My KSUN came in today, it's definately going to be a game changer for me at work. I live in North Texas, only licensed HAM and active NOAA SKYWARN storm spotter at my job, none of my Baofengs can pick up the local ARES repeater inside the plant I work in. This radio will eliminate that problem. Rule of thumb with adverse weather such as tornados... there's as much as 5 minutes from the time a tornado is spotted by a storm spotter before alerts are sent out on NOAA radio and cell phone alerts.
Just saying I like your content bc it's straight forward and you make it "fireman" proof and it's easy to follow. Keep it up and I'll still keep watching.
Randy I just want to mention that this is the first network radio I purchased because of its price. It worked flawlessly on WiFi but after inserting a SIM card the radio did not connect. I like it. I can see use cases for it. Sometimes form factor is key for the best use. Sure, you CAN use Zello on your phone, But this form factor seems more natural for the service. It's the same reason why I use a compact digital camera with an OPTICAL viewfinder. Yeah, My phone has a nice camera, however I cannot hold it as steady and compose a shot as naturally as I can with an actual camera on my face! A "walkie-talkie" app with the form factor of a walkie-talkie is a great idea.

I'm curious how well the radios will work on the cellular network, via the Data SIM Card? If Zello allows 'talk groups', without a repeater, one could in theory have a digital talk group, via Zello, with a cellular data connection. Reminds me of the Nextel PTT Feature. Depending if Zello allows semi-private groups on their network, I see many possibilities for these radios. Thanks for sharing! :)
hello, can you help me with a recommendation for a walkie talkie model 4g vhf uhf multiband? and something else, is it worth buying something like this multiband or should it be 4g digital and that's it.
Very good explanation of what it is and is not.... I just wonder why, when everyone can just use their phone with Zello, that a "radio" was created for this. It can't even work simplex mode!
Its a much better form factor for using as a radio than using your phone, and if you drop/break it, you wont scream as loud as if you drop/break your phone.
@@TheNotaRubicon True, it's a cool gadget... I'm just a practical-ist, if I have a phone that does the same thing, I'm not going to carry another item unless it offers some other function the phone does not. But, it is cool, I guess.
I'd plan on using one of these type of radios in a delivery kitchen. We tried Zello on our cellphones, but with a dual jet engine, we couldn't hear anything.
We use these for work purposes. They have the advantage of being always "on" Zello, the batteries last forever (I easily get a week out of this particular radio, even more on my TE390), they tend to be more rugged (I have dropped this radio many times with only a few nicks), they are better weather resistant. @@TheNotaRubicon they are using the paid version. We use Bluetooth Mike's connected to a tablet that is using Zello . But with your video, I can now start looking into it more
I have two of these. I use them to keep in touch with my sisters. As we are all old people calling out "I've fallen and I can't get up" is much easier than dialing a cellphone. Also my state has cellphone laws about driving and touching a cellphone. Two way radios are ok. Sort of an inter-resident intercom. The ones I have don't switch from wifi to the sim card reliably so I always use the sim card. The sim cards are from eiotclub and provide 720 MEGAbytes of data. Sim cost is $50 US and has a two year life. I don't think they sell that anymore. They do have 360 MEGAbytes 360 day for $27 US. Do not use for time critical events. Telling the backing up cement truck operator "Stop! Stop! Stop!" May not be heard for a few seconds or a minute, possibly never.
True, however voice takes a fraction of the bandwidth that browsing/watching videos takes, so unless you have a very small data plan It might not be that great of an issue.

YES! Sort of... You can enable a roger beep and YOUR end for listening.
@@TheNotaRubicon thanks Randy. I’ll just make a “beep” sound before unkeying, especially when I kerchunk my local HAM repeaters.
Thanks for the video! Love this channel. I got one of these, how were you able to change the time? Using Vysor (on a Mac), all I can see is a mirror of the device, no additional functionalities. What am I missing?
You have to pull-down from the top or something, using the mouse, to get into the settings - Its an Android thing
If it's not on the Zillow network then why do I keep getting contacted by Realtors?
The repeater function is cool!
Great video as always. Would you consider making a video on how you interfaced zello with your our repeater?
Thank you!!
Why do I get this radio instead of using the app on my phone for free? I think zello came preinstalled on my phone
I explained why in the video. You should watch it.
@@TheNotaRubicon , wouldn't that remove some of the mystery, though?
@@PhinAI no
What sim card and service, will work with the KSUN ZL10?
Check out the Dookie in backround T.V. Boy that a nice piece of work up there 😃
Question:
If you had to do it all again, would you chain HTs for a repeater, or just buy a legit repeater?
The price is right.
Wheel of Fortune
I just saw this on Amazon they have a duel sim version as well probably for overseas. Anyway I have a question. When Chris was doing the ZELLO test did he do that test off the phone? or was this using that Handset. I would like to know how the handset sounds on regular radios maybe you can do a jeep adventure with this in the future?
Does it has a roger beep?
Unfortunately, no. 😢😢😢
People out here talking about round earth this, flat earth that. My brother in Xenu, the Time Cube is the truth!
Naw, the earth is a triangle 🔺️
Is the belt clip FCC Compliant ?
