- The South African half penny was minted from 1923 until 1960. There are many key-dates during this time and many of these coins are really beautiful. Many can be bought for less than R5, but some of the real stunner surpasses R100,000.00 ($5500).

I started collecting old money back in 2006...I do not have a clue about what it's worth or anything, it was just a sudden interest! The oldest coin I have is a 1880 half a penny queen Victoria is on it, I dont know...lol😂 but I want to know: how do i clean my coins?! And then I have a big ass note with Sadam on it and a lot of old SA coins and notes...I have a lot. And, please, where can I buy a money album?! Please, if anyone can help. Thanks a million!
That's excellent! Keep at it and keep learning. In terms of cleaning, best you don't clean at all. If the coin is not worth anything, then sure, cleaning is okay, but for a valuable coin, cleaning can completely destroy its value. Money albums can be had at ebay, bobshop, facebook, etc. I prefer the 2x2 flips (bobshop again). These take up little space and allow you to handle your coins with out damaging them. Keep at it!

The 1971 seems to be a rare coin, I suggest you watch online auction on similar coins. For a more exact value, you could take it to a coin dealer as well to get it appraised.
