I've been using the Speediance home gym for a week now, and agree with you on many points. I do not do any heavy lifting with the barbell. It's just way too dangerous. For instance, if you want to do back squats and get in position with the barbell on your shoulders, once you engage the weights, it goes from 0 lbs to what you set very quickly, and if you are not bracing yourself for the weights, you will lose your grip and the barbell will come slamming down onto the platform. Even if you brace yourself, you have to train your body to be ready for that momentum of the digital weights getting added on so fast. It's quite a balancing act and not safe at all. I wasn't even using maximum weights (can't imagine how much tougher it would be). Same goes for bench presses using the barbell. You have to hold the barbell at the top position, then engage the weights with your thumb. This already puts you in an awkward position on one hand since it's moved off position to press the button, and if you are not ready for the weights, you could have the barbell crashing onto your chest. And don't even think about trying to engage the weights when the bar is sitting on your chest. It will put a ton of pressure on you and you will have a hard time pushing the weights up and off your chest. I've learned this the hard way...luckily I did not get injured. So I only use the smart handles for heavier weights. I replace all barbell exercises with the smart handles.
Do you have the hooks by chance? I agree with your points but I think this can be negated by using the hooks. Unfortunately, my speediance arrived before my hooks 🤣🤣 so I am unable to really test if these will solve this issue.
Thank you for this great tutorial! Just got our Speedience (Gym Monster2) set up today and have been working through some of the details! Can't wait to get into the strength assessments and programs! Question: do you hang your barbell on the barbell hooks? They came with the accessories and I have no idea where they would attach and Speedience's website isn't very intuitive or helpful!
I really liked your comment at the end about “If you are new to lifting …”. I am new and am looking for a Smart System that help me learn / check my forms. That one of things that Tempo claims to do. I’d love to hear your opinion on these systems from a new person to strength training and which will help and why.
Tempo’s form-check is unfortunately very limited and not very useful… BUT Tempo does have the best coached classes where the coaches do a great job at teaching how to do each exercise correctly.
Have the Tonal and like it quite a bit. Being having an option to have the weight automatically shut off after set would be nice. A heavy goblet squat can sometimes be awkward to get to the off on the handle. Also the dynamic modes should be part of the hardware purchase like Speediance vs the subscription in tonal.thanks for the review.
Great vid! I have one enroute in a couple of days. My area has deep pile carpeting. You were saying that it’s fairly stable with the platform in the down position. You think it’s overkill to place thick rubber matting underneath it (like in the gyms) to prevent movements? Thanks.
Thanks for the demo! Can speediance be used without internet? My fear is that the company goes under and stops supporting the product turning it into a heavy paperweight (like tonal would if it shut down)
Hey man been watching you for couple months now. I pulled the trigger on the AVIRON and ended up replacing it with the Ergatta. Love it. Now I am looking at the smart gym resistance options. Speedience sounds like the best since others require the membership and are in questionable financial states. With that being said, this has a rower attachment but doesn’t look like you could get after like you can on the Ergatta. Ideally I would like to keep the Ergatta and get the speedi but is the Speedium rower good enough to replace the Ergatta as well? Another $200 (on sale) for the rower and save $2,000+ by sending the Ergatta back but if the experience doesn’t encourage me to row to do cardio the extra Ergatta cost is worth it to me. What do you think? Swallow the price of both machines and call it a total solution, cardio on Ergatta and sttength on speedience, or would you say speedience with the rower is good enough to return the Ergatta and pay the extra fee for the rower attachment? Thank you!
Thanks, I will have not tried the rowing but if it feels similar to skiing, I don’t think it’s a great replacement for a traditional rower. It could be worth as an affordable option for someone who can’t also buy a rower, but I don’t think it would be nearly as good.
Ok that is what I was thinking. Last thing I want is to replace the Ergatta, which has ignited my daily workout fire again, with something that will feel like a chore. I like lifting weights so I do not think the lack of coaching on the speedium will be a con for me, but cardio, I need something like what Ergatta offers to keep me coming back. Lol. With that being said. I have no kids, dogs, but I keep the workout room door shut. Do you like the speedium over the Gymera and oxefit? Have you tried the forme studio lift? With resistance the most important thing for me is a good levels based AI. Program that helps me reach my goals and digital weight incorporated. Also longevity with big investment. Don’t want to buy something and then need a subscription from a company that is out of business or under unpassionate ownership.
But I want to make a decision within the next day or so before the blacks Friday sales end. Speedium’s sale seem most attentive with your $200 off - do you have coupon codes for the other options?
Sorry no code for other deals. From what I understand, Tonal is probably the smartest in terms of AI, and they certainly have the most data currently. I haven’t tried Gymera or OxeFit. Vitruvian seems like a safer version of Speediance with more loading options… but not as easy to use with no dedicated screen, or vertical stands to use for cable based movements. FORME lift seems nice in a similar way to Tonal, but I have not tested it yet. It’s definitely tough to choose with limited info out there.
Looking back I think that was my own fault, as I don’t think I locked the peg in correctly. To be honest, it hadn’t ever happened before or since that one time.
Can this go right up against the wall or does it have to stand away from the wall at all? Thanks for the video. Probably going with this because I hate the fact that Tonal turns of so much without a subscription.
I have seen several updates being made to improve safety, some of which I think better monitor differences in cable speed to help detect unsafe positions to shut down loading. I'm not 100% sure though as I haven't had a lot a time to test it out recently. I am meeting with some of the Speediance folks next week at a fitness conference, and so hope to learn more about their plans to improve it soon.
Great video, even if I was more interested to know the efficiency compared to go to a gym. Also, if there is a risk of future subscribtion (even not mandatory) on top of the machine cost, I'm not anymore interested... I hate vampires...

Hmm isn’t this a case of going lighter?
Thanks for sharing this. I always feel the barbell is a bit scary 😅

Yes, the free lift functionality works without connectivity.

Also I would have no motivation to take rowing classes on a machine like speediance, so I would suggest keeping the rower
18:06 that was scary. How do you think that could be prevented? Maybe extra press the peg all the way into the slot?
Looking back I think that was my own fault, as I don’t think I locked the peg in correctly. To be honest, it hadn’t ever happened before or since that one time.
does speediance need a 20 amp outlet.
does anyone know does the eccentric mode only work in the free lift mode
how would you do a bench press since the platform isn't quite long enough to have both parts of the bench on it. would it make it very unsteady?
It is Stable. The thickness of the platform isn't that much.
How long does it take to ship?
Can this go right up against the wall or does it have to stand away from the wall at all? Thanks for the video. Probably going with this because I hate the fact that Tonal turns of so much without a subscription.
ya it can get pretty close to the wall. Maybe an inch or so is needed as it plugs in from the back.
Don't you need space for the screen to tilt?
Any updates on the safety features (or any other key features) after the last few months?
I have seen several updates being made to improve safety, some of which I think better monitor differences in cable speed to help detect unsafe positions to shut down loading. @@ConnectTheWatts Very cool let us know. So far I really like my Speediance.
Put a yoga block by your feet during deadlifts so it hits the block rather than your toes
Loving your content and thank you for the unfiltered review. The safety issues shown are definitely a hard pass for me in this unit.
I'm really torn between Tonal and Seediance, I cant decide, more I watch youtube videos about those two more I get confused.
stop the subscription thing and I will consider it.
at the moment, it comes with a free lifetime subscription
@@ConnectTheWattsBut if they should stop their activity one day..?? Thanks

same , I was going to order it but the subscription turned me off.
