I will also show you how you can talk with people using regular GMRS or HAM radios via repeaters connected to the Zello network, and I will show you how the ZL10 works.
You can download the free Vysor software to easily control the ZL10 from your computer, here: www.vysor.io

so pretty much useless in a grid down situation...cause, I can talk to people "around tha world" right now using the internet...smh 🙄
Yes, exactly as I very clearly explained at the beginning of the video... smh.
Pro Tip: Try actually watching a video next time before posting your useless opinion to avoid looking like a fool.
Can I ask about when you talk to people around the world... are you talking to them via Push-to-talk? Or are you typing messages to them? Or are you sending them voice recordings?

I love your background "portrait!" Lol!🤣
I picked up your channel recently while researching before pulling the trigger on a Gmrs for my Jeep. I have to watch your videos 2-3 times to get the info, the first watch I’m laughing my ass off in appreciation of your masterful subtle, smart ass, deadpan skills. You give great info that’s easy to digest especially for the people who just need a casual radio and don’t need to know the salinity of the ground to push their signal over the curvature of the earth. You’ve cleared up some things that I never really understood from my rf engineering classes in college. If you are ever near St. Louis MO, I’ll buy you a beer.
The broken pencil pointer is the cherry on top of the presentation!
You just hit the nail on the head. I've tried watching the others. Randy has the BEST educational videos on GMRS radios...period. But the trick to understanding the details and operations is to watch each video a few times. I've seen all of them....multiple times....and learn something new everytime that i missed or didn't fully grasp before. The smartass component is just a huge bonus.....and he is a pro!!!! Reminds me of.....well....me!!!
I think I speak for everyone when I say that we would all like to hear much more about the lanyard and the beltclip.
and the drool cup
You're right. He most definitely DID gloss over those! 😮

Finally a win for us in the Central Time Zone! Take that coast people!
Take that good sir!
Flyover love🍻
I agree!!!!!!!! F them 😂😂😂
Great job! You have helped me so much! I have an Amateur Extra and a GROL and the more I learn, the more i realize how much I DON'T know, and how little any of us can know. It is a shame so many Dunning Kruger folks choose to comment, but I love your proactive treatment/framing of these "contributions" and am so glad you continue helping people despite the critics who don't help anybody. Thank you!!!
I didn't know you listened to my smooth Jazz radio station! That was very nice of you mention how good I sound on the air! ;) Being a smooth Jazz DJ is one of my hidden talents.
Hidden being the key word😂
Just wanted to say your videos are awesome! Discovered your channel a little over a week ago and I've been back almost every day. Keep it up man!
Just saying I like your content bc it's straight forward and you make it "fireman" proof and it's easy to follow. Keep it up and I'll still keep watching.
I came here to learn about this radio, I fell in love with this channel within the first 4 minutes.
Your style of comedy is gold! I love your pauses.
Great video Randy! As always. SALUTE!
Ooooh, the way you peeled that screen cover off! Seriously though, good material, good info, and good delivery! Keep it coming, sir!
First you anger the Sad Hams, not you're going to anger the Sad Flat-earthers
Sad.. 😂
This guy's presentation was informational in a humorous style
My KSUN came in today, it's definately going to be a game changer for me at work. I live in North Texas, only licensed HAM and active NOAA SKYWARN storm spotter at my job, none of my Baofengs can pick up the local ARES repeater inside the plant I work in. This radio will eliminate that problem. Rule of thumb with adverse weather such as tornados... there's as much as 5 minutes from the time a tornado is spotted by a storm spotter before alerts are sent out on NOAA radio and cell phone alerts.
5 minutes if you're lucky.
*PLAINFIELD 1990 - NEVER FORGET*
Have You Ever Thought Of Buying A Midland Weather Radio With Battery Back Up .????
@@davidbird7540
My Baofengs picked up the local NOAA station just fine. It was the local SKYWARN repeater I had signal issues with.
Very interesting, the ability to use the network radio to talk to GMRS.
Yep you take the cake if I need a good laugh I'll watch one of your videos, but you also give good info on radios and uses. Good job.
Randy I just want to mention that this is the first network radio I purchased because of its price. It worked flawlessly on WiFi but after inserting a SIM card the radio did not connect. After hours of research I discovered that all KSUN IMEI numbers are blacklisted by all US cell carriers. I don't know if this is still the case but I don't see how that could have changed. Just a caveat for potential buyers.
It's very possible the manufacturer is just using old blacklisted ones.
@@kidthorazine Very true my friend. That's why I said that I don't know if this is still the case. I just want everyone to be aware of the possibility.
A lot of virtual networks can bypass this IMEI limit.
@@RKingis Good to know. Thank you.
@@RisingTidesAC I posted about this, but if you know ADB, you can update Zello & sideload a few other apps. And you can change the resolution. And there is an extended battery too, but I don't know the model.
I want to try to get restaurants using these for their drivers, so having a backup network is super handy.
I am a volunteer EMT/Rescue in Mexico.. these radios are awesome for group
This has become my favorite channel in all of youtubes.
I had a blast watching your video. keep up the excellent work..
This guy's a hoot! Instant subscription.
I truly enjoy your excruciatingly clear demonstrations! I am so happy!
awesome video i may purchase one never knew they had this radio until today on your channel thankyou for sharing
I enjoyed your zillowdot comms radio enabled phone. This will work great with my real estate business. Thank you sir.
I got to say that’s a very interesting concept. The sound quality was great.
your the man randy great video as always thanx brother !
Nice! 👍
P.S. Love the pencil! 😊
Thank you Randy - finally got the radio going. Just waiting on approval. On my Zello name it is 970 WREM instead of the other way around.
Chewed up pencil pointer for the win. I love this channel :)
Wow! What a fantastico radio! I can't wait to get one in my moist hands!
Can the "radio" use and save more than one profile for Zello? I hold both a GMRS and a General Amateur license.
I enjoy the passion with which the the "K-shun" version of KSUN is said.
Before I even watch the video I look at the pinned message... and that makes me watch the video even more... LOL. Great job Randy!
Thanks Mr NotaRubicon
I like it. I can see use cases for it. Sometimes form factor is key for the best use. Sure, you CAN use Zello on your phone, But this form factor seems more natural for the service. It's the same reason why I use a compact digital camera with an OPTICAL viewfinder. Yeah, My phone has a nice camera, however I cannot hold it as steady and compose a shot as naturally as I can with an actual camera on my face! A "walkie-talkie" app with the form factor of a walkie-talkie is a great idea.
Hey I just discovered the Retevis rt87, seems like a GREAT little radio
Love your pointer!
Have to say we missed you. Being busy is not allowed to be used as an excuse for at least 6 months. 😂
Great video again.
I cannot think of a single use case of this product for me. But when you review anything I feel strangely compelled to buy said product. Mine will arrive before the weekend.
Very peculiar and original humor, lol... Congratulations.
Like my friend from St. Louis MO said (I lived in Shelina, MO), you are ever near Fortaleza, CE Brazil, I’ll buy you a beer
Proud zello user using the gmrs repeater.
Excellent video, very informative, and as always f'ing funny. I can see a Network Radio playing an essential part in my comms P.A.C.E. plan.
Another great review, I'm thinking this would be a great way to get my Non ham friends talking radio ish.
For you (gasp) hackers out their....
If you use ADB, you can load a newer version of Zello, and sideload a few other apps. You can also change the screen resolution.
And, there is an extended battery for this type of radio, but I don't know the model number.
Your videos are phenomenal!
I know
Also Franz, as you can see, the prince of Xenu is extremely modest as well 😀
Best radio guy on YT.
Have you tested to see if a regular shoulder mic that comes with standard radios like the Baofeng will work with these?
Could you please post a link where I can purchase that cool 45 degree pencil you used for this video? Many thanks.
You're killing me!!!! I love your "other People" comments. Go Randy Go!
Nice video!
Thank you for the video; found it informitive as work uses Zello and that might be a good option having a handheld.
If they are using the paid version i'm not sure if this will work with it.
@@TheNotaRubicon they are using the paid version. We use Bluetooth Mike's connected to a tablet that is using Zello . But with your video, I can now start looking into it more
The repeater function is cool!
Great video as always. Would you consider making a video on how you interfaced zello with your our repeater?
Thank you!!
What sim card and service, will work with the KSUN ZL10?
I just saw this on Amazon they have a duel sim version as well probably for overseas. Anyway I have a question. When Chris was doing the ZELLO test did he do that test off the phone? or was this using that Handset. I would like to know how the handset sounds on regular radios maybe you can do a jeep adventure with this in the future?
Thank you!
OK, so I've seen a bunch of these SIM radios that use the 4G network (if your sim allows it, or else it would need wifi). And, though it'll be completely useless in an emergency, well it does have both 4G and wifi... And some of them, like this, has a removable antenna, which means you can hook it up to a yagi and get pretty good range... So... is it possible to use this as a very long range mobile hotspot? Or say, my camper is basically a faraday cage, can I run a cable out to a yagi and get wifi inside? And what connector is it using for the antenna? Is it sma or proprietary?
Thanks for the video! Love this channel. I got one of these, how were you able to change the time? Using Vysor (on a Mac), all I can see is a mirror of the device, no additional functionalities. What am I missing?
You have to pull-down from the top or something, using the mouse, to get into the settings - Its an Android thing
Your delivery is refreshing and up lifting. your hand signals remind me a lot of trumps public speeches. People just don't understand what you have to offer is kind of refreshing a different and is a-ok with me, considering everything else you see and hear are either to loud with lousy music, or two full of testosterone and angles that nobody wast to see! also screaming and yelling to get that point across to us at the channel. I subscribed because you took the time to explain much of this to me kudos my friend and wish you a lot of luck thumbs up. fyi I still use a citizen band radio with ssb instead, its easier for me. cuz I'm 69 years old, you understand. yes I dig this channel too
As your favorite subscriber, I agree that the world is....round.
Absolutely the best, FUNNIEST video I have EVER seen...I do believe you are my twin!! Used your link to grab one, Hereeeeeeee's your sign PERFECT VIDEO Brothah!!
I like the idea. I still don't know how you call someone specifically (ie. Your friend Chris!) These still seem to be better used for commercial applications, like cab drivers, hotel / resort staff, job site and factory workers. People who need clear audio, at the push of a button, NOT dialing a phone. Even eldery people, to call relatives, or for help! (Because my father does NOT want a cell phone!)
Fun fact: The Ga. State Patrol tried something similar, 30 years ago, but it never worked good enough. We still have many areas of our state with dead cell phone service! So they dumped it, and later went digital, VHF radios!
Question:
If you had to do it all again, would you chain HTs for a repeater, or just buy a legit repeater?
I see this being pretty useful in warehouses and workplaces. Maybe at home amongst friends (if you have any). But without a SIM card, it’s kind of limited. With a SIM card, it’s basically an Apple Watch.
Where can I buy one of your high tech yellow pointer units? Very effective pointing tool indeed! Awesome video man!
It's pointless.
Love your videos. Any suggestions on some Zello channels to join?
hello, can you help me with a recommendation for a walkie talkie model 4g vhf uhf multiband? and something else, is it worth buying something like this multiband or should it be 4g digital and that's it.
No.
I'm curious how well the radios will work on the cellular network, via the Data SIM Card? If Zello allows 'talk groups', without a repeater, one could in theory have a digital talk group, via Zello, with a cellular data connection. Reminds me of the Nextel PTT Feature. Depending if Zello allows semi-private groups on their network, I see many possibilities for these radios. Thanks for sharing! :)
Zello has several options for privacy for channels.
Price is right, I gotta get one! Yer funny as hell Randy!
My telephone has a round dial with numbers 0 to 9 on it. There are letters to but I don't see any teepee's /wigwams?
I just purchased a Ksun ZL30. How does the sim situation work here? Do I just get a SIM card with a plan through something cheap like visible wireless, with unlimited data? Or is there a certain carrier I have to go with?
I have a ZL30 and I got a SIM card from EIOTCLUB and it works. (Same sim won't work on ZL10 for whatever reason.) Oh, and with the SIM card, my clock displays the correct local time. Must fetch it from the service provider.
Looking for a good walkie talkie for my wife and I for emergency reasons or if we lose cell service. Is it a good idea to get a GMRS Certification and a GMRS RADIO? PLEASE HELP....
got on zello and added notrubicon channel. how do i get trusted so i can talk to people.
great review, I would be interested in a review of a more exspensive, possibly waterproof, version also. thank you.
My favorite ASMR channel
So where do you get a list of channels
Another fantastic review. But...... I came in here for the pinned comment. Off to point and laugh at the derp-derp!! LOL
Thanks!
Thank YOU!
looking for the software/app to program zl10 via PC
Recently in Australia and im sure would be same in usa ect telecommunications providers have been saying in 2024 onwards they will start providing starlink connectivity to 4g devices to supplement the out of range areas basically promising 100% coverage of an entire country when outdoors And promise is that current 4g devices will be compatible. Will be very interesting to see how it goes as i use my ksun z10 with a Australian sim card.
Thankyou for the great videos
Speaking of the Notarubicon repeater, is it down for the long count or just repairs? (Zello shows it as out of service…)
Might want to read the Zello-channel info page:
www.notarubicon.com/zello-gmrs-repeater/
@@TheNotaRubicon Sad news indeed. Thank you, sir…I checked everywhere except the right place! (Duh…)
Finally, an new inexpensive Network Radio.
I was just about to get this and I can't seem to find out if I can go in settings menu to change stuff such as notification sound or etc or upload custom sounds. If anyone knows please tell!!
You can go into the settings and change some of the notification sounds from the list of sounds provided. There are also some simple hacks you can do (search youtube) to add your own custom sound files.
Nice! Thanks for replying
Is the belt clip FCC Compliant ?
my question is. Since your repeater is connected does this mean I could listen to your GMRS repeater normal traffic via this app?
Yes.
I like this idea. Does anyone know the best options for US Sim cards for these?
Subscribed.
Best communication device review I've seen yet.....

How do we search for Zello channels? I have noticed there really isn't an enabled search engine to browse for any of the 200,000 known Zello channels.... Why is that? However, I did find a few GMRS- Zello linked repeaters directly from various GMRS repeater group websites, but other than that...nothing. If I wanted to search for an outdoor channel how would do that?
They removed the search feature because some of the January 6 Tourists used Zello .. So now you have to know and type-in the exact name of the channel.. If you dont know and type the EXACT name, you will never find it.
@@TheNotaRubicon Thanks for the reply. You confirmed what I suspected. BTW, thanks for all you do, Randy.
@@TheNotaRubiconI believe they're also pushing more for their paid tier service Zello@Work.
If it's not on the Zillow network then why do I keep getting contacted by Realtors?
Well, it is a kind of niche thing. It is more convenient in some cases, i bet your loving it for your repeater there. Our GMRS repeater for our group isn't on Zello, and i am pretty sure the owner would not want to put it on there and make that public as we have enough problems as it is with local sad ham jammers.
I could see it as a help to our local jamming problems possibly, but i don't know anything about setting up a repeater on Zello and if a repeater can be on Zello with access into it controlled and private, If it can, that would be a godsend to those in our group that cannot get over the jammers on our nets and so forth which is relentless. We have also recently had a member or two move out of state, and some that go out of town for weeks at a time once in a while, and Zello would allow them to still play radio with us. And we do miss our friends.
I will have to look into Zello. But i can see the usefulness of this device.
Thank you mighty Prince of Xenu! 😀
Where did you get your fingernail clippers? Mine do not work that well.
A Guatemalan woman comes to my house every Tuesday and Friday and does my nails and a few other things.
@@TheNotaRubicon I hope that your shots are up to date...
What is the battery backup?
I couldn't find a comment about the picture you paused you t.v. on....savage😆
Have you tested it with a SIM card? Does it work?
You definitely got me very interested in this radio, however in the Amazon link you posted this radio has a lot of bad reviews, I would like to see an update on this radio from you (as I do trust you) if possible before I buy one.
Cool video. This seems like a cool radio. I would imagine that the ham radio operators or any repeater owners will have a problem with this?
