I was fortunate enough to see these guys in 1993 and then a month before Shannon passed away. It's 2018 and I'm still listening to them. These guys are one of the most underrated bands of that era.
God bless yer ass! I wanted to marry shannon just based on vocals
Galaxie
Thank you! When people don't know Blind Melon or only say yeah those guys that played No Rain and had no other hits... I want to punch them in the teeth.... These guys were the best of the best. And young as heck. Imagine what they would be doing today. So unfair.
Could have been the best band of all time. We’ll never know.
facts
The most underrated band of the 90s. Blind Melon was one of a kind.
They really were So AMAZING!!
Yes I wish Shannon Hoon was with us stil
They were a terrific band but they are too similar to Janes Addiction to call them one of a kind.
@@stardogMLB not the same at all.
@@stardogMLB I think they were one of a kind.
"I use to think this was the land of milk and honey, come to find out it's all hate and money" sang 30 years ago. Still a true statement today.
It's a canopy of greed
I grew to this song. Have always loved these guys.
That lyric line just hit me in the face...and I've always known this song.
@@chrissullivan4655 the ,greed, if u control the worker, know his weakness they can make it so he or she will never know what hit them, even ruin his family till they achieve goal
Also 30 years before this great tune.
Not today
I was born in 68 and now at 54yrs old I can say that the 90's were the best decade I've experienced. Great music that pushed the limits and artists who could truly sing and play instruments from the soul.
Humanity peaked in the 90's, technology has taken over already. We are just planting the seeds
Absolutely... It was the pinnacle of music in my opinion.
50s good. 60s better. 70s awesome. 80s sucked ..sorry if that offended anyone. 90s.. set the standard. Untouchable. 2000s bayc to good....now.? Ehhhhh. Dont really feel much of it at all. If any.
Though older bands are making music again. So maybe it'll jump start a rebirth of greatness again.
Back*
Don't get me wrong there are great bands making rock music still. Most definitely. But the rest...... Uggghhh.
?????
RIP Shannon Hoon (September 26, 1967 - October 21, 1995), aged 28
You will always be remembered as a legend.
I love no rain, but damn, it's such a shame that their other music didn't get near enough recognition. All I can say is that blind melon are one of my favourite bands of all time.
It is sad that most people only have heard No Rain and never got to hear the rest of their stuff. No Rain is good, but the other stuff is amazing!
Same here. Blind Melon was my absolute favorite growing up
@@en5788 Very true! Soup was a great record, I still play "Galaxy" all the time. Such a classic band.
@@en5788 No Rain sucks compared to their other stuff. I got my dad to thank for getting me into this band. Love them, RIP Shannon!
It's your favorite grunge band's favorite band, they were still really popular. I mean he hung out with Layne Staley until he died.
2020, still loving this. R.I.P. music lives forever.
Such a beautiful voice..I love this Album
Here too =D
I love and miss this too! 90’s kicked ass ❤️❤️❤️
Same. 🖤💜
Still get the bumps of grese💜✌🏼💜
I'm in the very front row of the crowd in this video. They filmed that part in a warehouse in downtown Los Angeles. They played a whole set but did Tones of Home about 8 times for the video. I am tall and was so close to Shannon that he reached down to me with the microphone and i sang into it. 😎
That was a blast.
that must have been quite a time! and u have a video reminder even! how awesome is that? a lucky s.o.b. are thee! ;-)
Cool story!!
warehouse, not wherehouse.
Lucky!
Lucky!
Layers and layers of wonderful guitars over one another. Funky and grungy and heavy spacey, folky, toe tapping, head bangin' , quiet, bluesy, abrasive. Them guitars!
well said
Don't forget the drumming. Them drums!
Absolutely
Then, over the top, that high vocal scars of small town life. How simple it all seems and how much depth is truly underneath. All while the drums keeps it from chaos.
you are so right, guitar job is great.
It sucks that radio stations only ever play No Rain by these guys. They're such a musically awesome band and are so much more than that song. Such an underrated band
I was 16 when he died, but way too young to realize how amazing and talented Shannon Hoon was
I just sort of discovered Blind Melon for real. Heard No Rain ages ago. But just heard Change for the first time this week. Incredible song. Now the rest of their music is opening up to me for the first time. It's a beautiful thing.
Listen to “Soul One” you’re welcome
Everything they did was a masterpiece, you discovered a great one of kind talented band
Shannon’s voice is so unmistakable.
Blind Melon is still my favorite band to this day. Thanks for the inspiration
. Rest In Peace Shannon
Oh absolutley
the same here
CBC Canada played No Rain today by Blind Melon. Never heard of these amazing guys. They totally slipped under the radar. Best band I've heard since I was a kid in the 70s
You are now " blessed " withe the sounds of an amazing band. Peace
Yep
They were a great band.....
Anybody listening in 2024?
Yes and prob will be in 2050!
@@jane_doh 88'
Yup I would consider them a crossover mainstream jam band. Mixing genre's flawlessly
Still in my top 3 of bands. I pretty much listen to them daily
This shit is timeless. Still feel the same explosion inside my whole body as the one I felt when I was fifteen years old. Still same angsty monster deep down inside
I can honestly say this may be the most under appreciated band I know of. These young kids were geniuses, absolute peak musical talent.
man what could have been? the 90s really were the last great time to be coming of age
Great, great song. Somehow bridges 70's style jam bands with modern rock, a slight grunge edge and Shannon sounds a little like the hippie Perry Farrell! What a great band!
Well said
In the 90's i really love this band ,Shannon has one of the most beautiful voice i 've ever heard!
Dan The Man which is?
@Dan The Man What is it?
Everything is beautiful about Shannon
@@missydeweese2518 right?! My God he was like one of the most beautiful creatures ever created. He was the 8th Wonder of the world...
52 yrs old now and this is still one of the greatest albums of my life time. It came out during a very bad period in my life. Addiction and divorce a life of disappointment. I could put this album on fire up a Debbie an all was good . Left this album on repeat
A Debbie😂
I'm 60 and I agree. When I was a baby my dad called me Melon Head. Still a Melon Head! When I die my kids know to play Galaxie for me.
I think it's closer to 30 years old. It was the 90s.
@@avalonisland love that song
Boom!
great band... Eric, Have you ever been on my channel, The Sanity Machine?
Lots of interesting videos. Cheers! :))
Shannon Hoon rocked it hard.
He did. Like so many of his era he left way too early. He left us some great records, I particularly love their second album Soup.
I only just starting to fall in love with them now. Sad, sad . What a massive presence he was!
Better late then never, Shannon also sings on GNR dont cry video as well if you didn't know
That's really cool, you've got good taste. Soup is also an amazing record, didn't get as much attention but had real rockers, especially the song "Galaxy".
watch "letters from a porcupine" great documentary about the band. That is the tool I used to get all my friends into the band
hell yeah who is listening in 2019? shannon has a brilliant voice loving it
Shema Culz “keep on dreamin’ boy cause when you quit dreamin’ it’s time to die” has been my quote since 15 years old rip Shannon hoon, brilliant guy ⭐️
... had a brilliant voice... HAD...
I have loved and will always love blind melon ever since first hearing it. RIP shannon
@@kinderwhore9662 His voice will live forever, so has is appropriate
Check out Blind Melons new music too! Travis Warren is legit as the lead singer and they are 🔥 live! Blind Melon has been my favorite band since 1998 and I’m so glad they are still producing new music!
It's criminal that the only song ever played on the radio by them is No Rain and the other incredible tracks like these get overlooked!!
I go through cycles in my Life. Where I get into stuff. And then I put it away in a Pantheon of all the things I cherish in Life. That's what's going on with me right now with this Masterpiece of an Album. Shannon Hoon had pipes like no one else. He Sung beautifully. GOD BLESS YOU SHANNON, a big hurray to this amazing Band , BLIND MELON,Thx u for the Memories.
Described bi polar
I used to listen to blind melon on the way to soccer games growing up, my dad was the coach and these guys put us in a good mood everytime. Listening to their music as an adult my life is starting to make sense 😂 shannon had a huge impact on my childhood and so many lives. My 2 month old now falls asleep to soup every nap time, takes only a few minutes and he's so peaceful.
Blind Melon is the Keylor Navas of the music....the most underrated band and goal keeper ever 😡
tones of home, change, paper scratcher, no rain, sleepyhouse. god bless shannon and the band for bringing this song into the world.
What about their best ever?!? Galaxie!! 😊😍😍😍
my fave - I Wonder
Who else wonders what Shannon and the guys could have done if only. Glad I got to see them play back in the day. 💕🙏💕
Amen friend! ✌️👍🏽
One of the greatest voices of the 90's cut short. As unique as Chris Cornell. So underrated. Don't Cry by G'N'R was a duet with Axl and Shannon (watch the video he's in every rooftop shot) and if you listen close, he hits all the highest notes of the chorus. Gone to soon. RIP
Like many, this band came up on my radar because of 'No Rain' when it came out. I bought the album and was instantly hooked. I played that cd front to back hundreds of times - then of course bought 'Soup' and 'Nico' & 'Live at the Metro'. I remember precicely where I was when I heard that Shannon died. I can't describe the way this band touches my heart. No other music impacts me quite the way theirs does. A great band - playing honest music - at just the right time in your life will do that. Blind Melon is that band to me. Sending love their way.
one of the coolest songs i have ever heard. great bass, guitar, drums.
My heart aches not knowing the music they didnt make. We miss you.
25 years gone today. Rest well, Shannon.
I really loved the '60s hippie revival we seemed to have in music in the early '90s. Bands like Blind Melon and Blues Traveler. I wasn't alive for the first hippie music movement, but I feel blessed I got to see a little piece of it re-emerge. Just wish it would've lasted longer.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I think the lyrics are so deep, the music is icing on the cake!!
Music lives forever
I had such high hopes for this band when it came out; it was like Janes’s Addiction and Grandfunk Railroad had a baby.
Just scrolling through the comments to see if anyone else heard a little Jane's Addiction in this track...
@@monstabishi Jane's addiction was 1 of shannon's favorite bands , love from Indiana where he is from *☆♡
@@sarahboller5912 It's a nice feeling when you feel like you recognise a band's musical influence. Very satisfying to see that recognition is shared and confirmed. Funny how music can connect people on opposite sides of the world....😊
@@monstabishi I thought the same too, Jane's Addiction sounds! Been caught stealing, to be precise.
I definitely hear the Janet’s Addiction influence on this one. My favorite Blind Melon track.
Visiting the family isn't the same without listening to this song on the way. Wish me luck 🤞
some of the finest musicians of that era
This band deserved so much more love !
Nobody here really understands me either except this kick ass music that never grows old, peace be with us all, rock n roll forever
You're not alone!!!
The 90s were just special
The groove is insane
2019 and still miss Shannon. This man meant more to me than kurt cobain ever did
Migraine hell yes
Same here brother
shannon hoon loved kurt Cobain
I loved both, 2 of my 3 favorite bands growing up. The other being Guns N Roses
If Cobain hadn't killed himself no one would know Nirvana. They just hit at the right time. Or were thrust forward or whatever.
I was 16 in the early 90s....we had some of the best music since the 70s..great band:)
My jam! Voice of an angel! Excellent band ! Under rated! 💯💯💯❤my opinion

Blind Melon thats all I can say. Soundtrack of my life. So Soul. I study this everyday. Its time for another Blind Melon. This shit is REAL love .
I was in high school when I first heard this song, now 2023 with grown up kids, still playing and enjoying it. I wish Shannon have lived longer but I think his voice lives on!
My word! This is SO friggin' great! Thanks for posting! RIP Shannon.... What an amazing bad.
A candle that burns twice as bright burns half as long. and you just know that Shannon is rocking out with all of the other great ones we lost to soon in Heaven.
Amazing music! Wish there was more fusion music like this Funk, Jazz, Rock. Makes every molecule want to stand up and dance in different directions. RIP Shannon Hoon
Soooooo damn goood. I'm in my late 30's and a classic rock 60/70's junky, and I do it on vinyl. This band is one of only a handful that I'm missing in my collection. They are awesome. Love it all.
March, 1993, some of my buddies and I went to LA for spring break from Michigan State University. I’ll never forget hearing this song on the radio driving down the 10 freeway to Santa Monica. We had no idea who this was but we were all blown away; this groovy, bluesy rock and roll led by a front man with such a distinctive voice...it was like nothing we were listening to at the time. Went to Tower Records later and found out that the band was called Blind Melon. Of course I bought the cassette and we listened to it the whole week, every song was (and still is) amazing; Tones of Home was our anthem for that trip, and we relished the fact that we were the ones who introduced these guys to the rest of our friends. Not long after about 20 of us got tix and bussed down to see them with GnR at the Palace of Auburn Hills. Again I was blown away by their live performance, and Shannon with such raw energy running around all over the stage in bare feet. Damn, I’ll never forget those days, every time I listen to Blind Melon it brings back some of my fondest memories of such a wonderful decade. R.I.P Shannon, hopefully we’ll meet up in another life...
saw them live with guns and roses at the dean smith center chapel hill nc, in 92 and i was blown away. one of the best bands ive ever seen live. the way they sounded in that place was unbeliveable. ran out the next day and bought the record
This song has been in my head since the nineties.
🐝. This is definitely a desert island album. 🐝.
Love. 🐦⬛.

My favorite band of all time!!! So massively underrated.
Yeah, I agree. I jammed this shit in high-school. I'm still listening. Timeless melody. Music you can let go and feel free. RIP, where ever you are Shannon.
Was in high school when these guys came out.....absolutely loved anything I could get my hands on by them to listen to....rip Shannon thank you for remarkable showmanship and vocals
I can't believe you don't have more comments. It takes a musician to really understand what we just listened to. The song is incredible
2:17 The drummer is really playing, "Out Of The Box", like Keith Moon but with more precision and technique. If You really concentrate on the drums, You realize how much more He's doing than keeping a beat. Its the phrasing of his drumming which is unique. A true master, and my favorite song of the whole era.
71 n still love this song n band
Beautiful man n spirit. Gone but never forgotten Shannon
Underrated is just the word. Beautiful band!
This has a Jane's Addiction sound to it. Love it.
You mean Janes Addiction has this sound
That band and voice!! No words for the talent and vibe
It’s always surprising to me, how certain songs make noise while others don’t. This track is so much more superior to No Rain, and yet it was the latter that soared up the charts.
Bee girl. How stupid is that. I remember playing their 2 cds for friends in high school and they all were shocked. They thought they were a hippy nostalgia band
Maybe it's the message behind No Rain. It's more palatable, I guess. But I agree.
It was the video for no rain that made it so big, I think. I never seen this one on the television, but they played no rain a lot.
I love this album, but No Rain is not in my Top 5. I love almost all the songs in the 1st album, Blind Melon is still my favorite band till today. I´m watching all the videos again, but many of them didn´t became famous enough to have a video. My favortie song is "Time".
@@bigbopper1921 I think that's the vibe they were going for.

Completamente cierto 😬👏
Sim! Estou aqui revendo todos os vídeos que eles lançaram e amo as músicas até hoje!
Always makes me smile!
Saw Blind Melon open for The Rolling Stones back in 1994 in Ames, Iowa at Cyclone Stadium, and they pulled this bad ass tune off fantastically! Lots of energy out of the late Mr. Shannon Hoon and band.
What a great band!
Hello from Scotland 🏴 How are you doing today? I hope it's been a nice day? HAPPY NEW YEAR WISHES 🎉🥳💖
Boom!

Damn drumming on this one is beyond awesomeness
+Wiencon the drummer was super skilled - one of the best out there
All guitars, drums, Shannon's vocals are fucking great! This is better than No Rain!
Rogers, Christopher, Brad, Shannon ALL freaking great. I loved Christopher's acoustics and mandolin playing.
Tammy Sigmon Yep whole band was incredible, the two albums with Shannon are some of my all time favourites. Criminally underrated group
+Wiencon I agree 100%. It's hard to say, but Axl Rose knew how talented this band was. He asked Shannon to be in the Don't Cry video and it's not because they were both from LaFayette Indiana. Axl went to school with Shannon's sister and she reached out to him. He gave a listen and asked Shannon to sing with him instead of background vocals.
Timeless....never gets old....and oh the memories it brings back....❤❤
I'm old and this is something that makes me smile, now go chase your face.

Amazing legendary band
It’s so beautiful to natural to be who you are, he was definitely a new hippie. He looks like tha dudes did when I grew up in tha 70s. Sure wish that look would come back coz it sure looks good. !!!!
What do you think they would say
If I stood up, and I walked away?
Nobody here really understands me
And so I wave goodbye, I'm fine
I'm fine
[Chorus]
Tones of home
Said, you don't like the way I'm living (You don't like me)
Tones of home, tones of home
(And so I wave) goodbye
I'm flyin'
And I'm flyin' home
Home, home, home
[Verse 2]
And I always thought this would be
See, the land of milk and honey
Oh, but I come to find out that it's all hate and money
And there's a canopy of greed holdin' me down
[Chorus]
[Bridge]
See, I'm so high to you, but don't fade away, oh yeah
I said, you're on your own
Your mom and daddy said
That you sister said
And you brother's saying (what'd your brother say?)
Is saying everybody (everybody)
Is saying everybody
Is saying I-I-I-I gotta go!
[Solo]
[Verse 3]
All my friends patronize me
They say "Yo, hey, boy! Have you found what you're looking for?"
It seems they don't really know me
'Cause it's here
An' it's what they can't see
[Chorus]
