  • In this review, we're throwing it back to a shoe we should have reviewed a long time ago BUT, it's here now! The Hoka Torrent! I know some of you have already placed your feet in these, so what are YOUR thoughts after running in it?
    Being in running specialty, our insight on the products are a little different because not only do we RUN in the shoes, we also SELL these shoes to our customers. We thoroughly fit people for shoes. So instead of having one person's feedback it's kind of like speaking for a community of people who were all interested in the same shoe. Good and bad feedback, we tell it all!
    What shoe should we do next?
    SHOP HERE! Thanks for checking out our reviews - if you like what you see, please don't hesitate to check out www.ultrarunningcompany.com as well. We're an actual brick & mortar store in Charlotte, NC, and appreciate your support! We're proud to carry the Topo Phantom and you can purchase them here: bit.ly/URCPhantom. Every little bit helps! :)

    Love this shoe, I managed to get 320 miles out of it before the upper started to develop some holes and rips, the outsole and cushion still feel great though!
    Could you guys please review some Inov8 shoes, I know they're less popular in the USA than here in the UK but there's a lack of good quality videos about them!

    I prefer the Torrent over the Speedgoat. More breathable, wider toebox and gusseted tongue.

    I love my Torrents! Work great on northern Vermont trails. Fast! I always wonder what a small forefoot rock plate would be like. That and a pull loop on the heel would be nice.
    Great review!

      We've actually run in them on the Long Trail (around Camel's Hump) and agree completely! Interesting possible trade-off on weight vs. protection of a rocky-plate...

    I really like the Torrent. It is versatile, in that it does very well on moderately technical off road work, as well as being a great daily road trainer in my rotation. The outsole has held up crazy well (178 miles, barely can tell). The shoe is comfortable and has a certain "pop" in the impact that is not overly stiff. I will definitely be buying more.

    Love my Torrents ... I feel safe & planted on steep & technical downhills. Very comfortable. These shoes were awesome straight out of the box.

    Well, I just got this shoe even though the Torrent 2 is out. I shop clearance. I live in L.A. County so wet conditions are not a problem, it is dry heat here. I only do occasional trail running, I mostly run on roads, so this is a great shoe for me for my occasional trail excursions. I find and occasional trail run a compliment to my road work.

    Great review, matches my experience with the Torrent. I’m on my second pair, my first pair ripped along the side at 340 miles like you mentioned. At this point I’d love for them to keep 90% of the shoe and tweak the upper a bit to prevent that tearing. Great shoe.

    I understand from others that have used it (therefore hearsay) that the Torrent works well as a backpacking shoe too.

    I love this shoe - its my trail training shoe of choice. Light and really nice on all sort of terrain .. the only thing it could use is a rock plate in the forefoot - but I will do without that if it means keeping the weight where it is.

      We thought the same thing about weight vs. protection. Not sure we'd make that tradeoff... :)

    YES 😁Just bought this shoes in the exclusive Xterra camo colour theme, beautiful I must add. I’m a long time Clifton 3, Napali and Challenger ATR 3 shoe “user” I am addicted too the Hoka soft underfoot cushioned and I can’t use other brands anymore, except some of the Altra models.
    I was worried that the ride/cushioned would be too hard from what I read........but it’s a good feeling underfoot, firm, but NOT to firm. The extra room in the forefoot and toe area Are just so nice. I’m am so happy with this buy even if I haven’t long term used them yet, I’m sure from my test runs that they are just on the spot for winter-trail-running in Denmark. This shoes is slightly bigger than the other Hoka shoes I own. I use at US size 11 in my ATR3 but I could have gone a half size down in the Torrent.

    The shoe is amazing in all the aspects. The upper is brethable and fits perfecte, the midsole is really soft but stable in technical zones (which is very important for me) and the outsole has a quite good grip. The worst part of this shoe, in my opinion, is the durability of the outsole, I bought the shoes and they only last 100 miles. I hope hoka improve it and change the compound.

    Just got a pair UK 37.50. Kerching. Since I couldn't get any ATRs on offer and I like an offer... Guess I'll be hitting the trails more over winter 😁

    Unfortunately, these were the first and only shoes from hoka i had to return. They just felt like blocks on my feet. The cushion was FANTASTIC, but the fit was so weird for me.

    Great review as always. Would you say this shoe is similar to Topo Terraventure in feel?

    The Torrent looks great, but that offset Hoka logo on the toe really... irks me. No such irk from Nathan's hair though. No irk at all.

      Nah. We like to think of that as the "awkward teenage" stage of hair growth... kind of like the awkward, offset bird logo?

    I am torn between the Hoka Clifton 6 and the Hoka Bondi 6 as a "road" marathon training shoe. Not for the race itself, but for training and working up to the mileage needed to run a marathon. Any advice on this decision?

    • @gosekinz
      @gosekinz 5 років тому +1

      depends how much weight you want to carry or work on .. I like to use a heavier shoe for long slow runs - so Bondi .. but if you want to go a little quicker then the Clifton would be an awesome option. If you want to go faster again and have a normal foot then maybe the Rincon ( cheaper option than both its older brothers )

    • @TheUltraRunningCompany
      @TheUltraRunningCompany  4 роки тому +1

      We agree with gosekinz, but will point out that "normal" for the Rincon may err on the side of narrow...and it definitely won't last as long as the Clifton or Bondi. Enjoy!

    Could you do the kinvara 10?

    • @TheUltraRunningCompany
      @TheUltraRunningCompany  4 роки тому

      Hi Lee. Wow! We can't believe we missed this...what an oversight. At this point, unfortunately, we'll probably just wait for the Kinvara 11, due out in February. I know that isn't really helpful, and if we can squeeze in the 10 we definitely will. Sorry about that!
