Haha that’s awesome though I’m glad if it was helpful. Like you said though if you never have to do it you it doesn’t prepare you to go out of state. You’re the only state that’s full serve anymore.
Yeah. They don't teach us in any of the other 48 states either, dumbass. It's very self-explanatory, and if you actually need instructions on how to do this, you shouldn't be driving two tons of steel down the road.
@iRifle87 yes, for pointing out how sad it is that you actually need instructions on how to do the most mundane of adult tasks, that must mean I'm just a sad, angry person. I can't impress upon you just how pathetic and elitist other states see you guys for this.
@iRifle87 I'm dead serious. If you ACTUALLY needed to look up a UA-cam video to figure out how to do something the display on the pump already tells you how to do, you are not responsible enough to be piloting a two-ton weapon down the interstate.

I had no idea so many people didn’t know how to pump gas. The way I learned was just growing up, I’d step out the car and talk to my parents while they pumped gas. I never had to ask anyone how it was done I just saw it get done so much I knew what to do. It’s funny to me how things like this can be such an enigma. I have no concept of the kinds of circumstances that could cause someone to not know well enough how to fill up a car with gas, while also knowing well enough how to look up a UA-cam tutorial. It is interesting. Everyone has different life experiences, so maybe they grew up without being able to watch someone or just used public transportation, or never took an interest until they needed to, I don’t know.
i never really got out of the car while my parents pumped gas, so while I got the basic gist of it, it’s nice to have a step by step to be more confident your first time

I was recently in Astoria , Oregon , I live in Washington State . The woman putting gas in my car wanted to " round up " to an even amount . Though the pump clicked off , meaning it is full . Going beyond this as they say will damage your emission system , charcoal canister . I told her no and mentioned this , which I don't think she knew about . So , when traveling through Oregon , be sure to mention NOT to fill beyond the pump shutting off .
Haha I hope it goes well! The main difference since I made this is they now have chip readers, instead of just swiping your card, which takes a little longer.
New driver here as well, thanks for this video and the comments about auto shut off. I was down to a quarter tank of gas so I had to learn now. 😁 new car an all.

Question: How does it determine how much gas to put in? Like do I have to enter the number of gallons or make sure to stop it before it's full? Thanks.
Yea, I live in Jersey and you're not allowed to pump your own gas. It's actually illegal, so there are no self serve gas pumps in the entire state. I am soon to be 23 and I've never pumped my own gas.
Hey thanks for this video. I wanted to know if a latch/lock doesn't work and you have to hold the pump how will I know when the tank is full ? Does it click or does the pump get stuck to let you know .?
I've only filled up my Gas once as i'm still a learner - but I believe it will stop even if you're holding it. If you want to be 100% sure and not overflow your tank or anything, it might be a good Idea to get some general knowledge on your car and how many gallons of Gas your car can hold. If you know that, then once you get low on gas (like sub 40 miles probably) you can just look at the price gauge telling you how many gallons of gas it's filling up and stop when it's around how much your car can hold (just a little method i thought of to be safe, haven't put it to test though but if you're filling it up that way, stop filling it up when you're at least a gallon less than what your Car can hold).
Yes it will shut off when it’s full even if it doesn’t have the little handle to keep it open and you have to hold it the whole time. The nozzles can sense when it’s full and shut off in time.
In my home country, there purpose to have a guy to help you to pump. I have over 10 years driving experience but I don't even know how to pump it by myself , thanks a lot
I grew up in another country and lived in Oregon for years so I def needed to watch this video :) Thank you, still need to pump, but I'm sure I'll do fine.
I've been pumping gas since the 1970's although in those times you did not have the easy credit/debit features. Other then the cold weather I don't mind it, I can keep some type of tab on what is going on. I guess this big question is; why is Oregon making this change now? Mandate or what?
Long story short, mom comes home and tells me most of the pumps near our house are self serve now... uh oh 😅 No more uh oh now lol. Thanks for the vid!
Hey thank you. I'm not a new driver I've just never left Jersey before. We don't have self service over here and I'm leaving the state to see my gf in Ohio. I feel so embarrassed but wanted to give some love to the creator
Wait... Green pump handles mean diesel over there? That would confuse the crap out of any Brits visiting, as the colours are reversed over here in the UK.
Wow that’s interesting. Yeah green is diesel. The nozzle is bigger than gasoline though so there is really not a way to put diesel in a gas car by mistake as some are saying. I suppose you could put gas in a diesel car by accident though.
Congrats to everyone who just got their liscence watching this because drivers ed didn’t teach us how to pump gas (:

felt so dumb googling this but it was a huge help for real. having to travel out of jersey for the first time and now i'm not so nervous lol
No worries I’m glad if it helped!
You’re welcome. I hope it helps.
Diesel has a yellow handle in Canada
I just got my license and don't know how to pump gas. I'll be trying this in a few, thank you!!!
Ok good luck!!
Thank you man! Bet you guys will never guess which of the 50 states I'm from 🤣
You’re welcome! Yeah that’s a tough guess. 😂
Smart Easy DIY I mean, there's 50 of em right? How could anyone guess?
Right?! 😁
I grew up in another country and lived in Oregon for years so I def needed to watch this video :) Thank you, still need to pump, but I'm sure I'll do fine.
Yes, I’m sure you’ll do great! 😁👍
Mostly Oregonians are watching this video, and we know why😑
Are you from Oregon?
Smart Easy DIY yep, been here most my life, and this is heartbreaking news for us.
Wow that’s cool though. It’s beautiful there. Yeah it probably is cuz you’ve been used to it that way forever.
What is your current price for regular? Pretty comparable to mine?
I've been pumping gas since the 1970's although in those times you did not have the easy credit/debit features. Other then the cold weather I don't mind it, I can keep some type of tab on what is going on. I guess this big question is; why is Oregon making this change now? Mandate or what?
Thanksss, my parents taught me a few times as I was learning how to drive, but I forgot because I didn’t get to do it enough, so thanks!
You’re welcome!
Mmmmm that gas looks yummy
Hmmm 🤔
@@SmartEasyDIYer uuuuuh what?
Never thought of gas as yummy before… lol
@@SmartEasyDIYer I love how it smells and I lick it when it’s dripping
Long story short, mom comes home and tells me most of the pumps near our house are self serve now... uh oh 😅
No more uh oh now lol. Thanks for the vid!
😂😂👍
so Oregon was the only state still living in the 80’s?
Haha well NJ still is full service too.
More like the 50s.
Hey thank you. I'm not a new driver I've just never left Jersey before. We don't have self service over here and I'm leaving the state to see my gf in Ohio. I feel so embarrassed but wanted to give some love to the creator
Thank you I appreciate it! I’m glad if it was helpful. Safe travels.
I suppose you could put gas in a diesel car by accident though.
yeah thanks for this video because i need to know how to do this before i actually own my first car
You’re welcome! Good luck with your first car!
Dont teach them. Let them struggle.
😄
Meanwhile in Oregon...
