Clever Little Orangutan Makes A Swing

A day with the amazing Sumatran orangutans at Chester Zoo
This video features all the Sumatran orangutans in the Monsoon forest at Chester Zoo, Hillda and her mom Emma are in one of the large outdoor areas, Hillda makes herself comfy next to mom first trying to take moms sack blanket then making a bed with one.
In another area Tuti makes a brief appearance standing on two legs for a moment, while her little brother Arga is busy cleverly making his own swing / hammock by hooking a sack over a tree branch.
The other members of the family: Puluh, Subis, Siska, Kesuma have chosen to be inside despite the fine weather and are busy foraging and resting. Tuti is also seen inside, with her mom dad and siblings.
Recorded in June 2024 this is current footage of the wonderful Sumatran Orangutan family at the world famous Zoo - Chester Zoo Hillda no longer has the wild and crazy hair she had as a baby, but will get thicker and longer as she matures like her sisters who have beautiful chestnut coloured thick hair
Sumatran Orangutans are Endangered
Sumatran Orangutans are an endangered species of Great Ape, threatened to the edge of extinction, due to the ongoing destruction of the Environment in their native homeland of The Indonesian Island of Sumatra. The destruction of their native forests is largely to make way for the planting of palm oil, which is used in the manufacture of many products in developed nations, such as food products and cleaning products.
Baby Orangutans at Chester Zoo
Chester Zoo is the only Zoo in the UK to House and Care for Sumatran Orangutans. They are part of the breeding program for this important and vulnerable species, ensuring there is a strong genic population in zoos and wildlife centres across the world, essential for the future survival of these magnificent animals.
These rare Sumatran Baby Orangutans are absolutely adorable and so much fun to watch, Young Sumatran Orangutans interact with each other and learn from the behaviours of other Orangutans in their Family group.
