- This week on ‘Has It Aged Well?’ we let our hair down (sorry Abbas), and headbang to our favourite guitar riffs because the film we’re discussing is Abhishek Kapoor & Farhan Akhtar’s ode to rock music from 2008 ‘Rock On’ starring Akhtar, Arjun Rampal, Shahana Goswami, Luke Kenny and Purab Kohli. Joining Abbas and Urjita for the discussion is comedian Mikhail Almeida. Topics discussed include: Did Rock On contribute to the rise of ‘Hindi rock’? Urjita is so so smart. I loved the point she made about the music in the movie from the perspective of Arjun Rampal and Farhan Akhtar 's characters in the movie at 30:31 I don't think her point got its due, it was such a refreshing and meta take!

Love the podcast generally! On this episode: Mikhail was initially like I'm Rock Ka Baap and then realized that Abbas was waaaaaayy ahead of him. Abbas never let his knowledge seem like arrogance, yet he managed to get Mikhail to simmer down: sign of a great host!

Like one of you said towards the beginning of the video, Rock On released when rock music was already quite big (at least in the metro cities in India). When the movie released, Indie bands such as Parikrama, Them Clones, Bhayanak Maut, Advaita were already huge. Nation-wide rock competitions were a thing (Campus Rock Idols etc). In the years after this movie released though, rock made a quiet exit and was replaced by Electro/House

Speaking of “Zehreelay,” Suraj Jagan is a terrific singer. Check out his cover of “Pehla Nasha” if you haven’t before.
The band's name is actually "Chakraview" and it was the name of Suraj Jagan's initial band during the onset of his career.
I felt Mikhail was a little much in the beginning but by the middle he became more chill and open to others opinions. Still he is funny.
Mikhail has been hands down the most fun guest you all have brought.

I'm 94 born. My parents and most of their friends really enjoyed Rock on because of their love for rock music and maybe a little wish fullfillment. I was also a part of the school rock band so the acceptance of different genres of music especially rock in Indian languages definitely increased.
Stop being so Mumbai centric..

Hands Down, Mikhail defending Zehreeley and debating why 'socha hai ..' isn't the best of Rock on is the funniest. His analysis of movies my Excel Entertainment...made me chuckle while watching 'Kho Gaye Hum Kahan' 😂😂😂
I may have listened to the podcast version of this episode almost 3 times by now and I still have a great laugh for straight 10min, 32:30 onwards.

I heard Rock On after having heard early Linkin Park, Green Day, so the rock songs on the album were very mediocre (loved Pichhle Saat Dino mein and the non rock songs though). But soon Dev D was released, and Amit Trivedi came in with Emotional Atyachar and Nayan Tarse and they blew my mind.
Then AR Rahman comes in with Rockstar.
Bollywood has not had many good rock albums, but these 2 were awesome.

Mikhail was too pessimistic and annoyed by everything. It got tiring really quickly for me. He knows a lot of things so he would be fun on Kvizzing with comedians, but a bit sore here
I dont know if evwryone recognises that the opening riff of the rock on song is the bgm of Lakshya when they are climing the final peak.

"Fakeer of Venice" is actually Farhan's first movie which hasn't released and not "Luck by chance". Mikhail you are 100% correct you have not followed his career... LOL! Luck by chance got made only because "Rock on" worked and only Farhan was ready to act in that as no actor was ready to play that character.

In socha hai the lyrics read teen hai Mausam kyun? For somewho grew up in Delhi I was like Mausam toh chaar hote hai. Rock on is the most MUMBAI movie ever coz there are three Mausam monsoon, monsoon ke pehele garmi, monsoon ke baad ki thodi si sardi
Haha, good point. I was thrown off by the three seasons thing when I first heard the song. I once read on Wikipedia that Delhi has five (!) seasons, but I also remember thinking that the differences between a couple of them seemed very small (I’ve only visited Delhi 2-3 times, so I’ll trust someone like you, who actually grew up there). Meanwhile, I’m sitting here in suburban Maryland-where it’s most definitely winter (the temperature is supposed to go down to -12°C overnight)-procrastinating because I’m too lazy to clean all this snow off my car. ❄️🌡️
This podcast popped onto my feed. And in the beginning the folks talked about how it is unlikely that a person from Kanpur would’ve watched it. That is the issue with people in Mumbai who have no idea how people consume pop culture in other states. You have no clue how big music scene and rock scene is in small cities of northern India and this movie was a houseful when it released in my small city in UP.

IIT Kanpur, IT-BHU, IIIT AND NIT Allahabad in UP, host some of the largest college festivals with rock band coming from each corner of the state. Rock scene in UP is bigger than the panellist give Kanpur credit for. Maybe get off the high horse and rethink stereotype Mumbai has about rest of the country?

The hosts (especially Abbas) in an attempt to appear cool keep giggling for no reason. interesting choice of films but needs improvement in the quality of hosts.
the amount of logic this guy is looking just makes me wonder is he really a comedian because I have seen lot of comedians do bits where they talk abt things either they did or their friends did I in life so losing a girls number and making a song abt it is just like that haven't u seen Seinfeld kid if not please do to understand

I love the show and Abbas and IVM, but the first few minutes of stereotyping Kanpur is downright disgusting for a show coming out of IVM.
