- Few coins in the South African 2nd decimal series are as elusive as the 1965 Afrikaans R1. Recently one came up for auction and in this rare opportunity, those that witness it was able to see what such a coin would sell for in an auction. This kind of information is incredibly valuable and it's exciting to watch as well.

Thank you to "Francois" which allowed the use of his original post in this video.
I have this coin sir am from mauritius
Hi sir, I've got this coins ,R1 AFRIKANS ,50C ENGLISH ,20C ,10C ,5C, (AFRIKAANS AND ENGELS )
Is the 1967 Afrikaans coin valuable too?
I have a 1985 R1 coin
Nice, if it's in top condition, typically up to R20 in value. Keep on collecting.
I have A collection of 1965 coins.
One of them are A 1965 50c and A R1.
I would really want know to know how can I sell ot auction them?
Hi there. Interesting. You have to look very carefully. If the 1965 R1 coin is Afrikaans, i.e. "Suid Afrika" and in good condition (like to coin in this video), you're looking at R15,000 plus. If it's English, i.e. "South Africa", it's worth around R200-R600, depending on condition.
For the 50c, the opposite applies. If the wording is in Afrikaans, then a few rands. If it's in English, then the price would be upwards of R20,000+ Quality will play a huge role here. If the 50c is uncirculated and in English, I think R100k easily.
Best places remain the FB groups like the one in this video. You'll get a fair price. The people are also quite nice.
@@penniesshillings thank you for getting back to me. I appreciate it.
I've Been trying to sell them for a long time...and there are guys out there that are scams.
The R1 is in English and it was Circulated. And in good condition.
The 50c is a Suid Afrika Version.
Can I get the group information on Facebook. I like to try my hand there, in auctioning it.
@@elijahnaicker2275 I assume you are from South Africa? ...the group is called "SOUTH AFRICAN COIN COLLECTORS GROUP (SACCG)"
@@penniesshillings Yss I am from South Africa, KZN.
I'll try out the group later today.
Thanks again.
I have 1 rand 1965
Should you clean your old coins?
Well, if the coin you are cleaning is close to "face-value", then cleaning it would have no/little impact. If it is a truly rare coin, I would not recommend you clean it. The only exception to that rule is PVC. That stuff needs be removed asap.
Where in south Africa can I sell my old coins

Just bought 1968 proof set
Very nice! The short set? (i.e. without the gold coins)
@@penniesshillings no took the long one with gold coins
Will now have get them graded
Do you think I have to grade in the US or will SANGS do?
@@reprimand33 congratulations on an awesome set! Getting them graded? That's a really tough call. Grading has becomes very expensive. NGC for example it works out around R500-R700 per coin. Ouch! SANGS's is still working on their reputation imho.
For the proof sets, I personally prefer them ungraded in their box as they were originally intended. The grading cost does not warrant the increase in value.
@@penniesshillings the only issue is that on the reverse it seem frosted or losing it shininess
I want to preserve it mostly
But I agree with you
I have a 1955 2 shilling where can i sell it

Facebook groups is your best bet. Don't look to make a quick buck. The vast majority of coins are worth just a few rands.
Where are you located?
