Christian and Islamic ideology very nature is predatory and proselytizing ,emboldened by its soteriology. The biggest paradox is the West prides itself upon the literary and cultural achievement of Greeks and Romans which the Christianity itself wiped out. He is propagating false khalistan narrative. They are not Sikhs but the creation of western establishments for a divisive narrative. Dont get him back. Neither did he narrate even 1 specific incident of human rights violation against Indians during his time.
Some of it is the std and official British story as taught in their schools even today. E.g. they 'left', not they were forced out, and millions died for freedom. Got Indians, especially Sikhs and Gurkhas, to fight their wars and underpaid them. Finally even stole India's harvests at gunpoint e.g. in Bengal....Millions died of starvation. Slave labour on tea, opium and rubber plantations here and elsewhere. Created Partition, like they have wherever they ruled. Many joined the army to pay their exorbitant taxes and save their own farms from being taken by the UK admin. Horror in Andamans, brought Afghans to torture prisoners. Remember 'caste' is a Portuguese word to describe European social norms.
I have known this amazing man for 50 years. In all that time I have never heard him speak so clearly and passionately on a subject which has been so impactful on who he is a man - a very good person!
By far this is the most genuine interview I have come across. Not politically driven, and an honest feedback by the British veteran. It shows honesty still prevails and people don’t want diplomacy. They want peace and a happy life.
Partition happened in 1947 was for good. However the biggest blunder of partition was failure to ensure transfer of the entire Muslim population of current Indian territory to Pakistan in 1947.

What an eloquent gentleman! At age 98, I will be very cranky and creaky. This lovable grandfather is a breath of fresh air with his perspective of life and wisdom. Thank you for this video. It was very educational 👍
It is good to hear, once in a while, someone who lived and believed the official propaganda from all sides. It gives a clear idea of what was the official line.
16:03 - Subhash chandra bose was the mayor of Kolkata, president of "Indian national congress" , founder of "Forward Bloc". He escaped from house arrest and travelled to Germany through Pak, afgan , russia and then reached japan to take leadership of INA. INA soldiers were former british Indian army soldiers.
Not all INA soldiers were ex British Indian Army soldiers. Many ordinary Indians living in Singapore, Malaya and Burma ( Myanmar) joined INA and were trained there. In fact , from state of Odisha those who joined INA were ordinary civilians. The story of a young Odia girl , just 14 years of age, was most interesting- Indira Lakhsmi Rath.
This is a masterpiece the old man deserves a huge appreciation for the age and the explanation. Every indian should watch this , this video deserves more likes and views

This is a profound and thought-provoking perspective. The transition from violence to non-violence is indeed a remarkable transformation. Becoming a doctor after a life as a soldier reflects a shift towards healing and peace-a subtle yet powerful nod to the principles of ahimsa and Gandhiji’s ideology. It shows how a single idea, once sparked in someone’s mind, can transcend generations, evolving into something more profound as humanity progresses. ❤ from India, Dr Neilson...
An excellent podcast. Very rare and informative. From a person who has lived and witnessed this part of history in real times. A documentary should be made from information one can get from him. It will be valuable lesson for the younger generation.
Wasted opportunity in my opinion. Everything he said is very clearly written in history and that’s where most of his knowledge came from. He read it. Just like I’ve read it. You should have asked him questions that are relevant to his experiences. You did ask one or two but you should have focused on them during the interview. He was a regular soldier in the army so instead of questioning him about large scale politics, ask him about specific things that he witnessed during that time. Also your questions are very generic with no specificity. Ask him what his superiors used to talk about. Was there a discussion among various ranks of Brits to leave India or to stay in India. The podcast was missing intelligent questions. Waste.
My grandfather passed away 4 years back at 94 years of age. Now as a Hyderabadi, my questions were mostly how was it being a Hindu under Muslim rule. Now many would say Nizams were very secular leaders and blah blah blah. But he was very blunt when he said, hindus were treated as second class citizens. Majority of the people holding big positions were muslims when they formed only fraction of the Hyderabad state. He was a tehsildar in Hyderabad state and quite educated.

It is interesting that Sardar Patel is mostly forgotten amongst the names of active figures wanting United (One) India at the time of independence...I'm sure there are many that are missed.
Its normal and part of life, not deliberate. People end up idolising Tendulkar, Kohli, Pele, Maradona, Muhammad Ali, Michael Jackson without realising and acknowledging their support system - thats karma for each; not deliberate manipulation of history or narrative. Ashoka is more known then Bindusara but if you ask me Bindusara deserved more greateness than Ashoka and Chandragupta Maurya. These things happen in life to all of us - human, animals, plants and birds. There is no conspiracy behind these things. We love peacock and parrots but there are 1000 other beautiful birds about whom we dont even know.
@bennyanil3793 are you serious? 😀... Who wanted Pakistan? Who became the PM? Who supported separation, Sardar? Good joke! Your knowledge is impressive 😄

Dr James' stint in Burma that he is talking about - my Dad was also in Burma at that same time in the British Army and fighting against Japan. My Dad used to tell us a lot of war stories and how he survived bullets passing close to millimetres from him. He is no more but my 95 years old mother still continues to recollect and tell us many incidents from that war in Burma. It's amazing how even after 90+ years their memory is so good. As long as I read , Mahatma Gandhi had a plan to accept building a corridor connecting Pakistan with Bangladesh through middle part of India which was an absurd idea !! This made some nationalistic Indian to be furious.
It is natural that his bias is based on British media views of getting astonished how it was a hindu who killed gandhi.... ... But it was far sighted ness of ghodse just like veer savarkar, who in those days were declared wrong& offenders but this generation on hindsight are in awe of ghodse & savarkar.... Hence leftist & British views & ideology has been outdated & colonial.... Which is considered wrong by the population now.
This gentleman is close to my grandfather's age, if he was still alive. My grandfather was in the British Indian Army around the same time as this person. He had nothing but very fond memories of his British peers and supervisors. He was groomed to be a leader by his British superiors and was commissioned as an officer during WW2. After independence, he was offered to transfer his commission to the British Army and move to England. He chose to stay back and serve his country. The British may have hurt India in a million different ways. But they left India with a professional military that is its pride to this day. Even after Independence Britain helped indian military more than anyone else. Two things can be true simultaneously. British colonization was bad for India whole Britain also left India with great institutions that helped it succeed.
The British called the Indian Civil Service (ICS) as "the Steel frame" which would provide an efficient apolitical administration to serve the best interests of the country. Unfortunately that "steel frame" is now all rusted thanks to incompetent people being recruited under the guise of "social engineering" policies. IN 1962 Nehru in his letter to all the CMs warned of the very adverse impact on India due to these "social engineering " policies, but it was too late. The genie was already out of the bottle !!!!
My great grandfather as well was in the British Indian army and fought in the Burma theatre of WW2 . They were a tremendously inspirational generation.
I should thank the anchor for letting us listen to the Scottish Gandhian, a living library of transition India. May God bless him and us all. Thank you.
This is one of the best podcast from a very honest and brilliant human being who has lived a blessed life as a soldier and doctor. Being from India myself , I am humbled by Mr Neilson's honesty and wisdom. He brings out the best out of us. Thank you Sahas.
Indeed, he regrets his role in the Havelian Abbotabad riots. And now he is advocating dialogues to be the way out of conflicts. Every conflict has a point of way out only after many lives are lost in the heat of battle!
Such a sweet gentleman. He must have been a young open minded person when he came to India all those years ago. I liked it when he said he never felt threatened in India. I know my family that was deeply entrenched in the freedom movement would never the less have British friends living with us of and on as guests. I guess we are all subject to emotional responses from childhood because he contrasted royalty with autocracy and yet it is the autocratic face of the government that it represents in contrast to the democratically elected representatives.
A few minutes ago I wrote something by listening to the first half of the conversation. Was wondering why the topic Unified India was not continued. But thank you. You brought it back.
I mean we as Indians still havent been able to digest the fact that british people were not fully responsible for the partition. India's destiny with partition had already been written the day Islam invaded India. The fall of west and east pakistan was inevitable. Take Afghanistan for example, after it was occcupied and the hindu sikh and Buddhist population was cleansed and converted, the break of from India was confirmed. What we should be concerned about is that why we do not hold our leaders accountable for full population exchange.
@Likha489 you are right britishers did this to every country they were made to leave...Here in Indiabthey were successfully able to create a divide on the basis of religion
I do not like history much.. But This is the only podcast made me to awe struck with history.. I was going back and forth to understand the conversation even more clearer. Few discussions made me to listen again and again. Wonderful video. Making a person like me who dislike history to like it is really a History!!!!

When muslims were ruling India, there were no jalian Walla bagh like messacres. Honourable and great visionary muslim bravehearts ruled India for one thousand years. If they had messacred Hindus , there would have been no Hindus left. They gave knowledge, art, culture and architecture to India. Otherwise India was called, saperon ka muluk, . Muslim rule was progressive, but British colonizer rule was divided and rule and loot. Now India is today ruled by mentally sick hateful criminals. he still doesnt have any idea about alot of things even now. After living such a long life, he had the opportunity to learn and investigate, but like most european people, they feel the universe revolves around them, and as long as THEY themselves are in a comforable position and have their narrative as dominant in the world, they have no consciousness or desire to even learn about another people's perspective/narrative beyond the convenient surface.
@@williamvance3271 I was born and raised and lived in UK all my life, so i know a thing or two about european/english people, good people and bad people. I dont think this man is a bad person, so i dont say what i say with harsh judgement, but am just stating a sad reality among many of the people in the west. Too many of them just live their lives on the comfortable surface, and very few delve deep enough to understand anyone elses historical reality or narrative. In my long 50 years living and working among english people, i have only perhaps come across 1 english person, who had even a small amount of awareness of other people's history, beyond the false narratives that their society spins around them. That doesnt mean i hate them or even dislike them, because i recognise that some people just dont have the ability to comprehend other people's reality, simply because their society doesnt foster it, so they simply arent able to or even aware of anything beyond themselves, thats all. I can still have compassion and love for them, and get along and have friendships with them, even if they arent capable of understanding the narratives and reality of my historical expereince, in the same way that we have love and compassion for children and young people, even though they have not yet reached the ability to understand the deeper more complex reality of the adult world. Stating this sad factual reality is necessary for those of us at the receiving end of the impact of other people's lack of awareness and deeper learning, because it continues to add to the confusion and lack of self knowledge, pride in identity, and correct awareness of history among the formerly colonised socieites, and acts as an obstruction to their healing, and prevents a healthy self awareness, learning from mistakes, to make healthy future progress without falling for the same errors and mistakes they did in the past.

I felt the same! He should be open and respectful to him. We know that whatever happened was wrong but when you are listening to someone on the other side of the coin, you have to keep your mouth shut and ears open.
You are right

You should stop interrupting your guest dude. The gentleman is mid sentence and you turn the conversation in another direction without letting him finish the thought. So just chill out from next time. And let the guest do more talking and you try to extract more from them rather than showing how much you know.🤷♂️

Waste.
True…he could have asked better questions! Interviewer was in a hurry.

Sardar is one among the leaders who supported united India and later he supported partition

Unfortunately only the Military remains incorrupt all the other government institutions,Police being the worst are corrupted.

As you can see a lot of comments here about interviewer becoming interruptor !
The gentleman is very well articulated. I like how he can have conflicting opinions in his head, evident by his thoughts on Scotland and Khalistan.
Indeed, he regrets his role in the Havelian Abbotabad riots.
And now he is advocating dialogues to be the way out of conflicts.
Every conflict has a point of way out only after many lives are lost in the heat of battle!
You are not letting him to complete his answer and asking another question
British were fully responsible for Partition in India and many other parts of the world

This guy was 20 year old during freedom. No way he had any idea
he still doesnt have any idea about alot of things even now.
@@edres7563 Harsh judgement, most of us live lives that revolve around ourselves whether we are European or otherwise.

We should read and remember our history
But should not hate present day Brits
They became good people nowadays
Very secular and democratic and humanitarian
British created Pakenstein by criminal partition of Bharat .
British paying for it today with Pakenstein Rape Gangs going on a record gene change spree .
Why are you sorry, stop being sorry, they had no remorse and they havent even apologised till date as a country for all the atrocities commited, what on earth are you apologising for ?
You should talk more about Subash Chandra Bose
are we sure he is being honest ?
Nope. He’s a leftist. And he’s pro British.
British are never honest
He is blaming british being british. How much he can be honest.
He is honest but basically and honestly repeating the official version as told to him, then a young man,
Don't compare england and scotland for india and khalistan...sikhs have fought with us..for us...not against us..they have their whole existence in india.
Correct. Also India welcomed them with everything possible when they fled Pakistan: free homes, loans, education, money, int'l farm experts. Punjab became the granary of India after massive input, irrigation, special seeds , fertilisers, etc. (by Nehru) for decades.
We Kashmiriz too want separation so stop it Indian
So I am just a guy living in UK and trust me I know these old folks they are very intelligent and they know how to manipulate the facts and understand the the impact it will have and every statement of has an agenda
And what exactly are the facts which you speak of??😂😂
Let me take a guess, you're a muslim pakistani??
Right??
98 ki age me bhi poltics khelni hai inko😊😊
Could you share an example? (I don't want to stereotype them all though, but i do like to hear both sides).
@@kizryuver tbh I can’t but I have been fortunate enough to be involved in the House of Lords and I have met people who are retired but where highly ranked previously and I know how diplomatic they are and about the Uk government they are expert in manipulating facts and change people prospectives biggest example is the BBC if you think godi media is worse then watch BBC and then try to find the actual authentic resources material about the incident they covered and I am pretty sure this podcast wasn’t random
@@Amankhan-ci8zt thanks!having a deeper explanation from you helps..i understand diplomats change perspectives with just discussions, but I guess I should really get those Daniel levitin or Robert malones works on information manipulation..if you got any author,yt channel, book recommends I'd check those too. I wonder how this person truly feels though. I.e sure this may be for diplomacy but if they also truly feel that way I wouldn't mind it being for diplomatic reasons too. But if they're being made to say that without them feeling any of it then it's just sad. But even lies are usually mixed with some amount of truths to be convincing..so pretty sure they really did feel certain things.
I can't believe finally we have someone in an internet in this age who is of that era and saw and lived and telling it first hand
Here, In Britain the brain wash is happening on " Kohinoor dimand " . The media is brain washing people saying that it is not stolen but it is gifted from India😂
No it’s not
Anything a powerful British official wanted, he forced the powerless king or owner to 'gift' it.
The interviewer jumps around from one topic to another. Need to learn how to stick to a train of thought and transition cohesively from one topic to another.
Maybe he doesnt want to hear the whole truth.
Yeah
No disrespect to your guest but he doesn't know the difference btw Hindi and Urdu.
And you missed on a very very important question that who as per him got INDIA her independence, was it non violence, violence or was it poor financial situation of Britain.
The threat of violence, lack of other resources to bring to bear against the soldiers who were by then by and large behind the quit India movement, the vast number of trained and war hardened soldiers with experience conducting guerrilla warfare. These were practical considerations.
There is hardly any difference between Urdu and Hindi. But it is important to know Urdu is an Indian Language.
You're Delusional the Words 'Mukhtalif,Mushkil' He was speaking were Urdu not Hindi Infact You also In Your Day to Day life Converses in Hindustani(Combination of Hindi and Urdu) but that Time Urdu was Widely Spoken instead of Hindi
Wonderful interview thank you.
