screen-size, higher capacity battery for even longer battery life, slightly slower SnapDragon processor... If speed matters to you, maybe see if Mi Max 3 uses a faster one).
So, with that 6.44" screen phone, you can have two (2) Mi Max 2's [w/ 4 GB RAM + 64 GB Storage ] for Less than a costly TM7, TM8 or a lot of other Network Radios, that I priced. (If they're all priced in US$, the SmartPhone is an even Better deal, IMO.
(Oh, if 6.44" is too large for your shirt pocket maybe look at XiaoMi Redmi 5 (or current 6) Plus (w/ 5.99" screen), that records 4K...
See? You're giving up a LOt, by buying into a maker's (or vendor's) meme, IMO.
As 5G fast approaches, this - & other 4G Network Radios will eventually be "dumped" when 5G arrives. If you Must buy a Network Radio. Buy at the right time + price: Defer your purchase & Save, is my advice. ;~)
Hi any idea what plugged power supply would work with this instead of a normal power supply and what amps would be ok to use sorry new to all this thanks
Any 12v adapter
Hi what size is the plug for the power socket is 2.1mm
think device will sell well,,,,,,it the way forward for many large company's and I am surprised a ptt system has not be adapted by cellular companies in the eu by now,,i know orange tried but I don't think it took off some years ago,,,,the company I work for has a lasge fleet and this I am told is the way we are going with our coms dumping our large and expensive band 3 network,,,will is damage ham radio,,i don't think so,,i see it as just another tool,,,it still radio,,,it uses radio,it just not part of the ham radio band plan,,,,but for £5 a month your getting access to a multimillion pound trunked cellular network with this rather nice bit of kit and its cousins.
Where did the £5.00 a month come from ?
A smart phone with a PTT. Why?
Why not?
please take note if you are in the uk and you order this product you will be charged £33.00 from network radios shipping cost and when the product is deliverd to you by dhl you will be charged another £32.69 what is suppose to import taxes i did believe that the shipping cost did cover the import taxes i fell for this so think before you order this product i was not happy at all paying £65.69 delivery charges
this is where you have to be careful with importing,,,looks good on website be vat and duty and import tax can make it not worth while coupled with the fact you have no warranty its a risk,,,i have seen these units for sale from uk sellers for £185,,,not as cheap as the Chinese websites but least you are covered for warranty for I think 2yrs by eu law,,it seems you have to be very aware of import charges being appied and when this happens s it often not worth the hassle importing on your own,,,the reason uk seller can pass saving on is they order 50 units saving on shipping charges,,passing this saving onto you even though the breakdown per unit becomes very cheap for them it gives them profit and make it worth there while to import these units that seem to be selling very well just now.
I had a thought recently, that microusb socket on the side (timestamp: 9:03) do they support usb otg? An if so, has anyone had a bash at trying to plug in a cheap usb SDR dongle to the side? I’m not a ham, but I’m sure I’ve seen some android apps on my travels that do this sort or stuff, for anyone that might want to receive ‘real’ radio if they have one of these devices!
Who knows, it might be an idea that helps someone out there! I have a RTL SDR dongle used as my Flight Radar24 feed, and it only just occurred to me after watching a really interesting video from about SDR radios at MIT that you don’t always have to use a pc or a pi. ua-cam.com/video/bI0qXPqufBY/v-deo.html
sol you pay for a phone connection ?
You don't have to, it works on Wi-Fi
yes I laughed to, he was making a call on this TM-7 as well. ok ok I can see it`s uses I must admit, but I have to turn the light out when i finish with 2 meters in the Essex area. I will try not to make comments again......you never know i mite buy one......oh and by the way go and get your full licence I don`t think you will have any problems....Regards
Been working zello since 2012. I am established there so I won't let it go. I have groups I'm in. I think I've 6 accounts.
do you need a licance??
No
