    This one is tough. Chevy has the better exterior and GMC has better interior IMO. Overall I think I would choose the Chevy. I still wish they had found a way to put 35s on them from the factory, or at least 315s.

    Ben, AWESOME review! You are spot on in all regards. I ended up buying the 3/4 ton ZR2 Bison over the 3/4 ton AT4X AEV for all the reasons you articulated. You are right about the deisel sounds: found the same in the 3/4 ton version. Quick shout out to the 3L Duramax, may go down as one of the best deisel engines ever.

    I'm glad someone else pointed it out so I know I'm not crazy. Seats are WAY better in the ZR2, sure it would be cool if they massaged I guess but the bolstering is so much better. Also an all black interior and suede headliner makes ZERO sense in an "offroad" truck. Only thing the AT4X has going for it is the exterior looks from certain angles but overall I prefer the interior on the ZR2. I wanted to like the GMC more because it's a more subtle look but after driving both the ZR2 is just a nicer place to be for its intended purpose. It also didn't help that the AT4X I drove broke down on the side of the road during my test drive :( It had the 6.2 though. That made my decision easy as far as which engine I wanted. Still can't believe GM doesn't offer the option of a larger fuel tank than 24 gallons with a thirsty V8. Hoping to pick up a low miles 24' Silverado 1500 ZR2 Bison edition AEV Duramax (that's a mouth full) in a couple years for less than 60K.

      @dopeboyp3487 6 місяців тому +1

      Did the sales person tag along, or did you test drive the 6.2 alone? Just curious to know what he/she said after it broke down. So much for PR, ha!

    • @adamhoffman1377
      @adamhoffman1377 6 місяців тому

      @@dopeboyp3487 sales guy was there. He was ahh.... Very apologetic. 6.2 obviously sounds awesome with the sports exhaust but the reliability seems to be seriously lacking. I've heard from friends that it is as simple as plugging a device into the obd2 to disable cylinder deactivation to fix the issue. When I talked to the sales guy later he was unable to tell me what was wrong with the truck and that he'd have to ask the service department. Unsure if it needed a new engine already with almost no miles on it but it clearly was not a simple fix. I really like the AEV front bumper so it's nice that GMC includes that without the AEV package, wish Chevy did that with ZR2. If the AT4X came with the better bolstering on the seats like the ZR2 and a lighter color interior I think it would be way more appealing.

    I picked the AT4X for all the reasons you didn't lol. Once you cross the 80k threshold 6k is irrelevant IMHO. To each his own, both are great trucks.

    Ben, the engine noise changes as you brake in, my GMC AT4X Duramax became more “noisier” after 7K miles.
    Fany fact, i love the GMC dash and looks way better than the ZR2, also there is too much plastic in the ZR2 plus the dash color is blue, i like the gmc in black.
    There are both great trucks, but I believe that the GMC retains its value better as well.

    I recently picked up a ZR2. I was cross shopping it against a LTZ, both with 6.2 engine.. It was the elevated cabin, way better seats and the multimatic shocks that made the ZR2 a significantly more special truck imho...

    • @hi-line8195
      @hi-line8195 6 місяців тому

      well actually I had a 2021 Sierra AT4 before this which as you know is the GMC version of Trail Boss.. Same 2inch lift and monotube shocks.. The mulitmatic dampers on the ZR2 really are awesome.. incredible for off road and very plush ride on the highway. To me, the interior just feels so fresh and different to the entire GMC/GM 1500 line and the seats are awesome too.. you cant go wrong with the trail boss but if you can swing the extra dough for the ZR2 I really do think Chevy gives you quite a bit more for your money and something that drives and feels really special @@arthurwright255

    Hey Ben, which of the two has better working HVAC vents? I like AC to be directed at my face and torso in the summer. Looks like the AT4X vents, higher up on the dash, would suit me better. IMO, the AT4x is way better looking, inside and out. The Salta wheels are better too. Hate that double mono-brow grill Chevy is using, and the hood bulge looks like a cheap add-on. The interior color scheme is not great either. Lastly, why the heck does GM insist on black door handles on the AEV versions? Looks lame. Should be body colored.🤷‍♂️

    Personally, for me, I'd with the Gmc Sierra AT4X. Feels more premium up to date while I the Silverado ZR2 feels pretty good. However, I would say the AT4X just edges out the ZR2.

    Good content in this video and I appreciate your opinion, even if it may not agree with mine. I like both these truck and will likely be selecting one over the other in the future. So, good job. I am wondering if there are any technical differences between them that I haven't deciphered from other online content, like: are the brake rotors the same size, are the calipers and lines equivalent, are the front and rear spring rates the same, are the axles the same? Etc.

    I am actually in the market right now for both of these trucks. Trying to decide I would not buy either one of those. I hate seeing these videos of them brand new $90,000 trucks and someone’s already beat them to death off road without even doing break-in procedure, if you’re gonna keep the truck for more than a couple years, the RPMs need to be below 3000 for the first 500 miles yet this guy takes him off road and covered in mud

    The GM inline 6 cylinder diesel engine is a very good design. It's a Fiat design. Sometimes, Italian engineers produce excellent engines which are as good as, or superior to, any Powerplant from Detroit. This one of those examples. BMW, and recently Mercedes-Benz, have both repeatedly proven the inline 6 to be inherently smoother than a conventional V6 or V8 engine. Unfortunately, this diesel 6 is underpowered. The torque is simply inadequate. Yes, it gets good fuel economy, but it can't carry very much in the bed, nor can it tow anything in the mid-level range of RVs; such as a travel trailer. The short beds are revealing as to their light duty nature. They make both trucks look like grocery getters, or garage queens. This diesel 6 is better suited to a Chevy Colorado. Even Ford's gas powered Godzilla can do as much, or more, work than this unit. Both these rigs need to have big block diesel V8s (and a bed longer than 5 or 6 feet) to pull a 10,000 lb. TT or 5thW. Despite its smooth operation, this very good engine is "all show and no go." It's expensive, too. As truck or car enthusiasts say: they are the answer to question nobody asked. If I had to have one of these trucks, I would put the extra $10K in cost towards other options: such as better sound system, hot spot modum, super supple leather interior, etc. A bigger tow package, if available, is a definite.
