Capitol Records execs thought this was more like a jam session song created to fill the album. They didn't realize the voices and bass line / drums are killing it.
I could not agree more, this song is extraordinary. Back in '92 when I first popped this CD in the CD player, I knew it was one of those songs I'd listen to for the rest of my life. Over my entire lifetime, I've only rarely had that experience. Heard this song first on Mtv and went right out and bought the CD so I could hear it over and over. Decades later, I now understand that many people like pop songs like No Rain because they don't have to think that deeply, and although they might bother to learn the lyrics so they can sing along, I don't think many people really take time to think that deeply about what the writers are saying. This is actually one of those songs where I try *not* to think about the lyrics because they're quite heartbreaking, and it just makes me cry thinking how heroin destroyed his life and how miserable he (and many others) were getting caught up in the ruthless greed of the psychopaths that ran the music industry for decades. All that aside, this song totally rips
I love no rain, but damn, it's such a shame that their other music didn't get near enough recognition. All I can say is that blind melon are one of my favourite bands of all time.
Layers and layers of wonderful guitars over one another. Funky and grungy and heavy spacey, folky, toe tapping, head bangin' , quiet, bluesy, abrasive. Them guitars!
Then, over the top, that high vocal scars of small town life. How simple it all seems and how much depth is truly underneath. All while the drums keeps it from chaos.
It sucks that radio stations only ever play No Rain by these guys. They're such a musically awesome band and are so much more than that song. Such an underrated band

March, 1993, some of my buddies and I went to LA for spring break from Michigan State University. I’ll never forget hearing this song on the radio driving down the 10 freeway to Santa Monica. We had no idea who this was but we were all blown away; this groovy, bluesy rock and roll led by a front man with such a distinctive voice...it was like nothing we were listening to at the time. Went to Tower Records later and found out that the band was called Blind Melon. Of course I bought the cassette and we listened to it the whole week, every song was (and still is) amazing; Tones of Home was our anthem for that trip, and we relished the fact that we were the ones who introduced these guys to the rest of our friends. Not long after about 20 of us got tix and bussed down to see them with GnR at the Palace of Auburn Hills. Again I was blown away by their live performance, and Shannon with such raw energy running around all over the stage in bare feet. Damn, I’ll never forget those days, every time I listen to Blind Melon it brings back some of my fondest memories of such a wonderful decade. R.I.P Shannon, hopefully we’ll meet up in another life...

Was in high school when these guys came out.....absolutely loved anything I could get my hands on by them to listen to....rip Shannon thank you for remarkable showmanship and vocals
I loved this whole album!! ❤
Live at Woodstock is faster and whew!!!! Take you on a trip. Not into this type music anymore but LOVE LOVE LOVE Blind Melon. Shannon's vocals are still amazing. Try those vocals yourselves and see....imagine an hour of this awesome frontman RIP, 😢

My favorite band of all time!!! So massively underrated.
This is one of my favorite Melon songs...... one of many many favorites.
I wonder what he would have written for us if he didn't lose his battle with addiction. F'kin sad
RIP brother..... you are missed!
Always loved the pyschedelic and jam band style and influence they had
Beautiful song; one of their best.
I agree. I think this and "Galaxy" from their second album are my favorites.
