Hey guys, I’ve been getting a lot of messages from people since this video uploaded.
Firstly thanks for those messages. I have to say I’m quite surprised by the response and reaction to it as for me it was just an honest chat with how I’ve been feeling about life recently. I’ve always been very open and always happy to talk about my emotions and thoughts.
I am absolutely fine and back on track feeling more positive and motivated again. I do struggle with my own thoughts and mental health at times and always will. The last few weeks have just been a blip of feeling down and sorry for myself.
I’m a big overthinker and have spent too much time recently thinking and worrying about the future, questioning what goals/ambitions I have in life, whether what I’m doing right now is what I ‘should’ be doing (I do this often). On top of that feeling very overwhelmed with the van build as I want to move things forward but often feel stuck at how to progress when I’ve never done anything like this before.
It’s been a pretty meeehhh few weeks of feeling up and down like a yo-yo but these are normal feelings and emotions that every person goes through.
Anyway just wanted to let people know I’m all good. Thanks for the support (even tho I genuinely never expected this ‘response’) from the messages, emails and comments I’ve been receiving.
    ❤️🤙🏼

Hey mate we all have ups and downs. You have to persevere to over come. Atleast you are not on a deadline and still doing great stealth camps even if the van isnt complete. A mr buddy heater will work and then atleast you have propane and add a thermo electric fan mounted in top. Will work while you get the diesel heater sorted. You provide escape and inspiration to others, so sorry to see you feeling down. My whole family loves to watch you. Regds sanj

THANK YOU WILL!!! Many van build channels don't show you the 'hard stuff', the 'reality'. You have and I really appreciate it. I'm not a mechanic or a carpenter and am incredibly frustrated with not moving forward with my own van build. This has made me feel WAY less alone and useless. It's reassuring to know that I'm not alone. So, my heart goes out to you and I want you to know that you aren't alone in this either. I've found that the key to this is asking for help and learning along the way

I look forward to all your videos. This is one of your better ones in my opinion. So many UA-camrs put on fake positivity for the camera. It’s refreshing to see the reality of it all. I’m not building a van but I can relate to how you’re feeling as I had similar experiences renovating my house. Just keep going, you are doing a great thing.

Wiil, hang in there Mate! I am going to be honest from someone who has watched a majority of your videos from way back. It is clear to me that you really enjoy being on the road, out and about. It may come to a point now, that you bite the bullet and pay someone or elicit more help to finish off the build so you can get back on the road. Whatever you decide, let these challenges be motivation to get back out on the road! Stay safe and healthy!

I know this video is fairly old and I can see skimming through future videos in this series that you've gotten back on track and made loads of progress, but I just wanted to say I found this series two days ago and have been watching the episodes in order (looking to start my own van project next year), and although it doesn't feel like it at the time when you get down on yourself and things get on top of you, watching these videos from start to finish you can see how much stronger you get with each set back and your confidence builds. If (or more, when, since it's part of life) you get in your own head again about anything you set your mind to, not just the van, maybe have a look back at these videos and see how far you've come - honestly just looking at how unsure of yourself and your ideas you were in the first couple of videos, and how you responded to set backs and mistakes, compared to even the videos around this time, it's so obvious from an outsider's perspective that you're growing as a person and it's lovely to see! You should be really proud of yourself Will - you put your ideas into action whether you know what you're doing or not, you admit when you've cocked up, accept help when you need it and you're willing to learn. You've done a brilliant job on this van. Good on you for not bottling it up and for talking about how you're feeling too - not enough people (especially blokes) do. Can't wait to keep watching this series and see where you're at with it now. All the best (and merry Christmas!) 👏

We are all rooting for you! You will get it done!!! When you get exhausted ,just stop! Go get food and drink and a good night's sleep.Everything looks better when you're rested Give yourself a break!

Totally relate Will. The feeling of being overwhelmed is a large part of what holds me back in life. It consumes you.
But I think we have to take every little step forward as a positive and hope to build on it. Even when it feels as if you are moving backwards. Try to enjoy the process, even if it's slow and it's frustrating. There will come a point when all the work and patience pays off.
    Keep trucking on mate! 🤜

I get how you feel mate. I’m on medication for depression and anxiety and have the feelings you have on a daily basis. I think OCD plays a part in it too. I keep putting off job after job, feeling like everything has to be done in order or it won’t work. I stripped my wall paper of the walls in my living room 4 months ago, I’ve just got no will power or motivation to do anything with them. I get how it feels when everything is too much, everyday just feels overwhelming to me lately, I’m glad you can talk about it. Keep in there fella, apparently it will be ok in the end? It’s just the journey to the end is so long and difficult. Take care brother 🤜🏻

Hey Will, I’ve been following your vids since stealth camp galaxy days and I’ve been following the van build series very closely.
I think it’s an important point to highlight that it’s not necessarily an easy or glamorous or quick process as often portrayed, so it’s really refreshing to see the real side of the project and the human impact on yourself, so applause for sharing and not hiding it.
I know next to nothing about van builds but I did build a bar in my garden during the first lockdown, and when I struggled to achieve larger tasks, this might help you might already be doing this, I broke the larger tasks down into more easier to achieve and smaller tasks. I felt like I made more progress that way and kept me motivated to finish.
If you are struggling to motivate yourself, take a break for a while. Or maybe revisit your first videos to see how excited you were to start the build or were you got your initial inspiration from. You’ll see you’ve come on a huge way, this is just a bump in the road, hang on in there.

Well done for posting this video mate. I'm 63 and converting a minibus into a camper and have been doing this for the past two years. It's refreshing to see that others have the same struggles that I have experienced over the past two years. I'm clueless but willing to learn. I've set up for a days work and spent more time thinking about what I need to get done than actually achieving anything. I live in a one bedroom flat. The bedroom is littered with the stuff I've bought to install but like you every time I think I'll get that done today there's always other things I need to do before. You've shown me I'm not the only one who has these problems and have inspired me to get out there this weekend and try and get a little bit more done. Keep at it you'll get there in the end. Maybe one day I'll bump into you on the road and we can have a beer and a laugh about our builds.

One of my favorite things about your videos is that you leave in the not so glamorous bits. This is a helluva undertaking man, and you're honestly killin' it to have no real carpentry/mechanical/electriclal background. There is a lot of moving pieces to a build like this and you're doing great and putting out great content in the meantime. Cheering you on from the sidelines man!

I'm a few decades older & have been where you're at too many times to count. No matter how much I'd plan & try to avoid problems they would happen anyway. Then I accepted that my life & daily foibles must be what keeps the universe entertained, so I no longer stress over setbacks. On the bright side, I installed my first 8 kw diesel heater in my garage last week and it works great with no error codes or the usual problems. I feel confident enough to throw away the box it was shipped in later this week.

I had exactly the same with my van build - write yourself a nice long todo list and keep knocking jobs off one by one. (Board marker pen on a panel!?) Deadlines are also good to have so you focus more on it being usable than perfect.

  • @NursingNean
    @NursingNean 2 роки тому +2

Thank you! Actually one of your best - what I LOVE about your van build videos is that you admit what you don't know, can't fix, can't figure out, and feel stuck about. My van is sitting in my driveway. She takes me to work and back, but I have done exactly NOTHING on her for 3 months, because, well. What do I do next? How will I do it? Is it the right choice? If I put it up, will I just have to take it back down again. Can I learn the skill or will it just look naff - or worse yet, ruin something I don't even think about. I HATE the You Tubers who do a van build and it's all rosey posey, time lapse, look how we did such a wonderful job aren't we special. Keep in mind that they then have to keep on lying about their build. Your van looks great. You seem to be able to live in her just fine. Perhaps you can just go travel for awhile with the current build? Maybe with a portable power box to run an electric heater? Keep on slogging through - seems like lots of folks are feeling similar right about now

Your an inspiration to all us talentless broke hacks that want to live in vans!

    You got this!

      @joline2730 2 роки тому

      YES!!! MAKE A LIST !! 😀
Then move everything around on that list in order of priority. Watch vanbuild channels (which I am sure you do, anyway !!) make notes, and you will feel more relaxed when you are organized.
Yes Will, you have hit a wall - but you get up and climb over it ✔
Don't get too down, fone friends and ask for help - lots of people like to help 👍
It was great hearing that you DID put on some protection as I was thinking it's so easy to have a mishap - especially when you don't really have the experience !! Glad you were not damaged.
      Keep the videos coming ✔💟💯🤩😀

Van builds are tough!! I think the van is looking really good, I know the feeling of getting stuck, it sucks!! Hang in there mate, these are the moments that few van builders show but all builders experience. Don't give up, you've already come so far. Everyone watching your channel wants you to succeed.
And well done on including the dangers of using a Dremel without face protection. Many people assume using such a small tool won't pose any risk, but it is still a power tool and capable of real damage.
Thanks so much for being real about where you're at.

    Will,
I’m a 62 year old grandmother, who has followed you for months through your Galaxy trips and now this new build. I hear your words and it fills me with such sadness, though I know much of what you say about being “overwhelmed” is just THAT! You’ve created a beast through YT that enlists your mind but NOT your heart at every waking moment and sadly, we in our thousands, who follow, have created the audience that gives you no let up. But we are not only your audience, we are here to support you too.
Be kind to yourself, it’s the winter months, COVID crap, lack of focus due to trying to do TOO many jobs at once, to appease your audience, that has you at this place. This is not how your life in this new build was supposed to be. We DO NOT expect you to have regular updates on video, we love to see you out and about, in whatever state your rebuild is at. DO NOT be so hard on yourself. Go off on a short local trip, take shoes and socks off, walk on the grass, whether wet or not, get reconnected… I know you know how! Breathe in fresh air. Spend the night, cook your fav pasta and have yourself a beer. Watch a bit of footie and recharge YOUR batteries. We WILL all still be here when you get back. You DO NOT need to film such. Everyone deserves a break and you are NO different. PLEASE do this for YOURSELF, for YOUR wellbeing, YOUR state of mind. Come back with a clear head and new vigour and focus. What will be will be. If your build takes until next year, it’s no biggie. We LOVE your vids, but we love YOU more. Stay safe, well and most importantly heart centred. You ARE all deserving.
    Sue x

Firstly got to say thanks mate! Thanks to you and your videos I went out and purchased my own Ford Galaxy last summer, converted it into my own micro-camper and it's been massive for me personally. It's genuinely changed my life. It gave me a passion and drive to get out and camp and just live a bit more freely. When you do stealth camps like your Christmas camp, it's clear to see how much happiness you get out of that as well!
I think you're putting too much pressure on your self to "finish the build" at whatever cost. It'll get finished at some point, there's no rush. If you're happy in it the way it is then great go out and enjoy it. No need to put unnecessary pressure to make every last little detail perfect and to have a fully completed van before you get to really enjoy it. Take some time off from the build and recharge your batteries would be my advice. Keep up the quality content either way!

No matter how big, or small, every little success... write them all down, then remind yourself (when you need to) how much great stuff you've done. When it feels like everything is going to shit, it's good to remind yourself that it's not- it just feels like it at times.

I had many moments like this with my build and feel your pain.
I remember days of just sitting and staring at it all feeling overwhelmed as you described.
Sometimes it is better to just walk away and do something else and come back to it with a fresh perspective, days or even weeks later on some areas. Seems counterproductive but I found it actually speed up the process.
I’m really enjoying watching your videos and like yourself I was learning as I went and made plenty of mistakes along the way. Literal blood sweat and tears went into my build but just to reassure you that it is all worth it in the end. You will get there and have a whole load of new skills you have picked up along with it.

Keep your chin up Will. All massive projects have problems you'll come up against. Years ago a partner of mine started building a racing car. From scratch. I spent so much time out in the garage helping as I'd never have seen him otherwise, but there were so many problems we faced over probably a 9 year build, just keep reminding yourself of what you'll get at the end of it. Don't try and do it alone if you need help ask for it or pay someone to help if you can afford to. Try and plan fun stuff to do with friends that are nothing at all to do with the van. If it's getting you down step away from it, go away for a weekend with some friends, have some other things to look forward to. I've absolutely no interest in building a van but for some reason I absolutely love your videos and content and look forward to every single new one. You'll get there in the end just try and be patient. You've got this 👍🏻

Hey Will: Having gone through a recent van build, I/we can totally relate. But perserverance and time will get you through. The best trick that worked for us was to do one small project (progress) at a time. To think of the whole project became too overwhelming. Sometimes just walk away from it and take a few hours/days (whatever it takes) and try to communicate with someone who has knowledge/experience about that particular problem may help. Once that project is done....then think only about the next one. Rome was not built in a day - i.e., our van build. Vice grips and clamps come in handy as another set of hands. Penetrating oil works better than WD40.

I can imagine it would be frustrating that the van, your key to freedom and relaxation, feels like the very opposite right now, especially as you've had to strip out so many of the things that would allow you to get away in it for a break. Thank you for sharing this, I wonder if you thought for a while about not doing so but I'm really glad you did. The time of year also adds to your depression. It tends to snowball. Sometimes when you run into those roadblocks with a project, there is no proper way to overcome the roadblock. You have to think out of the box. Then when you overcome that roadblock, it is a shot of adrenaline.
My last job was to replace the rear wiper motor on my car. I thought it would be an easy and quick job. But of course it was not. To complete the job, I had to let it go over night and improvise. The fresh start in the morning is what helped. I felt so good when I managed to get it installed and working.
