    In a punch, kinetic chain sequence dictates that hip rotation is done with the legs and shoulder rotation is done with the core. This means shoulder rotation, done with obliques, is an important link in the sequence for increasing force.

    Shane, I have some questions that might be good to answer in a video:
    1. Can you explain to us how fighters are compensated when a fight gets cancelled? Like Mighty Mouse was supposed to fight in the last PPV and the fight got cancelled because his opponents wasn't able to get medically cleared. DJ prepped, went through an entire camp, paid all of his trainers, partners, nutritionists, etc and then wasn't able to compete for a payday, through no fault of his own. Does he still get paid? It would seem criminal not to compensate the fighter who did nothing wrong, but couldn't have the fight he for which he trained.
    2. How do some fighters like to prepare/recover after weigh ins? Do they try to eat and drink to recover and rest up? Do they continue to train and spar? I would assume they'd just recover and should be as prepared as possible by that point.

    Bro. Great videos. Keep up the work. Teacher question: your comment about the shoulder, I agree with. I am starting to talk about it as "dimensionalizing" the hooks but I tend to have to help people way break the elements down before they can feel biomechanically correct. Do you find value in isolating elements of the punch on their own, then examining the movement as a whole again "under pressure"?

    In my experience (which isn't very exhaustive) the arm/shoulder movement comes after the fist comes into contact with the target. This way you get a snap into the punch. This is similar to the straight punch in karate or JKD (though the technical execution of the punch in the two system are different). Would love feedback and comments and criticism (hopefully constructive!). Happy training

    I really don't know many people who rotate only hips or shoulders. The short punches are faster, but the long ones are stronger. In the hook you're doing with the stiff arm, the shoulder has minimal effect, it's the pecs that do all the work.

    So I have been to tons of gyms, tons of trainers, many times the coaches would say "stop punching from the arm, power and speed comes from the floor!" Since I was young I had preferred to fight with my hands lower. I'm a tall lanky person, I don't carry much power either I accept that so it just never felt right to keep a tight guard. If I wouldn't punch "from my arms" it felt VERY FUCKING WEIRD! I spent 2 years punching with only my hips legs and shoulder and it ruined me for some time. Thank you for this video to help other kids learn sooner that there's all sorts of ways to do all sorts of techniques, experiment. Some people may not use so much of one muscle group, some others may. I agree that I find punching more with the arms and not rotating so much the "correct" way for me. I'd say this applies to Thai kicks also. I left boxing and started Thai boxing around a year ago and many trainers would say "USE MORE HIP! MORE HIP LEAVE YOUR LEG LIMP!" and it is true you do not want a stiff leg but you still want control of your leg in my opinion. Don't over rotate with the hip and also use your leg to complete the kick.

    I read that its good to rotate hips slightly before the shoulders, so it snaps the shoulders around harder, like an elastic, works good for me, and yeah, that not moving the arm with hook dont look right, should whip out all your punches, like u do with the correct hook.

    If you want to knock someone out then simply follow this guys stance but drop your shoulders just before you unload your right cross effectively turning it into a right straight, in doing so you transfer the energy that you are holding in your left arm trying to defend yourself into your hips, dropping your arms also causes momentarily confusion in your enemies eyes, now that you have dropped your arms for a split second you are now generating power from the swivel in your hips thus using your legs, to step and turn, hurtling your right arm from your midrift and a cocked back positioning to throw from slightly underneath to land straight on the whole oral/nasal position of your opponent causing enough pressure on the jaw and nose bone to thrust the head back far enough at such a speed it causes the opponents head to jolt backwards so far that it takes them off of their feet and to be heavily concussed but at the same time it doesnt cause them brain damage as this punch actually makes the brain and the nervous system react in a manner of shock so strong that it makes you feel like you have just popped out of a toaster.

  • @denmyos
    @denmyos 7 років тому

    i agree with you on the left hook. But for a beginner its to much information. Its alot easier for them to understand hip rotation, "stiff elbow", and more or less stiff shoulder. And when they got that down, we can start talking about also moving the shoulder, when doing the left hook. For Some students it will take 2 lesson for others it will take a lot longer. :)

My hip is already at its farthest as my left knee is facing out, so how do I throw in the weight of my body in the left punch? Stepping in is one way, but how do I rotate...?

      My first mma fight was last night, I realized something very important. Its not the big wound up super kick that drops someone. It is the fast snappy effortless kick while they are in the right position that drops them. I threw a fast teep/pushkick at my opponent in his right side and broke 3 of his ribs and it was just a fast snappy kick i didn't even think about
