I think most of the artists who did the remakes took it seriously because when you unpack these Schoolhouse songs there’s real meat in there, and most self-respecting musicians would have recognized that.
This was the last song that lead singer Shannon Hoon ever recorded before he died. Even when singing a Schoolhouse Rock song, he gave it his all. R.I.P.

When I would revisit it as an adult I used to always think to myself I would love to be in a jam band and cover this song. The lyrics and melody are so beautiful. I just heard this for the first time today. I was searching for some of my favorite schoolhouse rock songs to play for my 2 year old daughter. She loved this so much too. So amazing. I was fortunate to see Blind Melon in Columbia Missouri when they opened for the Rolling Stones. I can't remember exactly what year it was, early nineties. I went and purchased their CD immediately and still have it. Good times.

I highly recco Shannon’s autobiography “Angel on one shoulder, devil on the other” by Greg Prato. I’ve heard Plant, Page, Mick all rave about Melon, my fave 90s band by far. Incredible band, RIP Shannon. It’s weird they’re known for No Rain because they were as talented a rock band as you’ll find. It was getting dark by the time Soup came out, still, killer album. Even Nico was impressive. Check out the book, Prato did his research.
The backup vocals were done by some guys in New Orleans that played in Metal Rose and Bag o' Donuts. Shannon nails this song, but they do give him a great vocal pad.

Blind Melon's music was very beautiful. Unfortunately, I didn't learn that until the 2000s when Shannon Hoon was long gone. Better late than never.
