Very helpful and thorough video. I have saved the video to my X5 repair library. I have 2020 X5 xdrive at 30K miles and plan to keep it for some time. Please keep sharing tips on yours 😊
Thank you for your comment! I like hearing that my videos are helpful, it definitely motivates me to make more 🤙🤙🙏🙏 And I do recommend doing the fluid ASAP, even at 30k miles. I heard bmw used the wrong fluid for the 19' and 20s'. Mite as well get ahead of it 🙏
Technically when exchanging the fluid on the transfer case, you need to have ISTA during this procedure because this will open up a chamber in the transfer case to allow all of the fluid to be emptied when doing this job, then it is also recommended to reset the adoptions. I would say if you're not going to do ISTA, I would still do the fluid exchange at the very least
Getting ready to do compression test, for Mom's 2008 N52 E60 528i. Needed ISTA for valvtronic adjustment to close valves.... Ordered K+dcam cord with usb other end... Payed $20.20 for ISTA.... Hope only battery charger on post is all else needed for proper ...
Hope you found my video useful, unfortunately I never had an opportunity to use ISTA with my e92 when doing major maintenance, but it is definitely nice for my g05 X5
I would recommend a voltage stabilizer and not a battery charger. Voltage stabilizers can feed over 20 amps at 14 volts, whereas battery chargers provide a lot less amps.
@@rcruzthomas thanks for the advice, I tried looking for a voltage stabilizer, would you happen to have a link to one that you have? Or one that you would recommend that's not too expensive? Or are they all just expensive
Thank you for the tutorial!! I am looking into retrofitting a rear hitch with the active wiring -8SL option but see that the trailer control module needs programming to the car via the ISTA "Retrofits" path. Would you mind making a quick video showing what that looks like in ISTA?
Hey thanks for watching! Unfortunately I'm pretty new to using ista so I wouldn't be much assistance helping out with the trailer wiring. But best of luck to ya! 🙏🙏

Hallo, thank you for sharing this video. I’m trying to do the steps according to this video ( minutes 4:57-5:05). The windows shows a different menu. Any suggestions?
The screen will be a little bit different depending on what computer you have or your computer might not even require you to do that, is there something that looks similar to the box, select a similar option
In the video you seem to use the operating system Win 11, although Win 10 is recommended on the ista+ homepage. Is that correct and do you know of any problems under Win 11?

I don't think it's overblown. I think people worry too much when the fix is decently easy. It will be over blown if they don't do the maintenance and end up having to replace it
Not overblown. I have exact same car, I recently hit 60k miles and it started shuttering when backing up, turning left or right, with harder gear changes.

all of the video is fine, but missing the most critical part: setting the COM port in the PC (the ISTA part is easy). The ethernet has to connect to COM1 and my laptop did not automatically "see" the ethernet connection - which under the IPV4 properties MUST BE SET to 169.254.1.1 and subnet mask of 255.255.0.0; so I have tried to create a "soft" COM1 part, but I still cannot complete identification on the Operations tab w/o getting the check cable or PAD error message. Ideas? Thanks!
Im sorry! I'm new to ista so it's all a learning process, but I am only using the enet cord so I did not have to do any of that extra stuff. It just connects automatically through obd to USB c. Wish I could help more but if you find the answer please reply so others can learn 🙏🙏🤙🤙
@@rcruzthomas In this very last release before BMW put in encrypted keys that no one but an authorized dealer had access to; they changed the software to the point where it would NOT work with all the flavors of Windows 10 - which is all that I could put on my Panasonic Toughbook C54 - which has only USB 2.0 or ethernet. Yes, I finally got it working but only with trial and error. At BMW dealerships/authorized, they have to but special dedicated BMW equipment to hook up to the BMW LAN/WAN. OTOH, some clever companies have hacked these machines and come out with there own $3K to $5K equipment - but I'm not convinced those are worth it for we private citizens. BMW has so many weird quirks anyway. For example, my front strut started to leak air AND THAT CAUSED the vehicle lock sensors to go crazy! Who knew? The same with the grill vent actuation motors. Yes, you can sometimes buy the actuators, but they will always fail. Why? Because BMW calibrates them ONLY within the grill assembly (I have two active air grills in the front) and the opening torque is a fraction of a Newton. The ISTA software cannot calibrate them. There is no hardware or tool to do it either. One has to spend $300 to $700 for each COMPLETE grill assembly rather than the $50 for just an actuator. But BMW will, as usual, tell you nothing but happy to sell the parts and blame the failure on YOU.
