  • We want to take advantage of the game library available on PC, but we don’t want to walk away from the simplicity of consoles that we’ve grown so accustomed to. With the Steam Deck, we get the benefits of the PC platform without needing to go deep into the world of PC gaming. I’ll show you how I keep things relatively simple so that I can keep that console experience while still taking advantage of the capabilities of the Steam Deck as a PC gaming platform.

So, I'm definitely getting a Steam Deck at some point. Admittedly in large part because of the experiences you've shared here, so thank you! 🙏
Lots of great info for me as a future Steam Deck owner. I don't love Epic as a company personally, but I lowkey wish I would have at least claimed free games over the years. Same with Prime Gaming - missed out on a lot of free stuff. I'm mostly looking forward to buying a game ONCE on Steam or another store and just owning it (hopefully) for life. Free online is also nice since true couch co-op is difficult when your gamer pals are quite literally scattered around the world.
One interesting note about console stores: PS is the only console (that I know of) where you can't buy digital game codes from other sources. I've saved a good chunk of change over the years from buying digital codes (from reputable sources) for Nintendo and Xbox consoles. Can't say the same for PS consoles. I think competition in the market is healthy, so it's a shame that Sony chose the route they did, but I get it.
Anyschways, keep up the great content, my dude! 🫶 Always happy when I see a new video drop! 🥰

I am so excited to hear your thoughts on it when you do grab one! Let me know if you end up having questions about anything.
Buying a game once is more and more appealing as remasters happen over and over and over. Not that I don’t appreciate the remasters, but sometimes it’s nice not to need one just to be able to play a game on modern hardware.
One other nice thing about Steam is inviting someone to play a co-op game with you without that person needing to buy it. Like Mario Kart on DS (pretty sure that one only needed one game card).

Steam has a refund system unlike the console manufacturers digital store fronts.
14 days and less than 2 hours played

I bought steamdeck when it launched..
3 months later i had to order another for my girlfriend (that had never played on pc) because i rarely got to play it my self.
she got kickstarted by steam familyshare testing games from my 250 steam games.
now she already has like 40 games on her account (damn sales)
But atleast i get to play my own deck now lol.

I was a hardcore console gamer ps1-ps3, then I had no time for games, then the Switch came, then I moved to steam deck, now I'm PC for life, I could never go back to console gaming after tasting freedom.

That is very similar to my own experience! I still enjoy playing on console, but wow, the Steam Deck just hits right.

I love the great joy and wonder you had when you saw the updates to ITAD's website! It's a pretty muddy site but also very, very helpful, both in letting you know when to bite the bullet and helping you keep self-disciplined ("I shouldn't buy this now - it went on sale last month! Maybe it'll go on sale again..." Happy first day of the Steam Summer Sale - do you play while docked at all? I wonder if the newly announced Hori controllers for the Steam Deck will be any good.
Oh, I did want to mention that digital console games can be purchased at other retailers, not just the native console's shop, which can help make use of sales at times from certain retailers. I wish there was a ITAD for console games 😅

I love a good sale! I can’t help but get excited haha
I occasionally play docked, but it’s kind of rare. The one feature of the OLED not present in the LCD that I wish I had is the ability to wake the Deck via a Bluetooth controller. I haven’t tested it myself, but I believe they got it working on the OLED model. That would probably make me want to play docked more often. It’s a small thing, but every bit of friction matters. (AKA I’m lazy.)

Well for me, as a console player, the Deck has all the thing i don't like about PC, and it lacks the thing i like the most on console, buying my games physical.

This is probably one of the biggest downsides to PC gaming in general. It alienates a fairly substantial base of people who like physical media. It’s a shame the massive PC game boxes we used to have as an option disappeared.

I can be pretty lazy, but the Deck is so easy to get going with that I am actually consistently playing PC games now, and I love it!

@@IntentionalBrandon All the Xbox's we have ever owned, was for my son and I to play together. Once he got bitten by the PC at the age of 7 it was wrap. He is 9 now and refuses to play on any console lol. Hence the Steam Deck I bought for myself. Now until my pc gets built, am going to try and run it like a PC with a monitor and docking station for now.

I wasn’t sure how much I would use my dock when I bought it, but it’s been great! I only use it here and there, but as soon as I want to use a mouse and keyboard, it makes everything so much easier. I’m glad the Steam Deck has helped you and your son stay connected!

I find it weird some people think steamdeck would be a console.
      it is a pc.
ofc you can use it as a pc as it is a pc.
