    Hi, I'm Charlotte Dobre. I'm an actor, reactor, singer and sometimes (not really) comedian. On this channel I do reactions, commentary and occasionally I make a joke or two. I love poking fun at social media, weddings, entitled people, tiktok and OF COURSE petty people. I upload daily, usually 7 days a week, unless life gets crazy or I get lazy. Not a con artist but I used to do some work in victim support and con artists DO depend on you being too embarrassed to tell anyone you got scammed, which is why it's so important to talk loudly about it and NEVER shame anyone who has confided in you

      I was going to say the same. They do know it's embarrassing to admit you fell for it, especially if they got your money. They count on or hope you won't tell people or search for other victims because you're embarrassed.

      While I do feel bad for people taken advantage of, and especially feeling bad if it is your parent but I think people need to see a breaking point and lessons learned. At some point you need to not feel bad and even shame these people after spending months to years debunking, finding evidence, PI's. All that time and money to help them shoved in your face, then no I am not sorry your about to be homeless, no you cannot move in.

      In a way yes. Grown up people have to look after themselves and take responsilility for their own mistake. Yet the "not shaming them" is a key to not empower further con-artists imo

      It’s actually pretty common - even worse is when the victims double down and insist that they weren’t actually swindled, but that “it’s a long term investment” or “he’s really a great guy” because shame is a powerful motivator.
      It’s especially common amongst conspiracy theorist groups, and how they can get radicalized into basically being cults

      This happens so often. The Catfished channel on UA-cam tries to stop it. Some of these people think they are talking to rich people stuck overseas or actual celebrities. They go bankrupt sending them all of their money. I’m amazed they can be so blind to the scam. They are usually old or just incredibly lonely. Some are just plain dumb.

      I did a background check on our oldest daughter’s partner! They started getting serious and I just looked at my hubby and said ‘I’ll be in my office.’! He knew exactly what I was doing. I’ve the credentials and security clearance to find out when someone passes gas let alone anything else. The partner came out clean on all but past relationships: a bit immature, controlling, very spoiled and was still living in his mum and dad’s house at 30, despite having a well paying job. We never said anything to our daughter, as she isn’t in any immediate danger and telling her has the potential to push her more into the relationship. I did have a nice wee chat with the lad though. I thought it went well, especially after he vomitted! 😂😂 They are still together, 2 years later but not living together. Youngest already knows I’m doing the same with her and she’s glad!

      @TheBaumcm 2 місяці тому +8

      I take the “trust but verify” tack. I will trust someone up to a point at first but I will start collecting red flag behaviors and if it hits a certain threshold, I will investigate further before committing to anything. Anything someone says, I assume could be a lie, because people lie. Doesn’t mean it makes someone a bad person and it might not be a big lie but trust nothing of what you hear and only half of what you see is a good rule of thumb.

    The MIL story reminds me of a romance scam involving a Canadian grandma. She flew to Ethiopia, and waited for weeks in a hotel room but the boyfriend didn’t show. He said he was busy working in Hong Kong and told her to join him. 2 men showed up with suitcases full of “gifts” that the boyfriend bought her. Most of the gifts were dresses that had a ridiculous amount of buttons sewed on. The grandma got stopped by Hong Kong police for drug trafficking. She stayed in a HK prison for years. An elderly priest in HK who was was familiar with the romance/smuggling scheme worked to free her.

He immediately got defensive and said he didn't mean to hurt me this much, just bring me down a notch because I'm actually pretty or else it would be really mean to call someone ugly ugly, he was just "putting me in my place". Honestly, a load of bs either way, didn't even last 2 months cause he couldn't properly communicate or talk to another person and head to use "techniques and strategies" to get me to like him and stay which I was already doing. There was a guy I dated once a few years ago who was hanging around the house one day when my Mom, Dad, and brother were also there. I don’t even remember how this came up because we were talking about something completely unrelated but he randomly says “This is what I thought you looked like when we first met”…and proceeds to pull up a picture on his phone of the wicked witch from the Wizard of Oz. I am stunned into silence and he is smiling and laughing showing the picture to my Mom and my brother who are also in shock. Dude is not reading the room at all thinking he’s being so hilarious when in reality my family is like “Is this guy for real” 💀 I went in the bathroom and tried not to cry while he also goes to find my Dad to show him the picture too.
      I found out later the reason he said that is because I have kind of a sharp nose which is what he was comparing me to I guess. When we first started dating he used to say stuff like “you’re hot” and “you’re too attractive for me” and stuff like that. Like if you genuinely don’t think I look like a model that’s fine but don’t say fake compliments and then drop something like that thinking it’s gonna be funny… especially when he thought it was gonna get a laugh out my family at my expense. Glad to not be in that relationship anymore lmao 😂👋

    The last story made me so angry. That is 100% a husband and wife (pretending to be his sister) scamming this old woman from the U.S. out of as much money as possible. He “works” 7pm to 7am, so he can go spend his nights with his wife and his kids that conveniently live with his “sister.” It’s all so transparent and ridiculous, how on earth could no one convince her of this? It also seems really unlikely that nothing could be done legally if she is 77. She could so easily be developing cognitive issues as she ages, and there are agencies that look out for the well-being of elderly people being harmed or stolen from.

    OMG, that last one was worrying. First, file a report with the Nairobi police, request they see if this man is married. He most likely is. His 24/7 job isn't at a hotel kitchen, but at a call centre. These centres are often gang affiliated (at least in different African states, but might be diff. in Kenya).
    Talk to the MiL's bank, transferring funds overseas is usually tracked. Get that documented then get an attorney to help file for power of attorney. With her behaviour it's likely that she's unable to say no to this man, these scammers are adept at getting money from the elderly, though this is a rare instance of them taking it to the extreme. A good thing is that once he burns through her money (and gets divorced) he will probably marry her to get a visa. Once he reaches the US and realises he can't get money from the family, he's going to go looking for other targets.
    These types of scams are documented, with elderly men and women. It's really sad.

    So, the second story, I'm not giving the guy a pass here, but the girl was very contradictory while she's telling this story. Sure, he was playing her, but she also seemed to be using him, saying that she wouldn't care to see him again, then they kiss all of a sudden. Doesn't want more, but friends him on Instagram. And why investigate him unless you were invested in something happening? I don't know, kind of seems like she's just looking for validation here, when I think they were playing each other.

      They were both swindlers. I got the impression she kept things going on the trip because it meant she got free alcohol and exclusive club access.
      In other words, even though she wasn't interested, she went along with it because she benefited from it.
      She was very contradictory and did not seem to possess the morals she claimed.

    You also need to clarify the point of negging is to knock the girl down a peg and make her feel insecure so the guy stands in a more powerful position - in which case put them in their place!!

    Am I the only one wondering why the girl in the second story kept talking to this man she allegedly found so annoying? Not her fault, but kind of gave him the wrong impression to keep going to all The things he invited you to and answer his texts even when you claim you don't want to.

    • @kenbrb6261

      why do you say that? just because she is trying on club dresses only means she has a great body, not that she's any "type" of girl - we shouldn't shame women - don't leap to old fashioned assumptions because of what she's wearing - she can accept a drink from a guy while she's out with her gf's (it's a normal thing - she's pretty, and she's single. so why not? ) - if she was wearing a hoodie while she was telling the story, would your opinion of her being "that kind of girl" change? let's not do that - it's 2024

    • @heatherduke7703
      @heatherduke7703 Місяць тому +1

      I think people are keying into the fact that she only had contempt for the guy but let him spend money on her and made out with him anyway. The guy is a jerk for cheating, but she was also using him. And he obviously was smitten with her, otherwise he wouldn’t have continued chatting with her after she turned him down.
