You’re looking for ISTA-P not ISTA P. When you extracted the BMW 7Zip file to your C Drive as instructed at the 16:20 mark of the video, it created a folder at C:\BMW\ISTA-P. That’s what you should enter at the manual search prompt. That’s assuming you extracted it where I recommended. Thanks.

Do you have enough hard drive free space? That C:\EC-APPS is the default location assigned by the installer. Have you ran this installer previously? Does C:\EC-APPS\ folder already exist, if so you may need to delete it and rerun that portion of the install. At this point of the install you really shouldn’t be have any issues whatsoever. With all the comments I’ve received no one’s ever had an issue for what you’re seeing. My next suggestion would be to wipe out what you’ve done, follow the instructions even more carefully. If you have the same problem again, you may have a hardware problem.

Quick question; when I open the program I don't get the page that opens at 13:47 of your video, and therefore don't get the licensing component. Instead after I open it I go to the workshop system page (which is at 14:40). My questions are, why I'm not get the licensing component? and does it matter that I'm not getting it? The previous step was to extract the files from the Thumb Drive to that location C:\EC-APPS\ISTA\TesterGUI\bin\Release. If you’re not seeing all the files from the extraction, I would make try these steps: A: Make sure that you have enough drive space and perform the extraction again. B: If you’re using some other extraction tool or the built in Microsoft extraction program, please download 7-Zip and use it. C: Make sure it is extracting to the correct location. Outside of these steps, I’m not sure what could be going wrong. Because all you did to this point is to extract (unzip) the files. Hope this helps.

I've followed your instructions with copying and pasting the OBD and EDIABAS folders and revising them with the information you provided but the cable is still not connecting. I've also changed the port setting in the device manager. I'm wondering if I should save the two original files somewhere else and keep the copied folders in the original locations maybe?

Nice, thank you. Prior to finding this, I was reading up on ISTA-D installs, and thinking "....my God, do I need a software degree just to get this running?!?" I used to install and setup full medical MRI imaging systems, and the software was easier to load and get started then what I am seeing for ISTA-D. Question: why did you choose a separate E-Drive, vs. just load in on the C: drive?
ISTA-D was installed to the C Drive. ISTA-P was extracted to the C Drive. The E Drive is where I chose to save the software download from Bimmer Diagnostics. I wanted it on the thumb drive because I’m constantly changing out PC’s. Thanks for watching and I’m glad the video helped.

I think this video is being confused with some other video. I never mention or refer to the words (streamdataprimitive, xmlvalueprimitive, or SQLLiteDBs). In my video, ISTA-P is not installed. It’s extracted “From” the thumb drive (not To) as you’re saying. Once ISTA-P is extracted to the hard drive, all I show and tell you to do is to copy the executable’s shortcut to the desktop.

My car is BMW F01 and I have an ENET/ICOM ethernet cable , can I select ICOM/ENET local area network when I install ISTA ? I don't want to spent another £20 on a K+DCAN cable if I already own an ENET/OBD2 cable.
When I bought the software from Bimmer Diagnostics, the BMW.7z was one of the files available for me to download. That file is the ISTA-P program. Maybe you didn’t buy ISTA-P…

The Ediabas settings are absolutely key. They have to be right. Also the Com Port settings have to match what’s shown. Installing the software is easy, but the configuration changes are they key. Hope this helps…
First of all, great video! But I messed something up trying to get ISTA-P running. At first, everything was going well and loaded the key and it then shutdown, I restarted it and started going through the screens on your video, then eventually shut ISTA P down and now when I try to restart it I get stuck in the loop where it keeps asking for my key then shutdown, I re-open and then it asks for the key again? Any thoughts or help would be great appreciated!
Hello, great video thanks! Do you know why, with Ista p, you have values for kl30 and kl15 in the top right corner and you have not those values in Ista d? I know that it could be problematic in Ista d when the software ask you to remove the key to clear the code. Thanks, Tom
In ISTA-P and in the upper right corner of mine it says Terminal 15, Terminal 30. In ISTA-D I do see KL 15 and KL 30. I think these are normally associated with voltage for other, maybe older BMW’s. Since I’ve been using ISTA I’ve never cared about that because there’s no readings. Just two dashes for me. I know my answer doesn’t help, but neither do these KL’s.
@@x-coastie In order to make some of the functions work in ISTA-D, the software needs to see a terminal voltage in those locations. Theres a program called "NodeEdiabasVoltageControlV3" that simulates the voltages. I'm still trying to make it work. If you could shed some light it would much appreciated, for I'm not the best at installing and configuring software. Thank you!
Also, I didn't follow the instructions well sent to me & my ISTA+ is not operating properly; the setting is not set to STD:OBD, which I need to operate my cable. Would it be better if I uninstall it & start over?
Having no idea what you did, my best advice is to go back through the video and make sure you don’t skip one step (play it, pause it, play it pause it). You cannot miss anything. Everything step I show in the video is necessary.
When you first downloaded ista you didn't select ediabas but OMITEC interface, was this intentional? Am i supposed to do that? Or was that just a simple error? Edit: Btw Thank you so much, the application's finally work for me thanks to you
What is the reason fore the usb drive, and what is the staging thing? Sry reallt bad with computers. Cant i sipmley install the program directly on my pc.
I just stumbled upon the video - Interesting, thank you. Who are these Bimmer Diagnostic folks anyhow. It looks like they have made a Java-based copy of the original BMW software? Is the software still working for you?
Initially you extract to the thumb drive on E with ISTAD folder, but in later screenshots the extracted files appear to be under the BMW software folder on the thumb drive under a folder called ISTAD. So which is it? ISTAD folder on the top level of E thumb drive, or in a sub folder of the bmw software folder? Very confusing.
Good catch! After extracting the files to the root of the thumb drive I thought ‘this could get confusing down the road for me. I should put some sort of organization to the structure’. So I created the folder called BMW Extracted ISTA Software folder and moved ISTAD to it. It’s just the unzipped/extracted location of the install files. Sorry for the confusion.
Hi X-Coastie, I’ve got a quick question about the Ista P - I’ve read that in order to code/programme properly you need a icom and a power source. My question is that why does the software give us the option to use a K-Dcan cable if it’s not advised to use one so people say. So you’re brining up something I’m too smart in. When I looked at alternatives to the K+DCAN cable this was an option. My thought at the time was no matter what, it’s not gonna talk any better or at a faster speed because of the limitation of the OBD port. But like I said, I’m not too smart on this and I could be completely wrong. But so far I’ve not had any issues with the K+DCAN cable while using ISTA-P. Hope this helps!

How much main disk space is required in total? I bought an external hard drive because my computer doesn't have much space but it seems over half the files are placed on the C Drive. Is there a workaround for that? It looks like you had to have at least 100gb of free C drive space which seems to defeat the purpose of using an external drive.
To complete the installs of ISTA -D and ISTA-P you’ll need 160 GB (60 GB for ISTA-D and 100 GB for ISTA-P) free on the PC. I have a 250 GB external drive I used to download the software from BimmerDiagnotics.com and it’s pretty full. Especially if you also want the SP Datens files (SP Daten files are the upgraded software version of an ECU). Hope this helps.
Some people use those, but since I don’t, I wouldn’t use this video to help you configure things. That’s because the software and hardware need configuring to work together.
The extraction process depends on two things. CPU power you have and the hard drive/thumb drive performance. Under a minute seems quick, but you may have a beefy/powerful system.

If I create the path manually the same as yours, the error changes and it says incomplete or corrupt folder. Is it possible I'm doing something wrong? Thanks
For unknown reasons for the 3rd time ISTA-P.exe does not want to install. It is saying somthing about permission and I went to properties I did everything I can think of...still does not installed but ISTA-D installed with no problem and works fine... Any help please
ISTA-P doesn’t install. You should have extracted the ISTA-P program by double clicking the BMW.7z file (see video at 16:20 mark). Check to see if you have C:\BMW\ISTA-P\ISTA P Loader folder on your computer. In that folder should be the actual program BMW ISTA-P Loader.exe. Just double click on the file/program and that’s ISTA-P. It should ask you to Enter the Activation Key. Once that’s done and you’ve completed all the other steps from 16:20 onwards you should be good.

I completely agree. But if you watch other videos they leave stuff out and to me, it’s even more confusing. Mine should be thought of and press play and watch step one, press pause, do the steps on your computer. Press play again and so on till you’re done.

Sorry to hear you’re having an issue. ISTA-P doesn’t install but rather extracts to your computers hard drive. Therefore it’s pretty much already configured. Please make sure you’re using the same cable and that you don’t have a hardware problem.

I’m not sure why it wouldn’t prompt for licensing. If the application works correctly and reads the cars data, then I would move forward.

At the top of device manager is a File, Action, View. Click view. Select show hidden devices.

The com ports may be hidden in device manager. I think, go to view and click show hidden devices.

It’s a big download if you buy all their software. iSTA-D, ISTA-P, and the SP Daten files. I think USB Thumb Drives are pretty cheap so why not…

At first, everything was going well and loaded the key and it then shutdown, I restarted it and started going through the screens on your video, then eventually shut ISTA P down and now when I try to restart it I get stuck in the loop where it keeps asking for my key then shutdown, I re-open and then it asks for the key again? Any thoughts or help would be great appreciated!
I’ve never experienced that. You may want to remove it from your computer and re-extract it.

Hello, great video thanks! Do you know why, with Ista p, you have values for kl30 and kl15 in the top right corner and you have not those values in Ista d? I know that it could be problematic in Ista d when the software ask you to remove the key to clear the code. Thanks, Tom
In ISTA-P and in the upper right corner of mine it says Terminal 15, Terminal 30.
In ISTA-D I do see KL 15 and KL 30. I think these are normally associated with voltage for other, maybe older BMW’s. Since I’ve been using ISTA I’ve never cared about that because there’s no readings. Just two dashes for me. I know my answer doesn’t help, but neither do these KL’s.
@@x-coastie In order to make some of the functions work in ISTA-D, the software needs to see a terminal voltage in those locations. Theres a program called "NodeEdiabasVoltageControlV3" that simulates the voltages. I'm still trying to make it work. If you could shed some light it would much appreciated, for I'm not the best at installing and configuring software. Thank you!

I would check that the COM Port is setup correctly.
Also, I didn't follow the instructions well sent to me & my ISTA+ is not operating properly; the setting is not set to STD:OBD, which I need to operate my cable. Would it be better if I uninstall it & start over?

Having no idea what you did, my best advice is to go back through the video and make sure you don’t skip one step (play it, pause it, play it pause it). You cannot miss anything. Everything step I show in the video is necessary.

When you first downloaded ista you didn't select ediabas but OMITEC interface, was this intentional? Am i supposed to do that? Or was that just a simple error?

It was intentional. The OMITEC installed drivers that will be needed.

Initially you extract to the thumb drive on E with ISTAD folder, but in later screenshots the extracted files appear to be under the BMW software folder on the thumb drive under a folder called ISTAD. So which is it? ISTAD folder on the top level of E thumb drive, or in a sub folder of the bmw software folder? Very confusing.
Good catch! After extracting the files to the root of the thumb drive I thought ‘this could get confusing down the road for me. I should put some sort of organization to the structure’. So I created the folder called BMW Extracted ISTA Software folder and moved ISTAD to it. It’s just the unzipped/extracted location of the install files. Sorry for the confusion.

So you’re brining up something I’m too smart in. When I looked at alternatives to the K+DCAN cable this was an option. My thought at the time was no matter what, it’s not gonna talk any better or at a faster speed because of the limitation of the OBD port. But like I said, I’m not too smart on this and I could be completely wrong. But so far I’ve not had any issues with the K+DCAN cable while using ISTA-P. Hope this helps!

How much main disk space is required in total? I bought an external hard drive because my computer doesn't have much space but it seems over half the files are placed on the C Drive. Is there a workaround for that? It looks like you had to have at least 100gb of free C drive space which seems to defeat the purpose of using an external drive.
To complete the installs of ISTA -D and ISTA-P you’ll need 160 GB (60 GB for ISTA-D and 100 GB for ISTA-P) free on the PC. I have a 250 GB external drive I used to download the software from BimmerDiagnotics.com and it’s pretty full. Especially if you also want the SP Datens files (SP Daten files are the upgraded software version of an ECU). Hope this helps.
Would this method work with the rj45 cable (e-net)?
Some people use those, but since I don’t, I wouldn’t use this video to help you configure things. That’s because the software and hardware need configuring to work together.

There would be no difference. I’m currently running Windows 11 and the instructions are the same.

The extraction process depends on two things. CPU power you have and the hard drive/thumb drive performance. Under a minute seems quick, but you may have a beefy/powerful system.

For unknown reasons for the 3rd time ISTA-P.exe does not want to install. It is saying somthing about permission and I went to properties I did everything I can think of...still does not installed but ISTA-D installed with no problem and works fine... Any help please
ISTA-P doesn’t install. You should have extracted the ISTA-P program by double clicking the BMW.7z file (see video at 16:20 mark). Check to see if you have C:\BMW\ISTA-P\ISTA P Loader folder on your computer.
In that folder should be the actual program BMW ISTA-P Loader.exe. Just double click on the file/program and that’s ISTA-P. It should ask you to Enter the Activation Key. Once that’s done and you’ve completed all the other steps from 16:20 onwards you should be good.
There is no addition installing for ISTA-P.

Plug in your K+DCAN cable and check the port setting on COM1. Make sure they are correct. Also make sure that the two Config files are correct.

I completely agree. But if you watch other videos they leave stuff out and to me, it’s even more confusing. Mine should be thought of and press play and watch step one, press pause, do the steps on your computer. Press play again and so on till you’re done.

Sorry to hear you’re having an issue. ISTA-P doesn’t install but rather extracts to your computers hard drive. Therefore it’s pretty much already configured. Please make sure you’re using the same cable and that you don’t have a hardware problem.
Also go back and review all the configuration settings we made regarding Ediabas in the video under ISTA-D.
