Thats what sucks about these shows and is why so many didn't want to see Derek do it. They take all the cool parts out to condense it down, because they want a complete build in each episode. I'll never sub to motor trend, there's way better stuff on youtube for free
@@larryhall6416 I’m talking about last September long before either the RR or VGG videos were on UA-cam. The truck was displayed and it was the first time hearing about it. He was there in the Delorean and it also wasn’t in a video that had been posted yet. Obviously he has a method to the madness of his upload schedule.
I had a 1991 Chevy C1500 short bed that I put 197,000 miles on it. It had that same TBI injection. I never had any issues with it at all. But I did put 5 water pumps in it, 3 sets tires, two brake jobs, an ignition module, and a set of intake manifold gaskets.
I dig Derek and pretty much everything about Vice Grip Garage, but his comment on GM TBI is completely unfounded. I've owned pretty much every GM fuel injection system, other than the original Rochester system on the C1/2 Corvettes and the most reliable of all time has always been TBI.
That's what gets me with VGG and this show - the man has some really odd (see: wrong) opinions about things. Throttle body injection is terrible and brake cleaner is the absolute worst thing for an engine because in the milliseconds before it's burned it'll somehow wash out the gallons of oil he apparently thinks are stored in the cylinders. Meanwhile, oil breaking down is a myth and as long as it's not straight water you don't really need to change it after 50 years - someone on a forum in 2004 said so. What really made me check out was watching him struggle for half an episode because he wouldn't let a Cadillac run for five minutes so the computer could learn. I mean, I don't build top fuel engines or anything, but I wouldn't let this guy work on my lawnmower. And MT trying to shoehorn him into other shows like they did with Magnante really feels like Roadworthy Rescues is not meeting their expectations.
The GM TBI is simple and reliable. Plenty of cars and trucks still using them everyday. The USPS is still delivering mail in LLV's for 38 years which is just a square S10 with a Iron Duke 4 cylinder with TBI.
this is my favorite year model, i have a blue and white 87 fleetside short box but id love to have the dually and do exactly the same that was done to this truck 🙌
When you want to fit this in 22mins, the % of time spent on power washing old engines is astounding. Who is editing this?? It really advanced the story and developed the vehicle as a character...
they all think its junk, it so is not! in my 3 diff tbi trucks, all i ever needed to replace was 2 fuel pumps. thats it. theres a reason holly made them for jeeps 35 years ago
I actually really like the old GM TBI's. They're super simple and you can still get data loggers/telemetry gear for them and they run like a truly perfect carb would run, hot cold no matter.
Good to see Dave again. I thought I saw some dirt there somewhere… Mice probably got in thru the hole in the valve cover where the oil filler cap was supoossed to be.
my dads company has always had chevy trucks. the oil pumps in the late 80's and 90's trucks usually gave out between 110 and 120,000 miles. I was driving one when the oil pump quit. A bottle of Lucas got me home with 5 lbs of oil pressure.
Love the chickens, that was a nice touch.. it's a shame the mice ruined the 454.... The truck came out great!. I used to have a 84 Sierra and loved it❤
TBI works reliably on a reliably built engine. Exactly what it was designed to do. If I’m building a balls out motor it will be carb. If I’m building a daily driver make it a tbi.
Why did you skip all the actual work dropping in the new engine, and dropping the suspension? Its like the second half of the episode was cut and you skipped 3 days of work and jumped to the end.
TBIs never dies. But the 1" of rubber hose from the fuel pump in the tank to the hard line bursts. Otherwise, they are simple, and not much to go wrong.
It’s cool to see Derek and Dave working together. They make a good team.
Ya they do. Pretty funny together
Dave has that sense of humor that I love!
these guys drive a truck with no oil pressure, now you can rebuild the engine
Dave Chappelle has really changed since I saw his last comedy show 😂
FYI Derek is the proper spelling brother.
Well I'll be dipped. A feller was just watching a guy talk about this truck. Nice
😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁✌✌
Exactly why they put this out lol. Capitalize on Derek's name, as usual
Same
@@krob5375 as a European, this is the only way for me to see these motor trend shows, so I'm not complaining
She turned out real nice too, fun seeing the origin story
Definitely need to see more of these two, not just the chickens, Derick and Dave!
I was thinking the same thing
Derek. Dave and Dulcich are my 3 favorites.
Keep the chicken as a regular.
Leave those chickens alone!
@@americasfavoritehoarder That little hen was pretty hot!!! I love red heads. LOL
Dave is awesome. He even has a super fun sense of humor. Hope to see a lot more of him here.
Derik and Dave need their own show
are you serious? Derek has his own youtube channel.....
Isn't that exactly what this is?
@@SonnyGTA No, this is Derick show, and Dave helped him with this.
Drek doesn't have time for that stuff. He's on the special olympics doobie jiggy sparky whirlly team and that keeps him busy
"2 D's in a pod". 🤣
So that's how that whole deal went - I love it! You two should be having a show together more often - you fellers are a natural together!
The 9-volt battery test on the injectors is genius.👍
lost art... today it's all $5000 scan tools!
I have old popular mechanic mags that have tools in them i have never seen before.
It is NOT ingenious, it is the standard way the EVERY mechanic uses to check out suspected bad injectors of this type!
I would have loved to see some more of the installation of everything. Too much gold is hitting the editors floor!
suddenly the finished truck pulled out and I'm like WTF??? I had to go back to make sure I didn't miss something. Nope. I didn't, they did.
Making this a 20 minute episode should be criminal.

It’s just not right!
Yeah, that’s the downside of network show constraints on MotorTrend. Too much time given to ads, too little on content.
@@Beandiptheredneck dereks got his own channel which is great, its vicegripgarage

Ah the dually from the latest vgg! Finally the story

I saw it in person at LS Fest and was so confused. Where in the world did this come from??

Thanks!
Always love it when Dave Chapelle is in the show. Man's an artist with power tools

Very amusing both so skilled
We need more of this pickup on UA-cam Motortrend!

There's something you don't see every day Chauncey. A chicken on a 454.
Why did you skip all the actual work dropping in the new engine, and dropping the suspension? Its like the second half of the episode was cut and you skipped 3 days of work and jumped to the end.
Because this is just a UA-cam page where they post teasers of the episodes they show in cable, Derrick explained that in his last video
