Hi Emma, love all your videos! Started solids two weeks ago and did everything you suggested from the start. The munchkin spoon, approaching at her level, no scraping. She just closes her mouth shut and turns head. I have to make her laugh to even get her to open her mouth. I try the ahhh etc nothing. She loves watching us eat though. Only using purées. Any other tips we can try?
I’ve been watching your channel since pregnancy, and have come back every time my baby hits a new milestone. She’s 5m now so here I am preparing for when she can start solids. I recommended your channel to everyone I know. Thank you!!!

Sounds like it was a tricky start for you all. I am so glad these videos have been able to make your journey with solid food a little easier. Hoping it just keeps getting better.
You are so underrated my sweet lady! I have the most crunky, stubborn baby who absolutely refuses solids, I'm going to try your tips asap! I salute you!
Hi Emma, I've been really struggling with spoonfeeding and am so glad I found your videos! Thank you for all the tips I can't wait to try. I've been looking at this all wrong 😅
Such great tips. Will definitely be trying them. My little one is 14 months old he doesn't enjoy solids he will chew for a little bit then he stops. I've been so stressed getting him to eat I kept reverting back to purees
Hi Emma, just came across your channel. I’ve already learned so much, thank you. Really hope you can help in any way- my baby turns 7 months tomorrow. I started weaning her just before Christmas by steaming and pureeing veg. She did amazingly! Spinach, green beans, brussel sprouts! Even parsnips. Then she got a bacteria infection and the trauma of hospital/injections/blood tests/oral medicine she completely stopped food. I have tried everything from letting her play with the spoon, smearing the food on the tray, eating it myself, doing baby led weaning with banana and letting her get messy. I even blended breast milk and ultimately wasted my milk. Every day I try twice at the highchair with no distractions, trying to make it fun but I’m lucky if I can get the tip of the spoon in her mouth. As soon as she catches eye of that spoon she shuts down, even letting her use her fingers or trying to put a small soft bit to her mouth. Because I don’t want to make it traumatic/force her this is as far as I can get and I can’t find any video that covers this. I really don’t want to get to the point where the doctor intervenes as I believe my baby and I can get back to where we were but I just don’t know how. Would be over the moon if you could offer any advice or do a little video as I’m sure I’m not the only mum going through a big setback. Thank you, Sarah
Hi Sarah, Sounds like it has been a tough few months for you and your little one. As you said the traumatic experience of the hospital might have set her back a bit with exploring solids. As I can’t see your little one I can’t provide specific advice which is what I think you need (the exploration you are doing with the food and not force feeding is exactly what I would recommend without being able to see her to assess her needs). I would recommend you take her to see a speech pathologist or a speech and language pathologist who specialises in feeding. In Australia I would use the Sequential Oral Sensory (SOS) approach to help you. In this approach there are multiple steps to eating and looking at, smelling, touching the food with utensils and fingers are the first steps. Sorry I couldn’t be more help.
Also Sarah was thinking of your little one and I am releasing a video next week on how to set up the high chair to support babies when they are sitting in the high chair which means they will feel more stable and willing to explore food and practice the skill of eating. This might be a good place to start to just ensure she is well supported and can practice the skill of eating rather than using her energy to sit. Don’t think it will solve the difficulties she is having but will help.
@@EmmaHubbard thank you so much even for just replying to me, it means a lot. She is a very confident sitter and loves being in her high chair but I will definitely watch your video anyhow. I’m going to give her a few days break and then go with the blw approach so that she gets to explore food textures and smells herself rather than feeling she is having the food put upon her. Going to sit with her too and eat the same foods even if it’s not my meal time as she’s always very curious at what I’m eating. Also wanted to say I loved your video on baby bouncers and why you don’t recommend them. I have a well meaning mother-in-law who has been pushing us to get one and I couldn’t put my finger on why I didn’t feel comfortable with them. Now I feel relieved after watching your video so thank you.
Hi Sarah that sounds like a great plan. Great idea to eat the same food with her too - ensure you do some play with the food so at this age it would be banging hands/items into the food. Also when your eating the food make sure you keep your mouth open and over exaggerate the movements of your mouth so she can see what you are doing with the food. When doing BLW I would think about including puréed and mashed food because you know she managed that food consistency well last month and she is safe swallowing that food. So glad you liked the bouncer video and you now feel confident in why you didn’t feel comfortable using this for your little one.
My grandson is thrilled with finally trying solids. He has always been interested in what others have been eating. He has the high chair you recommended.
Hi Emma, thank you for a nice video. My baby is 5 months old and I have been watching your videos for a while now. She will be starting solids soon. I couldn’t find any video on weaning - for how long to continue purees, when to start finger foods etc. Also, it will be nice to have your opinion on traditional weaning and baby led weaning and how could we combine both approaches.
Thank you dear Emma, this was so helpful. My baby on the other hand only squeezes the food 😢 he doesnt take it to his mouth. Please help me, he just turned 7mo. Love from Peru 🇵🇪❤️
Hi, thanks for the tips! I ll try them on, my daughter is 10months old and doesn't want to eat solid food at all. Fingers crossed that it ll change with your help❤
Emma, i broke down in tears watching this video.my baby hates eating food. He is 10 months today and eats only when the tv is on. I am gonna try these tips and i am sure its going to get better and easier.
Hi @Reema Tyagi I am so sorry if this video made you upset. It’s so hard when our little ones find eating food difficult. I hope that these tips do help to make mealtimes a bit easier for you both. Remember you are doing an amazing job raising your little one!
Hello! I am in a very similar boat to you. It's so awful and stressful. My baby is 11 months old and will only eat if youtube is on. This works for breakfast, but for lunch and dinner it's a nightmare. He throws his arms up, purses his lips, cries and basically refuses food. It's so upsetting and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't completely pissed off that this is happening. I don't know what to do. But I totally empathise with your experience.
Best video I’ve seen. Every video gives you meal prep ideas, however you give us mistakes to avoid and reasons behind certain actions. Thank you so much x
You asked on your community tab what we would like to see next and I suggested weaning as am totally at a loss- then I found this video! So much useful, helpful and reassuring info, thank you Emma! ❤️👶🏼
So pleased the information was helpful. Remember letting your little one play with the food and you showing him how to eat the food (so chew with your mouth open) is really important.
Thank you a lot for your amazing work all in all! I just cried because I expected my third baby to eat more with 6 months of age (like the other ones did). I love to still learn a lot from you. ❤
Start giving your baby orange vegetables first, because they are most easily digested. Carrot purée ,to squash, and then sweet potatoes . If they don’t want it ,try to freeze it in the teething ring Teetherpop ,frozen peas raw,to let them pick them up . Making it fun. It’s not worth forcing it,but I’d give them an hour. Holding the baby isn’t a good idea, because the baby expects to be picked up . I often let baby see food going into my mouth and I hum or go Hmmmmm delicious 🤤. Babies love it , and o distractions . To much stimulation isn’t good. Just watch the brand’s your feeding your baby. Dr Ken Berry utube toxic baby foods are 5 different kinds so be careful. I make my own, dice steam it ,or purée it for younger babies. It’s important to try something new daily and reintroduce the foods they don’t like for at least 4 months. They will get hungry, but if your making your own, you can add half squash, half carrots and put it into a cube tray, and let them feel textures . Offer a fork or something new with the foods they don’t like, they think ohhh I only get this when it’s the food I’m not fond of ,and encourages them to try. Another one . Coriander, curry, cinnamon, try the flavours after 6 months. Not to much. I found babies fed the green vegetables first all grow to love their vegetables. If they have sugary foods like bananas apples, they won’t want the green ones. Try frozen peas ,it’s excellent for motor skills as well.
Thanks a lot for the tips! Our little one just turned one and started to refuse solid food… Could you please make a video for solids beyond the first year?
Hi Emma, thank you for this video, it sure does sound hopeful and helpful at the moment. I never knew babies could be scared of their food. I also didn't know positioning could play a role, especially for picky eaters like my infant. All this while, I've never used a chair for my baby when feeding her; I hold her instead. It’s gonna change now, thanks to you.
Wow this is the most helpful video I have watch today. My baby is 6 months tomorrow & today I tried giving him a different purée but it was an epic fail. I did everything so wrong no wonder why he refused the solids . Thank you
Thank you so much for your tips and informative videos. As first time parents it can be a bit discouraging to feel like our baby is falling behind with certain milestones; solids being one of them. This video was very encouraging as we already do some of the things you’ve explained here. My baby is currently 7 months old and although he doesn’t reject the food he doesn’t quite eat it either. He tends to open his mouth and accepts the food but usually just holds it in his mouth until it falls out. He’ll eat some of it or hold it in his mouth until it’s all drooly and eventually push it out.
Hey Emma, first congratulations for the initiative of sharing all this info. I'd like to ask if you could approach the finger foods topic. I have a 9 months bub who is currently refusing finger foods. Any advice around that would be very helpful
Ooo the giving baby spoon idea was genius! Didn't know that one, great way to help them get used to the feel of spoon too😊 Great explanation in every video👍🏾
My baby just turned 4months and his doctor recommend to start solid food with him. So starting with the cereal ones with breastmilk. This was just what I needed for my boggie.
Great tips Emma. Bub is 5 months and 2 weeks old so just started solids. These tips are very handy. A question - what is your opinion on using squeeze spoons which come with silicon rings for bubs to feed easily? Will this delay their learning process with food? Should they be used? Thanks
Hi Emma this video is so informative iv been struggling to get my ten month old to eat. He only eats when his day mom feeds him but doesent eat when I feed him. He spits the food out and it becomes really frustrating meal times. I'll try these tips and see how it goes.
This is very helpful. Will try tomorrow. Thank you so much. Btw, I am playing the video at x2 speed, so I think maybe you should consider talking faster or edit the audio to run a little faster. 12 minutes seem like a lot to me. Have a great video ahead ;)
Hello Emma! I love your videos! Always helpful :) could you make one about introducing water to bubs? I’m having hard time finding good source on the internet!
My son is 10 months old and is still not a fan of food, this past week he has decided to stop touch most food all together. Could you do an updated video on what to do when baby isn’t interested in food?
Hi Emma, thanks for the tips! Is this apply for a 10mo bub? My bub is 10.5mo and we are still struggling in this feeding journey. Don’t know what else I need to do to make meal times enjoyable for him.
Hi EMMA, great channel! Thank you for sharing so much good information. Do you have a link for your favorite baby's utensils, plates, cups, etc? My baby is 6 month old and I still don't have any of that!
Hi Emma, thanks so much for your lovely video's, they are very insightful. My 11 month old, keeps throwing the food off the high chair, and peeks down to look at it and doesn't really put the food in her mouth, how do I get her to actually try to eat by herself? We have been giving her solids for around 4 months now, I usually give her a few pieces of food to play with sometimes.
My baby is 15months and only wants pureed foods. The paeditrician insists i only give solid meals similar to the what we have as adults. He still refuses and wont eat at all... its really frustrating. He just stares at my meals and prefers his pureed solids or smooth oatmeal porridge.
FTM here 😊 thank you so much for this very informative video Emma🤗 Our little daughter is now 5 months and 1 week. And we are also trying to feed her with solid foods.
Great tips especially for a first time mom like me!!! I wonder though, developmentally speaking, is seating baby at the table to have her own placemat better than her food being on her own high chair’s tray? Or does it not make any difference as long as there are adults in front showing how eating properly is done?
Hi emma unfortunately i only started really introducing solids at 8.5 months. Should I do the breastfeeding first like you suggested for a younger baby or should I do what you suggest for 9months? Also, my baby keeps rejecting the spoon, turning away, sealing his lips, rubbing his eyes (not tired). I don’t know what to do to get him to stop refusing the spoon.
I am so glad I found your channel. My 6 month old needs to eat more solids to gain weight (has been struggling to gain weight since birth) and I have been having such a hard time with him accepting solids. He does drink formula but needs 2 high fat or carb solid meals a day according to his nutritionist.
Hi Emma, my baby is 6.5 mo and she does not like solid food. She hardly take one small bite of finger food and does not open her mouth for puree. How will she have enough iron? Also how long can this half teaspoon work?
Thank you for this video. Please, I have a question, at what age do you introduce puree. My baby is turning 5 months and it seems like breast milk is becoming insufficient, is it okay to start weaning?
Excellent video. My now 8mo has really really gone off solids. We did blw from 6m and she was doing really well. Now all of a sudden she hates mealtimes. Is this a phase at 8months? The moment I put her in the highchair she screams bloody murder and starts flinging the items on the tray. Thank you

Best and most helpful video I’ve seen yet! I’ve been doing it all wrong 😂
So happy to hear this video was helpful. I am sure just small tweaks will help. Have fun and remember to embrace the mess!
I almost didnt watch this thinking it was about finger foods.
This was so helpful
So glad you watched!
Hey Emma, first congratulations for the initiative of sharing all this info. I'd like to ask if you could approach the finger foods topic. I have a 9 months bub who is currently refusing finger foods. Any advice around that would be very helpful
Great video and helpful wish you had spoken also about the differences between choking and gagging and how the way we react is important too
Good point!
This was great! Thank you 🙏🏻
Ooo the giving baby spoon idea was genius! Didn't know that one, great way to help them get used to the feel of spoon too😊
Great explanation in every video👍🏾
Thank you so much for being detailed
My pleasure. Hopefully it was helpful!
Thank u soooo much! LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!
Love your videos Emma.
Thanks
Thank u so much for this video , very helpful my baby is 7 months
My son just started eating solids and this was just what I need. Thank you so much👍
It’s my pleasure!

Thank you, popped up just in time
Omg thank you so much. I have been doing it all wrong for a week. Not too late to start over
Glad I could help! It's never too late!
Hello Emma! I love your videos! Always helpful :) could you make one about introducing water to bubs? I’m having hard time finding good source on the internet!
Thank you so much! Big help
Your welcome. Hope it helps
My son is 10 months old and is still not a fan of food, this past week he has decided to stop touch most food all together. Could you do an updated video on what to do when baby isn’t interested in food?
It was very helpful thank you so much
Hi Emma, thanks for the tips!
It's really helpful, thanks. It's not easy to be a mom, especially if you're in a new role.
So true!
Explained so nicely, thanks so much Emma x
You're so welcome!
Emma, you're amazing...thank you for this video...will surely try your tips.
Hope they help!
Thanks for this video
No worries at all. Glad you found it helpful
Thankyou so much, you helped a lot❤️
Hi Emma, thanks so much for your lovely video's, they are very insightful. My 11 month old, keeps throwing the food off the high chair, and peeks down to look at it and doesn't really put the food in her mouth, how do I get her to actually try to eat by herself? We have been giving her solids for around 4 months now, I usually give her a few pieces of food to play with sometimes.
Thank you so much for these tips! I tried, and success!!
That’s awesome! Well done!
Hei very helpful video..
My lil one is 7 months and 10 days..
Thanks a lot..
Love from India..❤️❤️
Very useful. Helped a lot. Thank you very much for the videos❣️
It’s my pleasure. Glad it helped!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you soo much
These tips are so helpful thank you!
It’s my pleasure!
Thanks for the information 💕
Great tips especially for a first time mom like me!!!
I wonder though, developmentally speaking, is seating baby at the table to have her own placemat better than her food being on her own high chair’s tray? Or does it not make any difference as long as there are adults in front showing how eating properly is done?
Thanks for all this worthy information. I was searching for my four and half baby and I learned so much from your video. 👏👏👏
I'm so glad!
Thanks for another great resource! Super helpful as always
Glad you are finding it helpful for your little one.
Thanks for this video, going to take tips from here for my twins 😊
So glad!
Hi Emma, I love your chanel we find all that we need and more. Thanks a lot for your sharing 😊🥰💪
You're so welcome!
My son does the same thing rubbing his eyes....what does that mean
I am so glad I found your channel. My 6 month old needs to eat more solids to gain weight (has been struggling to gain weight since birth) and I have been having such a hard time with him accepting solids. He does drink formula but needs 2 high fat or carb solid meals a day according to his nutritionist.
Hope these tips make mealtime a bit easier.
My issue is my 7 month is not drinking milk ... formula
Feed him milk more and don’t worry as long he’s healthy
Hi Emma, my baby is 6.5 mo and she does not like solid food. She hardly take one small bite of finger food and does not open her mouth for puree. How will she have enough iron? Also how long can this half teaspoon work?
Thank you. You are awesome
Thank you too!
Really helpful tips...thank you
My pleasure
Thank you for this video. Please, I have a question, at what age do you introduce puree. My baby is turning 5 months and it seems like breast milk is becoming insufficient, is it okay to start weaning?
perfect tips, thanks!
Glad you found them helpful 🙂
Excellent video. My now 8mo has really really gone off solids. We did blw from 6m and she was doing really well. Now all of a sudden she hates mealtimes. Is this a phase at 8months? The moment I put her in the highchair she screams bloody murder and starts flinging the items on the tray. Thank you
Please give me advice about twins and feeding them
Which high chair brand will you recommend?
