Thanks for the video, appreciate the focus on ready to play out the box content as so many creators seem to assume everyone wants to fuss with the proton setting and/or download third party guff to get things to work!
As an indie gamer, I have to go with Octopath Traveller. That sweet pixel art is just something that never gets old.
So SO happy you mentioned Harvestella - especially since you had music from it running in the background.
It is a true sleeper, fantastic writing and acting, wonderful music etc. My only fault with the game was the combat was a bit too simplistic and it was too light on the farm sim aspect but some people may prefer that.
I also highly recommend Edge of Eternity, it's a small indie RPG that was started by a team of 5 friends I believe, who somehow roped Yasunori Mitsuda into doing the soundtrack and it takes a LOT of inspiration from Star Ocean.
Trails in the Sky also work great on the deck even though they are not verified. They work great without any tinkering at all. Would highly recommend as a great way to get started with the trails series.
Funnily enough I've JUST started it myself!
The Crossbell arc is just Trails to Zero and Azure. into Reverie is the 10th game that is the epilogue to the cold steel series
Solid list honestly
I still can get into my head how OT2 still have a overwhelming Positive review on steam.
My favourite JRPG has to be Octopath 2. The music is divine, I didn't think they could deliver as well or better after the first game. The artstyle is that wonderful mix of wierd nostalgia and traditional concept arts you used to get for older games. And overall game was such a wonderful experiance. AND THE CAMERA ANGLES FOR BIG ATTACKS! AAA! Much love for this beloved series.
Important to note, the versions of FF1-6 on steam do NOT have the improvements from the ps4 and switch versions, that means no gil and xp boosts and no original soundtrack. This isn't made clear anywhere on the store page despite the games being considered the pixel remaster. SE has said they're "working on it", but that was almost a year ago, so I wouldn't hold my breath.
Like a Dragon really blew me away despite having no experience with the series, can't wait for the sequel! Steam Deck is looking super tempting for some comfy hammock gaming outside but don't have one yet.
My favorite is Dragon Quest XI! It’s such a sprawling game, nostalgic yet current.
my favorite JRPG on steam is Trails in the sky, i really loved how details the game is like talking many NPC dialogue, lore, and world building and gameplay, it's pretty similar like Grandia and Popolocrois to me....
and what i love from trails in the sky on PC version rather PSP is i can finally do turbo mode or can mod it... i think i have purchased so many falcom game on steam like trails and Ys
4 Golden gang, rise up!
I can’t tell which is my favorite game because there’s so many , but I do like FF series , Octopath traveler & dragon quest.
I think FF7 original is playable on the Deck, as unbelievable as that sounds given its history. I remember playing the first PC port, and it was a minor nightmare getting the hardware to work properly, so it's crazy to me that I can play it on a handheld.
Persona has been my jam for years
The steam deck is the ultimate Portable Final Fantasy maschine 😭❤
Hard choice between trails in the sky and Chained Echoes. While the latter is a great game, with an enjoyable story, the former probably just pulls ahead because PC is the only source for SC and 3rd in the west. Really love the world building and engrossing story of the trails story and the trails in the sky series really sets the tone that gets carried across into the Crossbell and cold steel arcs.
I can’t pick one JRPG because I love so many of them, but I have been playing some P5R again!
Trails isn't just about long form story telling, I've had more fun with the combat and character building that any other JRPG on this list.
Final Fantasy. In a perfect world, Square would take the Capcom road and remake every title. They also need to lower the price.
Umm, has the winner been announced😅?
I’m a simple girl, see trails in the title, click
