    About Lissa Rankin, MD:
New age gurus suggest that we can heal ourselves by simply changing our minds, but is this concept grounded in cold, hard science? Lissa Rankin, MD explores the scientific literature, reviewing case studies of spontaneous remission, as well as placebo and nocebo effect data, to prove that our thoughts powerfully affect our physiology when we believe we can get well.
    About TEDx:
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)

Absolutely! I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Melanoma in 1994. The following year, I had a metastasis to my right lung, the phrenic nerve, and the pedicardium.Doctors gave me 6 to 24 months to live. Instead of running away, my fiancee decided to marry me so that he could get a family leave at work and go with me to Athens, Greece where I took an alternative treatment. Everybody said the Greek doctor was a hoax, but we went on faith. My husband encouraged me to believe. His love and my spiritual practice of Christian meditation were the greatest placebo I received. I went into remission. I was very religious and I used to visualize Christ standing before me claiming my healing as part of my visualization therapy. Twenty five years later, I am still here. I continue to practice spiritual healing through meditation, affirmations, and prayer as part of my program.

I was five months pregnant with my daughter when I was told I needed emergency surgery or me and my daughter would die. I knew in my heart only one of of was coming out of the surgery. I was in very bad pain but I refused the surgery. I had so many experts promise me without the surgery we would die. I cried and prayed for three days and nights and I accepted death so I had zero fear. On the third day all of my pain went away and I carried her almost to full turn without any issues or pain. I did have to get emergency surgery a few hours after giving birth, but I now have a beautiful 26 year old miracle young lady. It's amazing what faith and the mind can do.

I was diagnosed with a 70% blockage to my heart in 2013. Several tests were conducted to confirm this. The day before angioplasty I went into a deep meditative/prayer state. During this long internal dialogue in my head I ended up feeling like someone was touching my shoulders and the weight and pain was gone. During the procedure the cardiologist was baffled at not being able to find any blockage. Whether it was angelic intervention or due to the deep meditative state, it was spontaneous healing. You can do this.

My own aunt was told she wouldn't live past 18. She lived to past 80.

As I see it, the placebo effect is enhanced by if not solely due to a positive attitude. I have always had a positive attitude. In 2003 I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Two years later I was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. My mindset after both diagnoses was that I would beat the disease and not define my life by it. I have been cancer free for 17 years. Despite Parkinson's being described as a degenerative disease I take no Parkinson's medications and am still living life to the fullest 15 years post diagnosis. What makes me different? I don't know for sure, but I embrace the placebo effect as a tool that I use every day.

I just got further in the video where she speaks about the doctor that said more than being in the mind it is the carer that makes the biggest difference. When my mother was first diagnosed and given 3 months by her doctor , I vowed I would do everything I could to make sure she would be well taken care of and hopefully live much longer. I pampered her with massages every day, sometimes 2-3 each day, the best and most nutritious food and meals she would enjoy --and be able to tolerate. I made sure she was surrounded by people she loved and the things she loved as much as possible. I was her 24/7 caregiver and did everything I could to let her know how loved she was. She told me, toward the end of her life, that she never would have lived those almost 17 extra years if it hadn't been for me. I couldn't take the credit for her survival because she was the one that did it, but I think the caregiving and caring definitely contributed.
If anyone has a loved one with cancer or another " incurable' illness, I think showering them with love and care can make a huge difference, either in how long they survive or the quality of their time ...or both.

I've tried this with my sister but her negativity is so strong, she's built herself an unbelievable strong wall to keep me out.
She's resigned to her imminent death so much so, she's already making plans because "cancer cannot be healed". Its so hard to live with her even though she witnessed that when our mom was going die, I brought her home with me and did for my mom what you did for yours. Our mom lived another 8 years.
My husband too was given one year but that was 4 years ago and he's still here living healthy and happy.
So very sad. Some people are so negative they can't be reached.
Its more than speaking positive thoughts, it's already feeling and living that you are already healthy.

My mother had an advanced stage 4 non Hodgkin's lymphoma. She didn't respond to several courses of chemo. Then, when at 1-2 years later, she was checked, the cancer was gone. She had a spontaneous remission and lived for over 16 more years, into her 80's. She did not die from cancer. Her oncologist, in the beginning, had given her 3months and told her to get her affairs in order, when he first diagnosed her. She was an amazing woman, who loved people and loved life, despite the fact that her life had been anything but easy. She was the most loving and generous person I've ever known. I'm so grateful I had those extra 16 years with her. I absolutely believe in spontaneous remission from seemingly incurable diseases.

This is not about killing medicine or taking away hospitals. This is about implementing changes in how doctors work and how we build hospitals. A hospital should be a relaxing mind calming place, where the doctors also evaluate the mind. This needs to merge with today's medicine to create a stronger system. Ignoring the evidence is just stupid.

But yours is a nice thought :) We the people can change things by: taking better care of ourselves & seeking holistic remedies instead of wanting a pill for every ill.

Nature doesn't work, that's their motto. Yet 60 to 70 percent of all pharmaceuticals originated from natural sources. First antibiotic came from a fungus, at least three in use today (probably more) come from fungus. A drug they use to suppress the immune system for transplant patients comes from a species of cordyceps mushrooms... A heart disease medication comes from foxclove plants which are poisonous. Oyster mushrooms have compounds that act like statin drugs, lowering cholesterol. But yeah. But I think the placebo effect works quite well. I watched this video on how your body literally holds onto stress and trauma. If u just concentrate on your body with a calm clear mind you can literally feel the tension. You tend to ignore pain. Use drugs to ignore it when u can no longer ignore it. I have a bad back and when I lay down and concentrate on areas in my body that has tension, my neck starts to crack on it's own, the tension extends from as far out to you toes but always extends back to ur spine. When u release tension anywhere in the body you release it in your spine as well.

The mind body connection is VERY powerful. We must all realize that we have control over our health and hence we have the power to change it. I agree, seeking a healthcare provider that is positive, nurturing, and compassionate is essential to support us in our healing. This is why I love my job, because I ALWAYS remain positive with my clients and find a solution that helps aide them in taking control of their personal power and showing them what they have and not what they don't have. The moment you change your perception, is the moment your rewrite the chemistry in your body.

I think the reason why it seems to work better if you're assisted by a doctor or health care worker is that we tend to believe more in authorities that we think know more than ourselves, than in ourselves. But if we really have enough faith in ourselves and in the process, we can do it ourselves. After all, the process is internal, all that it needs is the correct stimuli to start it and where that stimuli comes from, from outside or inside, doesn't really matter to the process.

When I was 12 years old, back in 1980, I had warts all over my hands and even had a large wart right under my lower lip. A military doctor--a Captain in the US Navy at Mare Island in Vallejo, CA--"hypnotized" me. Two visits of guided imagery and within two or three weeks all of my warts were gone. I had had them for over a year. My father said he wouldn't have believed it if he hadn't seen it with his own eyes. I told my 6th grade science teacher and he scoffed. But it was true.

My brother is a perfect example...he's constantly ill physically/mentally and runs to his doctor at the slightest sign of illness etc, I told him "if you want a better life...a healthier life...stay away from doctors and the NHS!" Good health and longevity is a frame of mind...optimism...positivity...good diet...exercise etc, do not take a doctors word as gospel as to what is wrong with you...it's all a guessing game with them, They do their best most of the time but ultimately it's up to us to help ourselves! Anything is curable with the right frame of mind...discipline...positivity...an optimistic outlook on life at all times, And stay away from negative people/situations etc!

I was an unexpected child, born to a mother whose husband died when I was 13 months old. Mom was born in 1903. Her mission in life seemed to be to raise me to be a perfect daughter... circa 1850 and before. I was born in 1941, just before WW II when the world changed drastically. Mom didn't tolerate the changes well. I often wondered why she hated me so much. It took many years to figure out that in seeking her family's love and approval, she was really hurting me. She was a hard-core hypochondriac! She used her many illnesses to get the attention she wanted. However, the message I got was "do as I say, not as I do!"
When I was very young, I swore I would never use illness to attract the attention I wanted. I studied ballet in Hollywood, and got the positive reinforcement I wanted by being asked to teach adult beginner ballet classes. I was about 14 when that happened. I taught ballet off and on for 35 years. I was active in community theater and have a scrapbook full of good reviews for acting, directing, costume design, etc.... almost all aspects of theater. And I was successful in several awesome jobs long before that was usual for almost any female being!
As I approach my 73rd birthday, I worry a bit more that I did in my youth, but I always recognize if for what it is. When nobody else pays attention, I "fix myself." I survived two potentially fatal car crashes, skiied face-first down some awesome ski mountains, was thrown from at least one horse... I healed myself quickly of the injuries and moved on with my life--always in search of my next adventure, always ignoring my mother's daily emotional abuse. In effect, and in my own mind, my response to my mother (later, to my equally hypochrondriacal elder sister) ... my response was ... hmmmm... rude, at best.
I've "advertised myself" as my own best placebo. I recognize that almost no doctor will ever be able to keep me as healthy and happy as I have accomplished for myself. I made a promise to myself. I've slipped from time to time, but only very temporarily until I realize that whatever I'm "suffering" from is self-inflicted and I end it as quickly as I can.
As far as I'm concerned, Dr. Rankin and others like her are absolutely correct: your health and well-being is in your hands. Your own mind is the most powerful medicine you have. I've been aware of that for most of my life. Statistically, I may be heading toward the end of my life, and that's okay. My almost 93 year old Aunt is amazing and lively, with a healthy sense of humor and ready (should either of us ever be able to afford it)... ready to get on an airplane and travel the world! It will be an amazing trip if we can pull it off!

Now I am full of love and peace. My life is so much better. Keep thinking positively even in your worst days, you’ll realise how strong you are and how you hold power to change your life. So I can't really answer this easily because I genuinely can't remember it was during a time of self preservation (Kundalini happened to me. ) But all I can tell you is that I paid attention to thoughts that brought me pure joy. My kids, my animals, the experience of a friend actually taking good advice and her life growing and becoming more fruitful etc. Then how life forces growth we all dread but it turns out even better than imagined. Just pure joy. And pretty soon I didn't need a thought to hang onto that emotion. It was great. You said something profound. “Bring the love to healthcare”. There is sooo much to unpack in that statement. You are right that we need to quite our inner self to activate our innate healing mechanisms. Our cells really are listening for our instruction. Intent is the key, we have the ability to reprogram every cell in our body thru stem cells that hold the undamaged template that will achieve balance in our body. We see a future when stem cells will be injected in the blood stream and taken to a tumor via a tracer. When surrounded by the stem cells the tumor cells will recognize the benevolent template of love and healing and reverse its malevolent processes. Yet ultimately we hold the key with our elevated consciousness to activate this process through our own intent and consciousness. Thank you for you brave work!!

The best Ted Talk I heard so far. It’s true. We need more humane and compassionate doctors, nurses and health care providers who can be instruments of healing. Thank you Dr Lissa Rankin for this great talk.

You have the power to heal yourself,
All illness can be healed, the cell regenerates,
    Disambiguated situation,
There is a secret code, the structure of the mind,
You have the power to heal yourself 🤘🤘🤘

Yes, this is the Mind-Body Connection. Hypnosis is the healing mode that allows the body to heal. Lisa Rankin, MD is fabulous! She did a great job of bridging the gap for physicians and patients, alike.

Totally curable. However, you need professional assistance - an intervention. If you suffer from panic attacks, you will need someone like me to perform subconscious psychological (mind) intervention to get to the heart of what is causing your fears and solve the negative conditioning and self-esteem issues behind it.

Meditation is good. If you can calm down on your own to meditate, you can slow down anxiety and panic attacks. Some can heal alone. Others need intervention into their thought process. Best of luck to you in your journey!

***** Thank you. Now I understand your question. The reason why you won't necessarily die in that instance is because the heart is not really going through an attack. To have a heart attack takes another feeling/belief. However, in the case of the kids pronounced to die early, this was the earliest memory for these babies. Therefore, it went into their very programming, plus their parents/families enforced the belief, even though they didn't understand it as babies. Their minds understood through tone, feeling and later experience. Between 0-7 is when the emotional/mental processing system is developed, so this was at a very sensitive time for those babies. After age 8, you would have to adopt the belief that you could die from the panic attacks, then you would have to be so stressed about it that it caused damage to the heart, which would lead to the heart attack. If you felt that you truly deserved to die (emotional trauma) - and you believed that the panic attacks could kill you, there would be a much higher chance of something deadly happening. You can't just fear cancer or heart attack and get it, but you can believe yourself well and start healing.

My wife of 15 years has been in the I.C.U. unit for over 2 weeks. She got there over an epileptic seizure. She was intubated by paramedics and flown to a big hospital. She was breathing on her own yet they kept her sedated on a ventilator. She contracted pneumonia from breathing tube. The antibiotics they gave her to fight the infection killed the good bacteria in her and she contracted cdiff. They removed the breathing tube and while layiing there sedated she had a pulminary embolism and was givin blood thinners . She had a hemorragre and stroke from the blood thinners and her heart stopped. They perforn cpr on her and give her blood with a clotting agent to stop the bleeding and she is back on ventilator. I finally stopped signing consent forms for treatments . It seems like everything they do hurts her. She has improved dramaticaly since they stopped. When she tries to sleep and heal a nurse will come by and disturb her. Please pray for healing for my wife Cheryl.

Our minds are powerful - the best tool we have. The Institutes for Human Potential is a good example. Mother's of brain injured children taught their babies to read, do math and much more.
Laughing heals. Norman Cousins healed his body of a fatal disease with laughter.
Food heals. My neighbor was dying of cancer and doctors said they could so nothing. She heard that a positive mindset can heal. She also began juicing by using a blender and cheesecloth because she couldn't keep food down. 2 years later she was free of cancer.
Fasting on water or juice while not popular with USA doctors has been used in other countries to eliminate cancer from the body.
Many paths to healing. We have so much to learn from each other.

Wow she got me back to who I am. I wont say my life story, but she is right. We can heal ourselves and it is true. The first time I got sick I was like about 6 o 7 and in those days I got a vaccine 😏 and got so sick that my mother took me to bed while I was crying. I told her " mami we didn't born to get sick" and she said dont worry baby you will be fine.
So I did. Good example of what she is revealing.
And through my life many experiences and Im still here.
Life has to be positive an full of happinessnand love.
    Thank you 🤗

This made a lot of sense, it helped me understand more about why I do the things I do. I’m currently in a situation where I procrastinate and think, “hmm... I can wait just a little bit longer.” I do this so much to the point where I don’t have any time to do what I said I could wait to do. Now if I only think that I can do it, I will be able To.
