This has been by far the best "haul" video I have watched and I watch quite a lot of them . I don't just say it to be nice but to encourage you to continue in this "unscripted, achy knees, dog crashing the filing (by far the best part of course 😁😁😁 - what's is doggo's name please?)". It's so good because it's real. You genuinely sound excited to open all the boxes and show it all, you talk about the why's for choosing the stuff you purchased and you don't hype up products just because you either got them for free or want to get stuff for free. Please keep your natural and enthusiastic way! And I love that you call out the use of animal hair for making brushes!!!! ❣I have the same stance when it comes to it - no animal needs to die or be tortured for my art making pleasure, especially not in 2024. Thank you for speaking up! And thank you for not editing out your four legged assistant, s/he was very helpful 😍😍😍.
Thank you so much for the encouraging feedback, I'm so relieved that you enjoyed it because, yep, I'm no pro and it is super intimidating. But so much kind feedback really gives me courage to try some more. And Renley (he) also thanks you, he loves a good compliment and cuddle. He is the best helper in the world and I don't want to ever do any activity where I would have to edit him out 🐶♥ And we are both very happy to hear that you do not approve of animal cruelty for art supplies! 🥰
Nothing wrong with your video, love the art you bought and i love mixed media, you so right, i only have synthetic brushes, use the sketch books, nothing is wrong. 😊
Oh my, I feel like so much is wrong with my first video, but I am so relieved you found it acceptable. I am so grateful for your support! PS. And so happy to hear you are not into natural hair brushes!
Lovely! I especially loved your unboxing assistant! My cream coloured chihuahua was climbing all over me as I was watching your video. So, my Lulu was an art haul unboxing video watching assistant!! 😂 Raphael has beautiful synthetics; as does Isabey! And, Rosemary & Co!! I’m looking forward to seeing your journey unfold! ❤ from Australia
Thank you for the encouraging comment, it really warms my heart. And I loved hearing about Lulu, Renley will be very flattered to know he had a pretty little chihuahua watching him all the way from Australia! That is so exciting! We both look forward to making more content for you and Lulu 😍🐶
Delightful to watch unboxing of your spectacular art supply haul! Love how much thought you put into selecting what you would order. Helps to learn that others research & anticipate art supplies as much as I do! Thanks for sharing the reasons you chose each item. Also happy to learn your opinions about synthetic art brushes. I hope you keep sharing! Have fun with your new supplies!
Thank you for your kind feedback, I'm so grateful for your support and it really makes me want to share more of the things I love about art! 😍What would you be more interested in - my favourite art books or a sketchbook review/comparison video?
Awesome! I have since then made a sketchbook comparison video, and have already shared videos of my 2 very first sketchbooks as well on my channel. It’s my very first sketchbooks when I began so it’s super amateur and “enter at your own risk” 😅
I really want to see you using a sketchbook outdoors! Your scenery is so amazing, and I love nothing more than seeing other artists using their supplies outside. Thanks for sharing. Don't worry about being relatively new to art!
I love this feedback: you have really inspired me and I have made a first attempt at sketching on my balcony for now! Painting outside is now definitely on my bucket list and I will be sharing it when I manage to do it (when it finally stops raining this year!). 😄💕
What a lovely art haul. I love the Hahnemuhle sketchbooks and use them as my “fancy” ones. 😁 I guess we all have different things available to us . I hope you will post more videos. I enjoyed this one very much.
Thanks for the kind words, and the Hahnmuhle is not a bad sketchbook, don't get me wrong!... I'm just trying to trick myself into not being so precious with them by buying even fancier ones! 😅
Synthetic! Absolutely. I admire your firm statement. Mind you, your very fancy sketchbook handmade with arches paper uses gelatin, yes, from a sentient being. I never use paper sized with gelatin. I am curious, what instructor would ever say "tracing is the best way to learn to draw"??!! I would question that for sure. With kindness.
Thank you for the feedback, I am very interesting in hearing more about this. Although gelatine is hopefully a by-product unlike squirrel/sable/weasels which are "farmed" or "harvested" (shudder) solely for their fur for brushes... it still remains an animal product. I was not aware of which companies use gelatine for sizing, but this is something I will now educate myself on! As for tracing, there is probably some value to it in forging muscle memory (remembering the feeling of drawing a straight line, a perfect circle, etc), similar to when we learnt the letters of the alphabet by tracing them in books as children. So I have come across some drawing teachers who recommend tracing as a method for training muscle memory. But I also believe that nothing replaces training your power of observation and learning to look and really see shapes. It's a very valid question though, and thankfully not one I am responsible for answering, I'm just happy to experiment and "cheat" with tracing when I want to try it ;)
You are really winning my heart by speaking up about killing animals for brushes ~ also in general really enjoy this video! Very calming voice , and fun art supplies to look at~
Thank you, I'm so happy to hear that you also care about not harming animals for art supplies! And I'm so grateful for your feedback and encouragement 🥰
Synthetic! What a super fun art haul 👍 Thank you! I enjoy the unscripted and minimally edited format. Your dog is a cutie! I feel you about your knees. Maybe put things up on a table to try and make it easier on yourself? The Strathmore 500 series mixed media sketch journals and papers are my go-to. The paper comes in large sheets, rolls, and a couple of sizes in each soft-cover and hardbound journal. There are also a couple of sizes of 500 series mixed media paper sketchbooks in wire-bound format in Strathmore’s Visual Journal line. I hope you enjoy all your new art supplies! I can't wait to see what you create!
Yay for animal-cruelty-free brushes! Thank you for the encouraging feedback, I'm so glad you enjoyed it - and Renley the chihuahua is very happy for the compliment 🐶💕 The table suggestion is a good idea, this was a surprisingly strenuous activity, I will experiment for the next one, thanks for the tip! Do you use your Strathmore 500 series for "classic" watercolour painting or do you reserve it for less watery mediums?
@@TheCherrypipangel Renley is a fantastic name! We have a little Shiba/Klee Kai girl named Jess. I’ve used the Strathmore 500 series mixed media paper almost exclusively for about the last three years. It is surprisingly durable and holds up to several layers, and everything I’ve thrown at it so far. I’ve used everything on it, from watercolor, gouache, and inks to neocolors, acrylic markers, and oil pastels. The only things I haven’t tried are soft or pan-pastels because I dislike using a spray fixative. Alcohol-based markers will bleed through, but they do on almost any paper. My favorite go-to media are water-soluble pencils (mainly Caran d’Ache Museum Aquarelle), colored pencils (Derwent Drawing Pencils), and Neocolor 2. I also frequently use ink pens like UniBall Air, Sakura Micron PN, and basic ballpoints, as well as markers like Faber Castell Pitt Dual Brush Markers and Dual Watercolor Markers, and Tombow Dual Brush Pens and Ecoline Brush markers. Sometimes, I throw salt on water media for texture and lightly use a craft knife to scrape highlights. It also handles erasing, scrubbing, and lifting reasonably well for lightweight paper. Dry media like colored pencils, graphite, oil-based charcoal pencils, and Neocolor 1 are also a pleasure to use on the surface. The paper will buckle some if flooded; it is only 90 lbs, after all, but it tends to dry mostly flat and becomes flatter still when the sketchbook is closed up. IMHO, for the way I like to create, this is the most useful sketchbook with the best bang for my buck I’ve used so far, and I’ve tried and used many sketchbooks. I used the Stillman and Birn sketchbooks for a long time but got tired of the paper pilling. I’m not easy on the paper at all. I like that the Strathmore 500 series mixed media seems to have the right number of pages for me, too, not so many that I feel like it will never end, nor too few that I finish a sketchbook too quickly. It’s also the first sketchbook I’ve ever been able to complete and reorder regularly. I do work with all three bindings and all the sizes at the same time. I’ve always got a minimum of 3 sketchbooks going at once (one large for color charts and keeping track of supplies, one large one for experimenting at home, and a smaller one for taking with me everywhere all the time). My only wish is that this paper came in an even smaller pocket size… but making a little sketchbook from a large sheet would be easy enough to do if I wanted. There is also a Heavyweight version of this paper and an illustration board version. Anyway, this is probably a much longer answer than I should’ve replied 🤪😬 and that you were expecting! I apologize for the novel. ❤️ PS- Strathmore does NOT sponsor me in any way 🤣 I just really like this sketchbook 🤷🏼♀️
@@WendiWellsthanks for all the information, it’s very helpful to inspire others, myself included, on how to use and abuse the Strathmore sketchbook 👍👌 really appreciate you sharing your experience! I’m filming the swatching in the strathmore currently and enjoying the versatility of this paper a lot, it’s as you described it. A big thank you again from me and Renley, and a sending a good ear scratch for Jess 🐶❤️
Lovely art haul, but when you put your pencils with the tip down in the pot, my heart skipped a beat! LOL Please put them with the tip up, it's better for the pencils ;)
Loved the art haul and the doggie 😍 I am drooling lol ..Also thank you for commenting on animal brushes...I think they are truly a waste of precious life especially where better alternatives exist! More artists need to say something about that and more importantly boycott animal products! Animals are worth more than a measly brush!
Thank you for the kind words, and yesss! Every life IS precious. Even the smallest, fluffiest-tailed little life. There is something not right about artists painting beautiful animals - with dead animal hair. It is so good hearing that other people care too
Thank you, I hope you enjoyed it! Ohn Mar's book is so simple and fun, I think you will have a good time with it :) Should I do a video on my favourite watercolour books some time?
@@renaem5275 Thank you for sharing, I am very interested to hear this because I signed up for a sketching tour with her next year and am impatiently counting down the months! How exciting to go on a sketching walk in Brooklyn though, it sounds like you really had fun!
@@TheCherrypipangel one day ii will invest in luminance...have an old c/d watercolor pencils tin, ii think from early 80's, love them...didn't realize they were w/c til two years ago...neo 2s & 1s are daily adds, as crayons, & 2s as paints in a stay wet palette, a sort of w/c gouache matte result, which ii use with their (student grade but rich) gouache palette... seems ii'd become a sketchbook haven, so etchr is on the wish list...ty for shares.
Hello Cherry, 🙋🏼♀️ from Cookeville, Tennessee…100 miles west of Knoxville and 100 miles east of Nashville Art Stores! We don’t 😢have and art stores here. So I mostly buy on line or take a few road trips.😊🚗💨I’m 73, retired and enjoying my revived artist life. I’m so glad I found your channel on UA-cam. You have such a wonderful soft voice I immediately thought of Bob Ross, most celebrated artist of my younger life and still is. Unlike Bob, you didn’t put me to sleep 🤭😴 I had to videotape his shows so I could finish watching them. I love you are in Switzerland! My father’s great grandparents moved to the US from Berne, Switzerland. I don’t have much history, I do know Francis was the name shared by the men and it changed to Frank in the states. I’m female and named Frances. 😊 A wonderful first video and I can’t wait to read the next ones! I prefer longer videos but also enjoy short ones when time isn’t available. I enjoy a lot of the same products. As a Pen & Ink artist, wanting to add colors, I found Inktense and fell in love with it. I have some wonderful colored pencils and a few watercolor paints. I have used Strathmore paper as a first choice for over 60 years. I love drawing miniatures and found Stonehenge cotton minis, perfect for miniature art work. It’s wonderful paper and see if you can access their website. You can get some wonderful deals. I loved Crayola crayons growing up and then appeared Caran d’Ache Neocolor II 🫠. I was very good and started small and then went back to get a couple of more and I heard myself justifying buying the 84 set, it was back ordered 🤭I started looking for the colors that were discontinued from the 126 set, thus creating the 84 set. A wonderful woman in Switzerland, in a town 30 mins from Berne, selling in the box new 126 set! I ordered it. I was going to cancel the back ordered 84 set, but it was already on the way. I now have enough stock in Caran d’Ache to be a voting me.🤣I do love these beautiful pastels! To keep from having marks / lines on your artwork, the CREATIVE ART MATERIALS Caran D'ache Palette Aquarelle it’s a plastic palette with a smooth finish and a rough finish. It’s great to create a palette of colors to paint with without creating lines on the artwork. Check your plastic cutting sheets for a rough side and that would work also. I do like your 😊Etcher sketchbooks and the price is very reasonable. The foundation of a great work of art is the paper! Artist usually discover that just like you did and you fell for watercolor pencils. 😌 😮I’m sorry, I talk too much! I’m happy to meet you and I look forward to getting to know you. The comments from the audience are wonderful and you deserve every one. If anyone makes ugly comments just delete them and don’t give them a passing thought. 🤗 Have a great week and better weekend with Renley ! 🐶 He’s so adorable and what a wonderful studio assistant. Please don’t send him away, if you don’t have to, he might get sad and cry. I have found my pets are my best friends when working in the studio. 🙋🏼♀️ Fran
Hi Fran! Thank you so much for your amazing comment, this really made my day and I loved hearing your stories! Also, thank you for the huge compliment of comparing me to Bob Ross, that’s very generous lol! It’s lovely that you’re named after your ancestors and that you have roots going back to Bern, which is a very beautiful part of Switzerland. Have you ever visited it? As you’ll see in my swatching video, I fell in LOVE with the inktense pencils and now want to order a dozen more of them 😅 and the neocolor II are also brilliant, so convenient for travel too. It’s been great discovering them and I’d love to hear tips on how you are using them! Once again, thank you so much for taking the time to write such an interesting and thoughtful comment, I truly appreciate, as does Renley. I swear he understands these comments when I read them aloud to him and his little ego is just growing 😂🥰 He is such a helpful and devoted little heart. Sending you warm wishes from both us! 🫶❤️
Great haul!! It is interesting to hear about art supplies in Switzerland. I use the Caron D Ache Watercolor pencil in Ultramarine Violet to sketch with. It desolves easily and disappears. I make my own watercolor sketchbooks -- mainly concertina -- to keep from thinking they are too precious. I have an order with Saunders papers coming soon and I am looking forward to trying it out. I added Neocolor II to my kit this year and enjoy them. There certainly is a learning curve.
I posted the comment above before finishing the video and did not realize this was your first ever UA-cam post to your channel. Please keep going. I am interested to see how you are using the supplies since many are the same as I have and some are new to me. Have fun with it and keep up the good work.
Thank you for the kind feedback and support, it's exciting to hear you use some of the same materials. I love the idea of making my own sketchbooks but have no idea where to begin. For now, I have all of these sketchbooks to put through their paces... and making a swatching video is next on my to-do list!🥰❤
Wonderful first You tube video! You have a very calming voice and I look forward to more videos from you. Also, I use the synthetic DaVinci Casaneo quill brushes and I think they are far superior to any animal hair brushes. Thank you for educating us on this important topic. And your little dog is a sweetheart. Hope to see more of him in your videos as well! 😀
Thank you and I whole heartedly agree! I also have a da Vinci casaneo quill and it is a great brush 👌 Thank you for sharing your support for animal kindness - and Renley thanks you for calling him a sweetheart 🐶❤️
Brilliant, I'm so grateful for good suggestions. Especially since I was not aware that Holbein makes masking tape, nor have I heard of Frog Tape. These are now on my shopping list, THANK YOU! 🥰
@@TheCherrypipangel tesa sensitiv (the pinky one) is also very good in sketchbooks, has never torn any paper. It's not so great for holding watercolor paper taped down, though, it's too weak.
I loved this! Thankyou so much for sharing…. And yes, I totally agree about using synthetic brushes…. There are such wonderful quality ones available…. Love your assistant…. He has won a lot of hearts!
I agree completely regarding synthetic brushes and other supplies. The cruelty involved is horrible. Congratulations on your first haul video. Your fur baby is adorable.
You did an amazing job at unboxing and doing this Art Supply haul and by the way your assistant made it 10 times better but then again I'm a dog lover and rescuer and doesn't matter of fact I currently have eight😅 and I do have mostly synthetic brushes I also have a set of sable brushes because I bought them a long time ago before synthetics became this good
Thank you so much for the kind words, and Renley is the most handsome and helpful little assistant I could ask for - it's true that he makes everything 10 times better! 🐶♥ I love hearing that you are a dog rescuer. What a lively place your home must be with 8 dogs, I can imagine the madness and fun! And lovely to hear that you have given synthetics a chance
I think your video is absolutely great, and I can't wait to see more from you. I'm excited to see you working with the materials (or others). All in all, I find you wonderfully likable.
I only use synthetic brushes my dear. My mother and sister also have chihuahuas! I can imagine he does not like winter time in your country ;) Greetings from Canary Islands!
Oh wow! What a gorgeous place to be watching from, thank you for sharing! And yes, Renley is definitely a summer dog, winter is pretty boring here for him... although we do make up for it with a lot indoor games and madness lol! Lovely to hear from you and thank you for your support :)
Enjoyed this with breakfast, also am buying synthetic brushes. Trying to launch sketchbooks, mostly dry media to start. Have mainly used acrylics for flat and 3D work, but will venture into mixed media with classic gouache.
Had NO idea it was your first haul until you said something, lmao. I love long form content, and I love art hauls. Please do more art stuff, and hauls if you haven't already, and even if you have! Art is all about experimentation. Even if you use a supply in the non intended form of use, you're still using it and creating with it. That's the main goal of all art supplies, creation. You got this! Love from the USA
Really nice haul! Perhaps you could get most of the supplies from Jackson’s art in the UK ? May be cheaper shipping , but I am not certain you could get everything from the UK.
Thank you for the kind words, and for the tip! After reading your comment I now already have a few items from Jackson's that I will not find in Switzerland in my wishlist (Holbein and Turner goodies)... I will be trying this next time to see how much it costs with shipping and imports.
Really super video thank you! Informative, calming, useful. Also use synthetic brushes and especially only purchase new (I have some very old sables from when I was in my 20s, 40 years ago!) 💕
Thanks for the tip! I have tried the Hahnmuhle tape on the thicker papers (Arches 300gsm, Saunders Waterford 300gsm, Fabriano Artistico 300gsm, Hahnmuhle Britannia 300gsm) and it works very well indeed on these papers. However it also tears up the thinner paper on the Hahnmuhle 250gsm sketchbook and I think this a problem specific to this paper. Still giving different options a try though but having a thicker paper sketchbook now will solve the problem. It’s one of the reasons I purchased all these new sketchbooks so I can move away from the thinner 250gsm paper 😉
I enjoyed your haul very much and I thougt you did a fantastic job of it! "Synthetic" brushes have come a long way for sure. I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts about all the lovely sketchbooks you purchased.
Thank you so much for the kind feedback and yay for animal kindness! I look forward to filming a review of the different sketchbooks and comparing painting in them 😉🫶
Hi, I really enjoyed your video and would be interested to see your swatches of all the products you unboxed! I agree about synthetic brushes and thank you for commenting on this :)
Thank you for your comment, I'm so glad you enjoyed it, and I look forward to filming the swatching session ASAP. And so happy to hear you do not support animal cruelty for paint brushes
Synthetic. New to your channel. I only watched this because I am the same way when it comes to art supplies. I've been thinking about making a Utube channel for about a year but not sure if I could figure out how to do. Enjoyed your haul. I wish I could send you some supplies I have. I got soo much!
Yay for cruelty free brushes, thank you! I'm really glad you enjoy the video, and it definitely felt harder to do than it looked when watching others do it... but if you are thinking about doing it, you should! Also, I love the idea of art supply swapping or exchanging. This is something I think the community could use!
Hahaha Chi chi's are impossible to hide lol! They are always in the centre of everything you do! Thank you so much for the kind words, I will definitely keep trying :)
@@karenirving7088sorry it took me a while to circle back to this, but we don’t use the word “old” on this channel - it’s more of a “fine wine” situation 😉😅 Also the word useless does not apply to you, particularly since you left such a kind and helpful comment! If you just give me a brand name or model name for your lunchboxes, that’s also fine and I’d be curious to see how you are packing your supplies 😉
Love your art haul I believe we should be mindful in our purchases. I certainly would make synthetic choices. Will be interested to see what you create with it all 😊
Just a thought about the detachable band on the sketchbook, maybe when you take it off put it over just the back cover while you are using the book so you don't lose it like I probably would do. Beautiful haul. Never feel guilty about buying yourself high end art materials. You deserve them.
Giggle, you can immediately recognize you are in Switzerland by you saying Hahnemühle 100% cotton sketchbooks are cheap. I sew my own sketchbooks from sheets of watercolour paper, makes it way cheaper. Have fun with your fabulous haul!
Ahaha guilty as charged! The Hahnemuhle are the cheapest cotton sketchbooks on sale in the Swiss art shops... I would love to go to Peter's Art in person too instead. I hope you found some nice stuff! Also, I would love to learn to make my own sketchbooks at some point but have no idea where to start - I alway thought you need seriously skills to make one!
New follower here, hi! And greetings from Oulu, Finland. 😊 I really resonated with what you said about the brushes and preferring synthetic over natural hair. This is something not enough discussed by the artists on youtube, so I'm so happy when I find someone sharing my view on not killing an animal over a brush. ❤
Amazing video. Looking forward to seeing how you get on with all your new goodies! Thank you for sharing your view on the brushes. As a hobby/newbie/for fun only painter, I've always only used synthetic brushes. Wasn't planning on "upgrading" (I've heard opinions "real" brushes are better) any time soon. Now will probably just stick to synthetic anyway, unless I can find non-synthetic ones at the thrift store to try out.
Thank you for sharing, and so happy to hear you’re on this art journey too! Also glad you’re not funding an industry that keeps little fluffy animals in captivity and cruelty 👍
I’m excited for you whilst watching this, I know you’re going to love mixed media neocolour 2s in particular are so fun. 😎 you’re going to love and have hours of playing with all of it! If you want to get less precious with your sketchbooks and don’t want to jump into the deep end straight away , get some plain paper (any paper doesn’t matter) and just go mad with it , go to town so to speak 😂 do that as many times as you want and give yourself the permission to make a mess , let loose. ❤
I love this advice of going mad with it! Yes! Thank you for this lovely comment and I will now spend some time going to town with the swatching and hopefully get that up on video for you soon. You've really made me want to jump in and enjoy :)
Keep your channel IRL, these are my favorites that I tune into regularly. I can’t stand pretend and some of the craziness that other YT put on. I have done the same thing you have, I ordered at least three different types of watercolor blocks and sketch journals. Looking for my favorite, I don’t know what to really look for, this is just my first year “making marks” on art paper 😝 I’m more of an abstract artist.
I feel similar guilt for splurging on high end art materials. I've been doing art for a very long time but I have imposter syndrome especially with social media filled with such successful artists. My husband always reminds me that I AM an artist and if I love my art supplies while creating, all the better! Enjoy your materials! Life is too short otherwise! Love your video
Hi and welcome to the Art corner of UA-cam! I greatly enjoyed your inaugural video, and look forward to many more to come. I am pleased to say I have the same art supply obsession and own enough high quality supplies to last several lifetimes. I don’t feel bad at all as I neither drink, smoke, buy makeup, and in the main purchase my clothing from the many charity shops we have here in the UK. I live in Scotland, therefore have some understanding of just how beautiful Switzerland is during all 4 seasons. Your country is on my bucket list 😊 You seem to travel a lot, is that only to France, or do you have the opportunity to travel further a field? I look forward to your swatching video, and all subsequent videos too! I have subscribed and turned on notifications. I have only two other things to mention. Your dog is a sweetheart, and I completely agree on your views on how animals are treated for such non essentials as brushes. I believe no animal should be killed for anything but sustenances. I am vegetarian, but understand that many people around the world must rely on various meats to survive. We in the west must remember that, even if we wish it did not happen at all. I am disabled, therefore cannot be relied upon to properly walk a dog, and so from an early age I have cat companions who are as much a part of my family as my now 35 year old daughter! Oh my, I suddenly feel very old indeed. I am also very much a beginner with an art hoarding issue. Currently boxing up lots of things to go to friends in Germany and the USA. Each box containing difficult to find or too expensive to purchase in our particular country. I do wish more people would use the art community to swap and share, thus allowing more people to experience luscious art supplies. I seem to have waffled on a lot. Sorry. I shall look out for the next video. Oh, before I go, your first video was extremely well done, and very engaging 😊👍🏻👩🏻🎨🖌️🎨
Your comment blew me away, thank you, and if this is the Art corner of UA-cam, it is a wonderful place 🥰 I loved hearing about you and deeply relished your confession of art supply hoarding and your justification of it by not drinking, smoking, etc - very witty and I will memorise this for future use (if you permit)! I studied and lived in France for many years, and now still travel occasionally, but a lot less because I hate being away from home and my little one, who, by the way, thanks you for calling him a sweetheart! He really has the biggest heart and pets are truly family members. We are sending your cats some extra love after reading about them! And please let's not use words like old here, it would embarrass us all I think! Let's consider this a "ageing into a fine wine" situation instead 🍷🤣 I just wanted to mention as well how good it is to hear you also believe that animal cruelty is not justified for art supplies - how can one claim to love animals but then purchase non essential items that cost an animal its life? Oh and lastly: I LOVE your art supplies trade/idea. This is something that needs to happen. I wonder if it already exists? I will explore this because this is such a good idea!
Thank you for speaking up for the living animals and creatures that have no voice. In my opinion there are so many good quality SYNTHETIC options, that no animal needs to be used for hair, gall or beetles crushed for pigments. How can we save the plant if we disrespect and kill other living creatures. I have a subscribed to your channel for art and I found a kind hearted person .Thank you
Oh my goodness I love your opinion on this! Cochineal pigment (made from crushed beetles, and it isn't even lightfast), Ox gall, natural hair brushes.... these are all products that exist in even better synthetic versions. amen! It is so encouraging hearing other people caring about the other creatures we share this planet with, thank you!
Hey there. I am so excited for your Luxury Haul! Thank you for sharing it as I have not seen some of these items up close or had them in my hands before and I appreciate being able to do so now. I do have one comment tho…you received a roll of brown craft tape and your comment was something to the effect …”you don’t know why they sent that & you would never use it…”. I would like to point out that that brown craft tape has the distinction of historically & traditionally being the preferred and primary means for stretching & securing wc paper to a board before painting. I don’t see it being used as much these days, except in the case of large paintings. Hope that clears up the confusion of why it would be included in your art haul box. I look forward to exploring your YT posts to see more of your creative journey. Thanks again for sharing! BTW, where did you get your great price on the sketchbooks? TY
Thank you for taking the time to explain the craft tape! And I’m so glad you you enjoyed the video, it was really exciting for me too because most of these supplies I have never seen in the flesh or found in shops and have dreamt for a long time of trying them. And I’m so happy to share this with you 🫶🥰
PS. I buy my Hahnmuhle and Strathmore sketchbooks from Gerstaecker because I live in Switzerland. I also have picked up an incredibly cheap Khadi paper sketchbook by Indigo Artway on Amazon and am LOVING it (and it cost less than 10 dollars)! The rest of my sketchbooks I bought at usual price directly from the brands (Etchr, Koval)
@@TheCherrypipangel you are welcome. I am glad I was paying attention so I could share that info with you! 😉 thanks for the info on the sketch books! I look forward to seeing you again. I Will be watching 😎🫶🏻
Oh god my heart is breaking just from reading your message. It is the saddest thing in the world losing a little one, they are so special and loving and we would love to keep them with us forever. Hello- I’m not sure of import rules to Switzerland from Spain but have you looked for Etchr sketchbooks on the Artemiranda website? I know I’ve seen them there. I buy from them and live in Portugal.
Hi and thank you for the suggestion! I was not familiar with Artemiranda, but have just checked them out and I see that not only do they delivery to Switzerland, they also have a very nice selection of items. Very good address, thank you for sharing!
No Amazon in Switzerland?? Your haul video was perfect! I watched to the very end. If you every want anything from the States, I am happy to be your mule and I will ship them to you. How awful. Hi Susanne! Thanks for writing, and don’t tempt me with that offer to smuggle US goods to Switzerland, I might take you up on it 😅 It’s a lovely place to live here, but it is true that importing anything is a mission. Thank you so much for you kind support though, I’m really excited to be able to share more videos with you in the future 🫶❤️
Hello 🤓 watercolour artist of over 30 years here………Watercolour paper can lose its sizing ( the layer applied to make it absorb water slower) but only after at least a decade, in my experience. I had some that lost its sizing, but that had been sitting on a shelf for 20 years. If watercolour paint is kept in an airtight tube, or if in pans and allowed to dry properly before storing, it should never go off. ❤
Hello and I’m very grateful to have input from someone with as much experience as you, thank you! So it seems there is a grain of truth that paper and pain can go off with time - even if it is a loooong time. I will keep using this as incentive to actually use my supplies instead of hoarding them 🫶😉
agree x 70... ii have some student palettes from the 80's that are even better than their newer versions in color & transpareny...some are faded a bit but just as usable/ mixable now, kept mine in original packaging when possible...use distilled water to rewet all types of watercolor/gouache in a small 4 oz spray bottle to which ii add 4 drops each organic vegetable glycerin & essential oil clove bud to prevent mold & cracking...even works with texture mediums/pastes to reconstitute much to my grateful surprise. For acrylics, ii add golden airbrush medium a few drops at a time, then the spray or use a pipette for more lubricity, & a stainless steel or plastic spatula to stir or break up chunks ... can take some effort but saves money.
Tottaly agree that synthetic brushes are great. One of my biggest regret is that I've bought sable brush (about 20 years ago) because someone suggested it is necessary...
Beautiful! Just fyi the pots are 3d printed with a wood filament. You can check out printables, and they have the 3d render model of the one you bought. My husband has 5 3d printers and we have printed the exact same pots. It cost maybe 2 USD max to print them.
The etcher signature series Sketchbook is made with fabriano artistico paper and is merely a dream of mine to have since everything I do is on fabriano artistico. As far as tracing goes if this is what we used to teach children art in school which we all do then why is it a problem for an adult to use it as a teaching tool in my opinion it shouldn't be an issue at all
Thanks for the info, and I will definitely pay attention and compare the papers when painting. As for tracing, I also don't know why it is considered "cheating" by some, but I see that there is quite a bit of debate around this topic on social media 🙊
Amazing haul! Top of the line stuff and well presented. Re: tape. You probably doe this already, but do you wait a whole day before removing the tape? It may be ripping because the paper isn't fully dry.
Please when you go through pencils etc mention the numbers of the colours or lay them them flat on a table with the numbers visible so I can pause the video and see the numbers. When you hold them in your hand and move and twist the pencils it is very difficult to see and it is much quicker to write a number than a long name🙀
I actually never thought animals are killed for brushes! I thought the hair was just cut, like a friend of mine did to make a brush with her cat's hair
This is the 1st time ive found you and have subscribed. Your furbaby is beautiful!!! How old is he? I do not believe ANY animal should be harmed, I brought my children up teaching them to NOT kill anything living even an ant and they are all very compationate adults now, I use synthetic brushes only. One day I hope to have my own fur baby chihuahua and her name is going to be Luna
I know I'm four months late, but something you said made me think you would love Chinese Brush painting/Japanese sumi-e. How you don't want to be married to a pencil sketch and want to be more spontaneous and embrace the paint that you just put down on paper, let it do the work for you so to speak. Chinese brush painting/sumi-e (they are the same exact thing, China brought it to Japan)is exactly that. It's about using the least amount of brush strokes possible to embody the spirit of the subject matter you are painting. You should try it!
I used to be against animal hair brushes, but synthetic brushes are often made of plastic derivatives and other materials that are not good for the environment or people. Some animals are humanely raised and some small brush companies use recycled hair and hair that is harvested without killing animals.
I agree that we live in a plastic world and there is not much we can do about that. I was also lulled by this idea of small farms and humanely harvested animal hair - but from the research I’ve done, this seems to be propaganda since it is not economically viable for anyone. And ultimately, even if it is true - is captivity in cages even ever humane? 🤔
@@TheCherrypipangel There is no perfect solution but small companies such as e.g., in the U.S., Lebenzon brushes use recycled and humanely sourced animal hair, some of which is a by-product of other uses rather than from captive animals. He uses some unusual hairs like elk
I don’t have a lot of experience with painting (I am still hoarding materials instead of using them …), but I can say that I 💯 % prefer synthetic brushes. I have bought a set of brushes with pigs hair, I think, from Lidl many, many years ago, and I really don’t like it. An Animal was sacrificed for these brushes, so even if I don’t like them, I am going to use them (or maybe donate them?), so that it was not a wasted life, but I am buying animal brushes ever again!
Not true about watercolor paints “going off” maybe paper, depending on how it is stored. The key is to practice and practice, that is the key. Use the paper fill the sketchbooks. If you don’t use them you are wasting your money..
Finally I have found someone like me who feels guilt over purchasing art supplies. Etcher and Hahnemuhle are expensive for me to get in Canada. I'm Vegan so I don't believe in killing animals for brushes either.
Ha, welcome to the guilty-for-buying-nice-stuff club! But there are so many smart and encouraging comments here that have helped lower the general guilt threshold. Such as one kind viewer who said that since we don't have any other vices such as smoking, drinking or gambling - art supplies is a good way of spending money. Vegan is non negotiable though! 😊🫶
I think you’re right, they definitely look 3D printed! But they’re labeled as “wood” on Etsy and I was expecting to unbox a wooden item. Seems like the Etsy shop description was wrong🤷♀️
He is the best helper in the world and I don't want to ever do any activity where I would have to edit him out 🐶♥
And we are both very happy to hear that you do not approve of animal cruelty for art supplies!
Raphael has beautiful synthetics; as does Isabey!
@@TheCherrypipangelOooh! Both, actually! But the sketchbook comparison would be very useful!
Fantastic haul! Absolutely love your ‘studio assistant’…what a cutie!❤
Thank you so much for the kind words, and my studio assistant is blushing in happiness too! 🥰🐶
Same. I love hahnemuhle, their 100%cotton is great!
Wonderful video!!
and thank you for speaking out for the animals.
You are a lovely person
Thank you so much, I really hope you enjoyed it. And it is so good seeing that you care about animal wellbeing too!
Synthetic!
It's a very valid question though, and thankfully not one I am responsible for answering, I'm just happy to experiment and "cheat" with tracing when I want to try it ;)
I believe boahong academy is also vegan
THANKS FOR BEING REAL ABOUT NATURAL HAIR BRUSHES. MUCH APPRECIATION. WONDERFUL SUPPLIES. HAVE FUN WITH THEM😊LOVE LOVE YOUR DOGGIE. YOU BOTH DID GREAT!
Thank you so much for the support and animal kindness! Renley is very flattered you liked him 🐶🥰
You are really winning my heart by speaking up about killing animals for brushes ~ also in general really enjoy this video!
Thank you for the encouraging feedback, I'm so glad you enjoyed it - and Renley the chihuahua is very happy for the compliment 🐶💕
The table suggestion is a good idea, this was a surprisingly strenuous activity, I will experiment for the next one, thanks for the tip!
PS- Strathmore does NOT sponsor me in any way 🤣 I just really like this sketchbook 🤷🏼♀️
You have a very soothing voice. Lot's of personal insight that I enjoyed. Thank you so much for sharing!
Wow, thank you! 💙🫶
Lovely art haul, but when you put your pencils with the tip down in the pot, my heart skipped a beat! LOL Please put them with the tip up, it's better for the pencils ;)
Oh my gosh I did not even think about that, I'm not an experienced pencil girl (yet).... thank you for letting me know!
Me, too!
Beautiful haul! Have fun with these gorgeous supplies 😍
Thank you! I hope to make a swatching follow up to share the fun with you
Loved the art haul and the doggie 😍 I am drooling lol ..Also thank you for commenting on animal brushes...I think they are truly a waste of precious life especially where better alternatives exist! More artists need to say something about that and more importantly boycott animal products! Animals are worth more than a measly brush!
Very well said! 👍🏻🥰
Thank you for the kind words, and yesss! Every life IS precious. Even the smallest, fluffiest-tailed little life. There is something not right about artists painting beautiful animals - with dead animal hair. It is so good hearing that other people care too
Thank you so much for sharing! You gave me so much insight on all these materials in your video. 😄❤️
Thank you the feedback, I'm glad you found it helpful!
Great video 👏😍 you totally sold me the book from Ohn Mar Win. 🤭 I also think she is a great artist and I didn’t know that she has a book.
Thank you, I hope you enjoyed it! Ohn Mar's book is so simple and fun, I think you will have a good time with it :)
Should I do a video on my favourite watercolour books some time?

I use the Caron D
Ache Watercolor pencil in Ultramarine Violet to sketch with.
Enjoyed this with breakfast, also am buying synthetic brushes. Trying to launch sketchbooks, mostly dry media to start. Have mainly used acrylics for flat and 3D work, but will venture into mixed media with classic gouache.
Very cool! That sounds like a lot of fun. Mixed media and gouache are very rock and roll mediums in my opinion 😉💙
Had NO idea it was your first haul until you said something, lmao. I love long form content, and I love art hauls. Please do more art stuff, and hauls if you haven't already, and even if you have! I could listen to you all day long.
Wow, you are so kind 😍
Hahnemule got very nice tapes, they don’t tear the paper at all
Thanks for the tip!

Thank you for your comment, I'm so glad you enjoyed it, and I look forward to filming the swatching session ASAP. And so happy to hear you do not support animal cruelty for paint brushes
Very nice art haul. One of the better ones I've seen in a while.
Thanks a bunch! 🫶
Great video. By the way watercolors last forever so no need to worry about those!
Thank you!
Here to the end… I enjoy the synthetic brushes that I have!
Thank you for your support and yay for animal kindness 🥰
The lovely chihuahua won me over! So cute and I have 5 of the beauties! More art & chi chi’s. Don’t feel u need to hide him lol
Hahaha Chi chi's are impossible to hide lol! They are always in the centre of everything you do! Thank you so much for the kind words, I will definitely keep trying :)
@@TheCherrypipangel oh they so r! Definitely keep trying but don’t put yourself through pain for the videos! Loving the vids!
I use a lunch pack for my stuff. They’re padded, insulated and waterproof. Work really well and usually inexpensive
Thank you for your advice! I need to know which type of lunch pack you mean. Could you send me a link? 🙏
@@TheCherrypipangel I’m sorry I’m old and completely useless online 😢. I have no idea about links and can’t seem to share a photo . 😓
@@karenirving7088sorry it took me a while to circle back to this, but we don’t use the word “old” on this channel - it’s more of a “fine wine” situation 😉😅
Also the word useless does not apply to you, particularly since you left such a kind and helpful comment!
If you just give me a brand name or model name for your lunchboxes, that’s also fine and I’d be curious to see how you are packing your supplies 😉
I’m working my way through your videos. All my brushes are synthetic! Thank you again .
Wonderful! I’m so glad to hear your choosing cruelty free 🫶💙
Love your art haul I believe we should be mindful in our purchases. I certainly would make synthetic choices. Will be interested to see what you create with it all 😊
Thank you, and I totally agree! I’m happy to hear you’re also choosing cruelty free 🥰
Merci pour cette jolie vidéo 🐶
Merci! 🐶🫶
Just a thought about the detachable band on the sketchbook, maybe when you take it off put it over just the back cover while you are using the book so you don't lose it like I probably would do. Beautiful haul. Never feel guilty about buying yourself high end art materials. You deserve them.
That's a great idea! Thank you so much for sharing! And I love your advice to never feel guilty 😉🫶
Good job!
Thanks!
Giggle, you can immediately recognize you are in Switzerland by you saying Hahnemühle 100% cotton sketchbooks are cheap. I sew my own sketchbooks from sheets of watercolour paper, makes it way cheaper.
Have fun with your fabulous haul!
also hey, I'm going to Peter's Art later this afternoon :)
There are lots of videos on UA-cam…..patyicularly recommend SeaLemon’s UA-cam videos
Great unboxing video! 😊 going to look for the swatching videos.
Loved loved loved the video!! This made my urge to buy even more art supplies sooooo much stronger haha 💗💗💗
Ahaha I’m happy you enjoyed it and I completely relate to that feeling, I always have a wishlist after watching haul videos! 😅💙🫶
Really enjoyed this haul . Subbed
Thank you! 🥰
@@TheCherrypipangel you are very welcome and I can’t wait to see your upcoming videos ❤️ enjoy the process and all the best x
Love all the products must try some.....bravissima thanks
You should! And thank you, glad you enjoyed it! 🫶
Thank you for your comment, I love this approach! Your husband sounds like a very sensible man who knows how to motivate you 😉🫶
Your beautiful dog added to the video ❤
😊 thank you, he's thrilled to be complimented!
i love your channel!
wow thank you for the support! 🥰
Your comment blew me away, thank you, and if this is the Art corner of UA-cam, it is a wonderful place 🥰
I loved hearing about you and deeply relished your confession of art supply hoarding and your justification of it by not drinking, smoking, etc - very witty and I will memorise this for future use (if you permit)!
Let's consider this a "ageing into a fine wine" situation instead 🍷🤣
I just wanted to mention as well how good it is to hear you also believe that animal cruelty is not justified for art supplies - how can one claim to love animals but then purchase non essential items that cost an animal its life?
Love your dog. We lost our baby of 14 years this week. I can’t stop crying
Oh god my heart is breaking just from reading your message. It is the saddest thing in the world losing a little one, they are so special and loving and we would love to keep them with us forever. My heart goes out to you and your departed baby. Please take care of yourself and don’t rush the healing process, it’s normal to cry for weeks or even months afterwards. 🐶🪽💔
How awful. No wonder you spent a small fortune on your art haul. I just subscribed and look forward to watching you swatch. Hello from Buffalo, NY.~Susanne
Hi Susanne! Thanks for writing, and don’t tempt me with that offer to smuggle US goods to Switzerland, I might take you up on it 😅
It’s a lovely place to live here, but it is true that importing anything is a mission.
Yes I supported you I am an animal person also.
Thank you! And yes to animal kindness! 🫶
I wanna see u try them all!! Where do u live?
Yes! A swatching video will be filmed very soon 😉 I live in Central Switzerland near Lucerne 🇨🇭
Synthetic 👍
Yay for animal kindness!
Thank you for letting me know, this is true! I will include the numbers next time (which will be the swatching video). 🫶
At what age did you started painting?
Apart from the weekly art class at primary school - I started 2 years ago at 40.
A fellow hoarder! 😅 I am so glad to hear that you have been won over by the synthetic brushes, kindness is sexy 😇
Not true about watercolor paints “going off” maybe paper, depending on how it is stored. The key is to practice and practice, that is the key. Use the paper fill the sketchbooks. If you don’t use them you are wasting your money..
Now this is an idea I get behind 100%. If you’re not using it, you’re wasting your money! Now I just need to build up the self confidence to do this 😉
Synthetic 😊
🥰🫶
I watched tell the end and only use brushes that don't harm animals.
Thank you for your support, and yay for animal kindness! 🐿️❤️

Far too much packaging with the Etchr books
Yes! Faaaar too much packaging for Etchr! I was struggling so much to unwrap it all 😂🤣
Those are not wood, they are definitely 3d printed.
I think you’re right, they definitely look 3D printed! But they’re labeled as “wood” on Etsy and I was expecting to unbox a wooden item. Seems like the Etsy shop description was wrong🤷♀️
